I have the store version.

I just now tested again.

All ok.

Edit:

I shut down with the X while watching the Task Manager and MSFS Process vanished from the Task Manager.

most likely due the issues went  away for you, is the reason  it disappeared from the task manager

I followed the instructions and after several false starts got it working. Uninstall Xbox app, uninstall GamingService app (I did it via Start/Settings/Apps) restart PC. Reinstall from Microsoft Store

The real test after a sim shutdown if to try and restart the sim. I have found that although the sim does not show up as a running app in the task manager, it may still be running and show up under the task managers Background processes list. If the sim is listed under Background processes, you will get the "Sim is already running" message when you try to restart it.

I tested again but this time I used the Esc key routing and MSFS2020 did not shut down and remained in the Task Manager.

My normal exit from MSFS after a flight is always using the X and a PC reboot.

probably due to the issues now, and  closing  it  by  the  x instead of the normal method hopefully  they will fix  the issues  in the next update

I don't know what you're pointing me to. If you doubt, me scroll right down in Task Manager and you'll come to MSFS eating up CPUs

and all sorts!

When I used X to close down the SIM, it was closed, no CPU or anything going on.

I was pointing to the numerous complaints on the FS forum of the same issue.

To all of you who have posted, don't forget to vote here: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/msfs-2020-will-not-shut-down-fully/717408

Well I just shut it down with the X, and checked in task manager, and it was still running using about 33% of CPU. That is a PIA, frankly. Wonder what havoc the 2024 update will unleash when it is dropped.

Ah. Been there, a long list of 'This happens to me' posts. Voted, but nothing happened. Can't think why. 🤣

The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA

A couple of hundred posts on this issue on the FS Forum, not a peep from Asobo. I guess they have this problem on "ignore" like so many other issues.

I would think it has to be an add-on as I use Alt-F4 to exit 2020, always have and don't have any shutdown problems...   Exclusively flying the 777 and 737 with FSHud

I've found it's more of an issue to hit esc, go back to the menu and exit than just alt-f4 out from the flightdeck.

Has this been confirmed with a vanilla installation?

I am on a flight now, going to try that when I land.

I am getting the same problem in MSFS 2024.

I had never used ALT F4 so just gave it a try.

MSFS2020 shut down but still running.

Ugh...  Well I'm out of "brilliant" ideas.  Interesting how small the memory footprint is compared to when you are in sim...

This has also been verified with vanilla community?  Just asking, don't shoot me 😉

Looks like some are seeing this in '24 now as well.  Frustrating.
