FC Scenery v Orbx

FC needs a proper installer and a proper business's  “front office”

Simmers falls into 2 categories before and after “Families”like 20 ish and after 50 it’s a time consuming (and expensive)hobby

And the Elder’s one don’t have the patience to fiddle with Sim various issues

On a more practical  scale P3D doesn’t require the latest and greatest ($$$$) hardware and FC gives you the (new) Ortho/Elevation/and land classes in one (unlike some the competition)

And still has a decent (dare I say better)amount of modules

Maybe a new navigation database is needed but I think someone can correct me on this

P3D v5 was ahead of his time (dx12) and developers shrugged and went for greener pastures using the older dx11 and a FSX code which led to …ta-da! Drums roll (dx 12 msfs2024)!
I respect MSFS Jorg Neumann for his vision and dedication 2020 is a legendary Sim and I hope for the best in 2024

But in the meantime P3D still has legs

Just bought the entire world setup from FC and looking for a 18 TB for storage when it goes on sale

Hope FC keeps at it, because it can rival msfs …and perhaps revive p3d

Let’s s hope so

Thanks, you've just answered the question I was searching for. I too have just bought the global package and was curious about the total software size to be stored. 18 TB?? wow, that's a lot of data!

I just tried the free switzerland package and it unfortunately features the same light green look like all other sat-scenery product for my country. I have Switzerland Professional and MegaSceneryEarth Switzerland 2, all having the same bad light green coloring. Since I live here I can't stand it and don't use any of these products. Somehow all producers of sat scenery seem to have the same source of imagery.

I think other countries look great from what I've seen so far.

I also have the same scenery from FCSENERY. I noticed the same thing, but find those sort of light or pastel green in wooded areas elsewhere. My thinking was that it had to do with my monitor color settings. Evidently not.

I wonder if the foliage color has to do with the time of year the satellite image was made. Trouble with photo real is lack of seasons.

It’s more like 12 TB right now with Russia missing

18 is the size I’m looking for the HD factored in free space for the HD to breathe a bit

I have all kinds of scenery.  I have Orbx, MegasceneryEarth + Nuvecta autogen, FC Scenery, RealWorldScenery, Aerosoft and FSDG scenery and so many others, to many to mention.  I also have plenty of airports and cityscape scenery too.  But I love all my scenery and they all have their advantages and disadvantages but I enjoy all of it.

I like being able to change my scenery to suite my particular mood.  Sometimes I really want to fly over my Orbx landclass, and other times I prefer to fly over nice photoscenery (as long as there is autogen for it).

One thing about FC Scenery that amazes me, is one single man has created much of the world by himself and he plans to complete the entire world.  Yes, some of his older scenery is lacking, especially autogen, but all of his more current scenery looks much better and has 80% to 90% autogen coverage.

Also he is remaking a lot of his older scenery that really needs it.  I notice for the U.S. for example, there are now a lot of V2 packages.

I also think that a lot of his scenery color looks good and accurate, but there are some places like Hawaii that look too green to be realistic (I know somebody also mentioned Switzerland).  Overall his scenery is a really great deal.

Referencing FCScenery I discarded the rar download files after installing to save the space it would take to store those. No longer needed once the area or country is installed. You would have to download them again if you ever had to reinstall but frees up a bit of drive space.

I keep all of the installation files on my cloud drive just to be safe, I have tons of cloud space, as well as some I store on a physical drive too.

As much as I like the FC Scenery developer, I have seen it time and time again where both FSX and P3D files (freeware and payware) permanently disappear off of the internet all the time so I don't trust anyone to store my files except for me.  Of course it does cost a lot of money to store so many large scenery files and not everyone can afford to store all of that.

You would be surprised at how many products I own now for both FSX and P3D that cannot be recovered if I lose the installation files for them that I have stored.

What's the most efficient and straightforward way of utilising different sceneries? Do you keep the Orbx products activated in Orbx Central? I imagine that in order to prevent ridiculous start up times you only activate FC Scenery for the countries you are flying to and from and in between? Just curious how its all managed.

You are correct, it's best to activate the scenery in the P3D scenery library and in the P3D Addons folder,  that you want to see in your flight, I disable anything I don't need.  If I'm using Orbx scenery, I disable FC Scenery, if I want to fly over FC Scenery, then I disable all Orbx scenery.

In fact, I use this as a rule for all the scenery I own, I only leave enabled, the scenery I want to fly over in my flight.  Everything else that I wont see or don't want to see (and also scenery that conflicts), I disable in the scenery library and in the P3D Addons folder (that use the xml method).

BTW, this I don't just do this for landclass and photoscenery, I also do this for all types of scenery, like cityscapes and add-on airports.  If you have as many scenery's that I do, leaving everything enabled would kill P3D for sure.

I should add that I do leave most default scenery enabled (except for default POI scenery like Randolph AFB, etc. unless I want to use them).

If you don't already use it, I recommend you use Lorby's P3D Addon Organizer tool that you can find on this page:

Hello,

Could someone please tell me how long it takes to get the download links? I bought it many, many hours ago, I sent the email with the attached receipt of the "donation" and no one answers, no auto reply, nothing.

Thanks.

Takes over a day sometimes, he said he had been poorly last time I spoke to him. I'm waiting for links myself, give it a little while. He will respond
