I followed the instructions and after several false starts got it working. Uninstall Xbox app, uninstall GamingService app (I did it via Start/Settings/Apps) restart PC. Reinstall from Microsoft Store

I always shut down MSFS by going to the Main menu and exiting from there. I think the next time I will just hit the X on the top right to close it, and see if it hangs.

I'm having the same problem. I thought I had a corrupt install and was going to reinstall. I'm glad I read this post first.

Just checking:

Was the last MSFS2020 update the monthly Navdata?

So far I have not had this problem.

Thanks for confirming.

I have the Navdata and the City Update.

Limited testing on the City Update but no problems exiting MSFS2020.

I just closed down MSFS after a flight using the X, and it shut right down.

Thanks for the tip. The issue started for me as you stated right after the last update. I really wish they would leave my sim alone. I did not need the last two WU. All they did was take up space.

Do you have the Steam version? I heard this is another issue just for Store users.

Don't be fooled by that. I was. It is still running in Task Manager. It is a swine!

I have the store version.

I just now tested again.

All ok.

Edit:

I shut down with the X while watching the Task Manager and MSFS Process vanished from the Task Manager.
