Did you point me to a wrong thread? In any case, if you look at the aircraft.cfg text I provided in my previous message I am in 2020 configuring my own number by using that field.  The numbers I am attempting to replace are not painted on the livery.  They are configured in ATC_ID.  

Example:
atc_id = "N976UD" ; tail number

What do you have in the identification tail number inside the sim? If I leave it blank it still shows the random white registration on top of the painted one.

Something has definitely changed with the latest beta update. Unfortunately, it has gotten worse again for the Blacksquare Dukes. I use Crispy136's method from this thread to get rid of the custom tail numbers and the white rectangles over the fuselage appearing at the same time. It worked perfectly fine before but now when I load one of these liveries, it's a 50/50 chance that the white or black rectangles will appear or not. Restarting the sim then seems to fix it again....

My example actually shows a custom registration selected in the sim... there was no painted registration in this case.

Well, I quit. Tried everything but nothing works. Going to wait for them to fix it in SU2.

I feel your pain! Seriously.

I expect this is their attempt to establish an ATC feature that is still so lacking.  ATC is about control of traffic, not liveries!  

Can they please begin to involve aviation persons in their teams instead of only gaming technicians?

But but but they need to improve the walking speed before they concentrate on actual bugs(!), begs the question what else are they wasting their time on whilst not fixing the obvious issues? 

But hey, this is Asobo, reg plates working just fine in 2020 but nah completely broken in 2024, standard for them.

So Bert, are these the steps working for you?

• Livery must not have a painted number
• Edit the lines per above in the liveries aircraft.cfg file
• Specify a reg/tail number in MSFS 2024
• Close and restart MSFS2024

Sorry, I really messed up this thread... these entries are for my RV14 C-BERT livery with a painted number. This livery specifies a "panel.noregistration" file which comes with the RV14.

For the 152 shown above, which does not have a painted number, I simply specified the reg in MSFS 2024, and it worked.  No edits whatsoever.

I still fail.  I am successful in getting my custom number to lodge in the MSFS 224 identification setting for the time being. But that only If I do not try to fly and then exit the sim. When I restart MSFS 2024, do not yet start a flight, and check, my custom number is still configured.  But it changes to a random number again when I start a flight.  Then checking that MS2024
in-sim Livery→Configure→ Identification setting shows it back to a random number as well.

That is a clear testament about the overall state of MSFS 2024.  It is either a tiger missing some of its stripes or a leopard missing some of its spots.

Or maybe a dose of each.

That is strange.. in my case, it is very persistent and stays with me across different flights and airplanes.
