April 16, 20251 yr Hello, New machine will be ready tonight, so I'm just curious what I would do to save settings/set-up etc in MSFS2020? Any advice would be much appreciated. 9950X3D, X870E ROG CROSSHAIR HERO, Corsair Dominator Titanium 64GB DDR5-6000 PC5-48000, ASUS RTX 5070Ti 16GB, 9100 PRO 4TB Samsung ,990 PRO 4TB Samsung, AX1600i 1600 Watt 80 Plus Titanium ATX, ASUS 360 ARGB EXTREME 360mm Liquid CPU Cooling Kit.
April 16, 20251 yr I just went through this. I copied over some addons from my community folder but mostly just started over. in a nice surprise all of my hardware settings ported over when started up MSFS being backed up in the cloud my only regret was installing both 2020 and 2024. I should have just installed 2024. Would have saved a bunch of hassles in directing software to the right folders. what are your machine specs? Edited April 16, 20251 yr by MarkW Mark CYYZ
April 16, 20251 yr Author Yeah, I guess most of the payware (unless it's either ORBX or Contrail), should be reinstalled. I'm glad that settings, including graphics and views, would be retained. 9950X3D, X870E ROG CROSSHAIR HERO, Corsair Dominator Titanium 64GB DDR5-6000 PC5-48000, ASUS RTX 5070Ti 16GB, 9100 PRO 4TB Samsung ,990 PRO 4TB Samsung, AX1600i 1600 Watt 80 Plus Titanium ATX, ASUS 360 ARGB EXTREME 360mm Liquid CPU Cooling Kit.

The last time I switched to a new PC, all of my controller settings were there when I reinstalled MSFS. 9950X3D - X870E Aorus Master- TUF 5090 OC - 64GB DDR5 - 1500W HXi - Titan 360 RX LCD - 9100 Pro x 2 - LG 45GX950A - HOTAS Warthog with Ava Base
April 16, 20251 yr If you use and FS Dream Team (GSX, etc.) make sure you deregister them before moving.

Don't care much of MSFS 2024 as of yet, as MSFS 2020 is my top priority. Really want to increase TLOD to 150 at EGLL and KJFK with Fenix/PMDG/AIG/PSXT with this machine. I'm not at 4k, rather at 1440. I'm moving from 9900k/5.0 and 4070Ti and 32GB RAM. It's been since 2018 with exception of 4070Ti. April 16, 20251 yr Why is it that some people with powerful PCs run MSFS with TLOD so low? I have TLOD set to 250 on the PC in my signature, and I can take off and land at IniBuilds Heathrow just fine. April 16, 20251 yr I recently built a new computer and moved 2020 over. I simply bought an external hard drive and saved all the MSFS 2020 files over to the external drive. Since I'm on a steam I had to research where some files were as in my case I don't think all the files were in the same place, e.g., I had MSFS files in my c and d drivers. The most important folder is the community folder (where all my payware and freeware add-ons are) but I decided to find all MSFS files just in case. I just did a clean reinstall via Steam of MSFS, and then I slowly started copying and pasting certain third party add-ons from the old community drive to the new one on new computer. I decided not to just copy and paste all folders from the old community to the new as I was worried about causing some issue. I culled some 3rd party add-ons I didn't need. Was pretty easy. Also, are you sure that you are not confusing TLOD with OLOD? OLOD is 200 in my case. 9950X3D, X870E ROG CROSSHAIR HERO, Corsair Dominator Titanium 64GB DDR5-6000 PC5-48000, ASUS RTX 5070Ti 16GB, 9100 PRO 4TB Samsung ,990 PRO 4TB Samsung, AX1600i 1600 Watt 80 Plus Titanium ATX, ASUS 360 ARGB EXTREME 360mm Liquid CPU Cooling Kit.

April 16, 20251 yr I recently did this too, and while it’s not fun, it is nice to start fresh. I’d recommend pre-downloading any essential software, chipset drivers, etc. installers like Orbx, contrails, and anything else to get you up and running quickly. Then, just start fresh and redownload any addons you can’t live without. Organize your folders with addon linker. Also, make sure to run windows updates a few times after installing the basics, and do system integrity scans.
