Not to mention a drone show including 150 drones! 😀 I've not seen one before.

Lots of events, including...

5pm: historical re-enactment of Force 135's arrival feature HMS Medusa and Rummy III (HMS Flycatcher), Albert Pier and seafront

An American contribution. Flying 12000 miles to take part!

Included in the 80 anniversary programme is 'Ready for Duty' (R4D), operated by the Dallas-based Commemorative Air Force and the last aircraft of its kind that is still flying.  Built in 1944, R4D is the U.S. Navy's version of the legendary DC-3 and C-47.

The aircraft is embarking on a 12,000-mile journey to honour the service and sacrifice of American and Allied forces for VE Day and the 80th anniversary of the end of the war. The aircraft will carry several historic artefacts from World War II warships including items from the USS Yorktow, USS Texas and USS Laffey.

Pardon me for the ignorance, but what is what they're calling as Liberation Day?

Cheers, Ed

The biggest event in the Guernsey calendar. When the island was liberated in WW2.

Liberation Day is one of the most important days in Guernsey’s calendar and commemorates the islands’ freedom from the German Occupation during World War II.

Celebrated annually on 9th May, the festivities provide an opportunity for islanders to remember the days of Occupation, which played such a monumental role in shaping both the landscape and the lives of the people of Guernsey.

Managed by the States of Guernsey, Sport and Culture, the celebrations attract thousands of people to the St Peter Port seafront for a day filled with entertainment and activities for all ages. From the church parade and motor cavalcade to live music, stalls and the firework display, the day truly offers something for every islander.

Obviously my highlights are the aircraft. Hopefully they will be low passes.

When the Red's arrive for our airshows it's nice. Low over the town with all smoke on.

I like the old warbirds but to be honest I prefer the latest technology. So the A400M will be interesting.

It`s proper name is VE Day Victory in Europe as It`s been called for years before this year.

Enjoy the sound of those Merlins flying over, one of the greatest sounds you will ever here.

They used to fly a Lancaster escorted by a pair of Spitfires over Toronto on Rememberance Day when I lived there decades ago, that sound filled an entire city

?

It's still VE day. In the Channel Islands it's always been celebrated as Liberation Day.

It's always been Liberation day in the Channel Islands, for like, 80 years. The celebration is specifically  the liberation of the Channel islands, not Europe.

UK still has VE Day, I don't recall anything changed.

A Spifire does fly over quite regularly, actually. A two seater.  The Spitfire Flight Experience. Expensive though. But they do allow you to take the controls.

Highlights of Russia’s Victory in WWII parade today:

Wikipedia comes to my rescue.

Channel Islands citizens are not citizens of the U.K. They are part of a bailiwick. I suppose that means their head of state is a bailiff. Which sounds like a title of a character out of Robin Hood :).

Also wikipedia: Britain was not occupied by the Germans in WWII. But the Channel Islands were. And thus had to be liberated.

I get Baliffs and Beadles and so forth mixed up.

In Dicken's story Oliver Twist, there are no policemen in London streets to enforce the laws, apparently they weren't yet needed. The local executive that kept the peace was the Beadle, who was attached to the Church parish.

This is Oliver in the custody of the Beadle, who's name is Mr. Bumble.
