Question TAA and DLSS FG 572.16

Featured Replies

I remember when 2020 first came out. There was no DLSS. Everybody used TAA. '

I had a 2600 super and 3600X cpu. I had to use low settings but it worked OK. But only with low settings.

At that time people here were saying that high 20s fps was ok because cinema movies were made at 24 frames per second.

Do you have vlock on in the sim? I am seeing no tears.

Honestly, I don't think TAA isn't really worth it anymore. It's way too demanding, and the image quality isn't really all that great. Using DLSS swapper, Nvidia Inspector with the correct profile (here) is the easy way to get it to work.

If you enjoy blurry glass panels, sure. I tired DLSS4 setting DLSS-DLAA and still had blurry glass panels on Fenix and PMDG. Still not good enough, back to TAA. Shame because Asobo is not talented enough to fix this issue apparently.

Also trees on cloudy sky backgrounds produce a lot of distracting golden sparkles, and ghosting / trails are more prominent when using FG. People seldom mention these issues, maybe blinded by hype or in denial, just worshipping the "new revolutionary technology".

Once again FS is the only game on the market that is not improved by the new tech. The first DLSS implementation could not exclude glass screens and was affected by heavy blurring and ghosting, now there are other problems. And what about the water artifacts? Have you tried to fly at 500-1000 ft above water with DLSS enabled?

yeah, those things do exist and can be distracting at times....but honestly, if i want 1:1, i'll just  go outside lol. I do marvel at this tech, considering not even 10 years ago, I couldn't turn shadows on in P3D or FSX because it was too demanding. Now there are ray traced shadows, extremely high fidelity lighting and materials. I can deal with minor annoyances. They should still be worked on though.

I agree with you on that, the point I am making is that there seems to be little effort when it comes to put this game on par with other AAA titles.

DX12 stayed in beta until the end of 2024 (FS2024 release), proper multithreading came at the same time, DLSS implementation is still poor (look at Cyberpunk2077), FSR3.1 is still missing, VR support is still poor, ATC and AI traffic are so ridiculously bugged that the game is more realistic if you disable them. And I could go on...

That's probably because of the lack of competitors but it's disappointing nevertheless.

I, at least, am disappointed. When FS2024 was announced I thought (was induced to think) that it would take it from the point MSFS had reached and would be a net 360° improvement.

Instead, it's a jumble of bugs and regressions, it makes 46 fps avg on a 5080 at 1440p and we are still tinkering with DLL files, registry tweaks with nVidia inspector and other voodoo.

I'm continuing to try DLSS4, and I limit, just as I do with TAA, FPS to 30, both in sim and now in BATC too.

It does show ghosting and those electronic instrument effects that aren't nice, although they do look a bit better than before ( but still the speed and altitude tapes have the rolling numbers too fuzzy...).

In external views if I move around the aircraft, specially during night, ghosting is rather evident. But I'm on a 3060Ti.

Other than that I've been able to increase some of my scenery settings with no impact in my rather stable 30 FPS, and at the same time I do find now that I've also dropped the FPS in BATC too, the GPU and CPU Temps are lower in the average than with TAA, so less stress on the system and less power consumption !!!

This is certainly true using DLSS4 with both K and C presets.  That being said it's a bit better than pre DLSS4.  Right now with this modest descent rate I have no problems seeing the vertical speed tape.  And to me EVERYTHING else is so fabulous now it's not a big deal to cope with the ghosting that remains.  I truly have the best total visuals and performance that I've had since 2020 launched.
