Update... this one's a doozy.

Well, I'm not crashing anymore.  It turns out that the issue appears to have been the Longitude... not my system and not the majority of FS2020.

All of these crashes began a couple of days following the last updates.  I was in a series of flights with the Longitude (one of my favorites) when the crashes began.  No matter what changes/adjustments I made the sim would crash when I clicked "Fly".

I stopped flying for a few days out of frustration.  Yesterday I loaded up the Kodiak to see if I could fly and lo.. the aircraft spawned perfectly and everything went well.  I did another flight with the Kodiak and all was well.  On a hunch I loaded up the Longitude and CRASH.  Loaded up the CJ4 and it flew beautifully.  Tried the Longitude again and... CRASH.

So... I don't know if MS/ASOBO broke the Longitude with SU16 or if it's something specific to my installation, but all aircraft I've tried except the Longitude allow me to fly!

out of interest your not flying in New zealand are you ?

  • Hi folks, Yes, the issue that was formerly preventing MSFS (2020) from shutting down properly after exiting the sim and required manual executable termination from Task Manager is now resolved wi

  • I wish they would leave 2020 alone. It works fine now.

Because it's a server and client architecture.  Windows is not really a server and client architecture. You can use Windows without an internet connection. A lot of MSFS 2020 heavily depends on the se

Do you have some mods for the Longitude installed ?

If so delete it or save it somewhere and try..

Do you tried without the whole community Folder to fly the Longitude ?

cheers 😉

No mods for the Longitude.

I have Bijan Seasons and Navigraph - I always fly with these.  In the midst of all of this I did remove all of these to test - still crashed, so I put them back in.

No - all of these tests were in Europe and the US.

I have found it only runs in dx12, if not it crashes, i updated to latest driver and it worked for a day or two, then last night it crashed again. I am just glad i had 900 odd hours in 2020 prior to this mess and that i never went near 2024.

I may just uninstall 2020 and be done with it.

This is a known issue with the NVIDIA drivers. Has been for 6 plus months now. Leave it in DirectX 12 and no CTD issue. You can use the NVIDIA app and hit 'Optimize game' for 2020'

Ridiculous that it's been 6 months without resolution for this.

I received a 45 MB update yesterday. No idea what it was.

An update...  I've also posted this in another thread:

After not being able to fly for about 4 days, I suspect that there was an incompatibility from a recent Windows 10 update that may have caused a lot of my issues with FS2020, as all file checks, memory tests, etc. came back clean.

At long-last I have made the upgrade to Windows 11.  I was not able to do this before as I had massive hardware changes and a need to clone all of my many multimedia programs over to that hardware and test them completely (including FS2020).

I began my attempts to move to Win 11 last week and it kept failing and reverting.  Finally, after a BIOS update the Win11 update worked and I am now running smoothly on the new OS.  Whatever the issue was for me with FS2020 after the release of SU16, it appears to be gone after leaving Win10 - there have been no more crashes.
