some more regression in 2024 and the WU19

Featured Replies

Continuing to explore WU19 in both 2020 and 2024. MAsobo seem to be continuing to be rather careless with their coding. I suspect the problem is the switch of suppliers to handle the AI and PG masking, or whatever the correct terminology should be. I believe they no longer use Blackshark? Anyway, the underlying PG in 2024 is both a whole lot better and a whole lot worse than in 2020.

I've posted some comparison shots here - https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/666803-more-2024-regression-pix-for-other-forum-post/

It's so galling to keep hitting these appalling examples of ugliness in 2024, which is otherwise streets ahead visually (in my eyes, anyway)

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

The problem is the lack of competition, which allows them to get away with anything.

Any other AAA game in the current status of FS2024 would be absolutely destroyed by professional and users' reviews.

Several other AAA titles have released like this though...I guess people love software that needs constant updates.  That's how the world is these days.

Really? What are all those "my sim is better than your sim" arguments about on AVSIM if there is no competition?

MSFS 2024 has been destroyed by the reviews that matter. The reviews on YT and Steam. They have absolutely no true quality control on this project. Shockingly obvious things are broken, and the only way you can miss these type of issues is if you do not even bother to look. I have high hopes for 24, but man is it going to be a rerun of 2020, which sucks. By the time they fix 24 they will announce 28.

The competition is 10 years back in terms of graphics, it's hard to stick with it in 2025.

I think you are wrong, for me the other simulator with orthos of Here Maps, global forest 2 and simheaven is much better than 2024, because the orthos of Bing in general are very bad in many areas of the world, especially much abrupt change of color, the trees even I having spent money with Bijan are still unreal and are much worse placed than global forest 2 and the PG has too many errors to be usable, without destroying the immersion.

In my country they say that for tastes colors, but I use 2024, x-Plane and I don't see that graphical superiority anywhere, except for those who try to convince themselves all the time.

Each simulator has its strong points, to close to only one seems to me something stupid because in the end what makes the difference are the addons and there are very good addons in almost all platforms.

You could argue it's largest competition is it's predecessor which is certainly not 10 years behind...

I have a lot of games/sims that do not suffer from this phenomenon.

I can mostly agree with that.  If the time is spent with downloading Ortho and the other products you mention, it is indeed a stunning simulator.  I used it exclusively for six months and enjoyed it immensely.  However I have been using 2024 since release - not having many of the gripes some have.  The ease of use plus extent of addons has seen me use 2024 exclusively.

What???

Both YouTube and Steam are the very last places I would even bother to go to find a believable review!

The troops here at Avsim take developers to task as well as anyone without the need for YouTube garbage or Steam.

The trees and the textures... maybe, with hundreds of GB of orthophotos and addons downloaded in your SSD.

But what about the cities? How does New York or Rome look on XPlane? You can't beat PG cities.

I guess it depends on what you use the sim for, but I do the same things in 2024 that I did in 2020 and 2024 does it just as well and better, has since a few days after release when the server issues were resolved, in North America at least

I think this is indicative of a much bigger problem happening among us. Unfortunately,it seems like people are becoming less "savvy". In my workplace the goal is to do as little work possible for the highest compensation. When I look at the gaming industry it seems like that attitude is quite prevalent. Im going to give 24 another spin in Brazil this weekend. Im praying im not disappointed.
