January 14, 20251 yr My MSFS2024 simrig is in a Corsair 7000D Airflow case with the side panel off, and a fan blowing onto the gpu. Do I need to do that? No. Do I want to do that? Yes, because it drops my gpu temps by about 5-10C in a typical sim session. Could I find a more elegant solution? Yes, if I really wanted to spend the time, I could install another fan inside the case, blowing across the gpu....but I don't really care, no one sees my case and it's under a table anyway. I'd rather be flying. I have another machine with a 3080ti in it and...as most 3080ti's do, it runs quite hot. Your 3080, well, imagine if you had a ti version. Heh. I want my 4090 to last a while, because of the gpu prices. Anything I can do to prolong its life, I'll do it. The suggestion about limiting frame rate is a good one. Limiting frame rate is the most direct correlation to heat production that I know of with a gpu. Outside of ensuring it's getting good cooling. Limiting framerate is even more effective than undervolting or underclocking a gpu, at least in my experience. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

FPS unlocked => GPU 99%, locked around 70%. Edited January 14, 20251 yr by Cpt_Piett 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5
January 14, 20251 yr Any aussies? Im.looking to buy a 4090 For 2500$ AU Is that worth it? Its. A suprim x msi Or do they overheat?

Igor's lab has identified and described the problem and solutions already back in 2018: https://www.igorslab.de/en/the-battle-of-graphics-card-against-power-supply-power-consumption-and-peak-loads-demystified/ https://www.igorslab.de/en/when-the-power-supply-suddenly-shuts-off-load-peaks-from-graphics-card-and-cpu-measured-and-evaluated-together-basics-practice/ You are seriously trying to claim MSFS2024 has "run for 4 years...". I'm not sure you understand the OP is talking about MSFS2024 specifically. He even stated MSFS2020 gives him no problems like this.

He even stated MSFS2020 gives him no problems like this. I am not sure you read/understand my detailed posts where I explained the difference MSFS 2024/2020 as far as increased GPU load and with it power supply crashes due to GPU load spikes are concerned. I obviously included MSFS 2020 + MSFS 2024 period (2 +2 = 4) in which I never had a single pc crash with either simulator after I upgraded my power supply from 600 to 1.000 watt. if you are interested and read my posts carefully: I explained very detailed why MSFS 2024 is a whole different "game" as far as GPU loads and hence power requirements go. I think he has understood the issue now, i.e. why the same power supply that works with MSFS 2020 now may shut off with MSFS 2024. what he calls "terrible" software is actually most advanced software in any flight simulator, called GPU programming. should you be really interested: https://developers.redhat.com/articles/2024/08/07/what-gpu-programming https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect Edited January 14, 20251 yr by turbomax AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler. 60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking. very nice.

January 19, 20251 yr Thanks Turbomax ! This is exactly what I am experiencing with my 7830X3D so tomorrow I'm off to get a hefty PSU. I couldn't figure it out. Thought it might be a thermal protection.
January 19, 20251 yr thanks Leftseat, glad if I could help. if you are getting a new PSU I would make sure not only to get at least 1.000 Watt, but also the latest standard: ATX 3.1 PSU [PCIe 5.1 Compliant with 12V-2×6 Connector] https://graphicscardhub.com/atx-3-1-psu-list/ Edited January 19, 20251 yr by turbomax AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler. 60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking. very nice.
January 20, 20251 yr Another option to reduce fan noise is to use MSI Afterburner to limit either power or temperature to get a satisfactory outcome. You can also save it to a profile and set up a hot key to quickly switch between the two profiles as you please. 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
