Take back all those 'Well dones' The S.O.B is back! It was nice while it lasted. Sheesh!

Sounds like the OS updated itself and reintroduced the bug.

I followed the instructions and after several false starts got it working. Uninstall Xbox app, uninstall GamingService app (I did it via Start/Settings/Apps) restart PC. Reinstall from Microsoft Store

  • Here's what it says in English at the link in the post immediately above by SN737: In Windows 11, you can activate a button that allows you to stop frozen program processes at any time. This save

If you do that, the fix I gave you won't work. The normal shutdown is to exit to the main screen and then quit to desktop.

Tried another test:

Tested with Developer FIX On

Exited MSFS2020 using Alt + F4

Immediate close to desktop.
No MSFS2020 Icon in task bar.

Had to use Taskmanger (Background processes) to End Task on Flightsimulator.exe

I figured everyone would know how to properly shut down MSFS, never have used the X  on upper right.

Using X to close MSFS2020 is not correct?

I use it on all SIMs.

Alt F4 is not the recommended way to shut down MSFS either.

No, it never has been.

What is X used for?

It is used for other programs, not recommended for MSFS,

After flight hit ESC- go to main menu- exit to desktop.

not recommended for MSFS,

How did you arrive to that conclusion, or where does MS says not to use it.

The X is there with the same purpose and use for any windows app, it is to close it, if it wasn't meant to close MSFS020 it wouldn't be there.

Can you provide a link to this?

Start up MSFS Once running, and on runway, hit escape key. You will then see a screen that says "warning, this will return you to main main menu. Do you want to continue, click on  continue. This will take you to the startup up screen. on the bottom left it will say (esc) Quit to desktop. Click on that or hit the Esc key again. That is the way the shutdown has worked for 4 years.

If you end flight, go back to welcome screen, click on the box to close to desktop, then the .cfg files will save useful information before the sim closes. If you use the emergency exit, namely the X at the top of the window, that will not happen.

Exactly, we were told years ago, not to use the X Key because sometimes strange things would happen, like it would screw up your settings, or it would ask you on the next startup if you wanted to start in safe mode.

The sequence :
Esc
Main menu
Desktop
Continue
Quit to Desktop

At the Desktop:
That did display the Running MSFS2020 icon in the Taskbar.
Then, right clicking the MSFS2020 Icon.
Then clicking on End Task in the popup did shut down MSFS2020.

However, I will not continue doing all that.
I will continue to use X to close MSFS2020 (and all other Sims) then use the Taskmanager to End Task.

Never had a problem with closing with X.

My original question was:

Do you have a link to that?
