August 10, 2025Aug 10 I had been working on a couple of small add-on airports in Australia before the SU16 announcement, but then stopped since I didn't want to redo things after SU16. One thing SU16 does is align the Bing aerial textures (they were previously off by up to 2 metres in some eplaces). All well and good. Anyway, I resumed working on them yesterday, and yes, the imagery is more recent now (by no means current) but seriously low-rez! While with the pre-SU16 aerials I could easily identify ground markings, cones, runway lights etc. at those airports, the SU16 imagery is just a blur and I have to guess where things go. I understand now why lots of people were complaining about 2024 being being worse as far as aerials are concerned. Well, no longer!

August 10, 2025Aug 10 SU16 still includes the ugly mismatched colours joint and messed up textures southwest of EGSU Duxford in England. They really need to decide whether they want "England's green and pleasant land" or "England's burned to a crisp when the Sun becomes a red giant land". The former would be more appropriate, even if it is older. August 11, 2025Aug 11 I'm a flightsim casual, although i got addicted to MSFS 2020, done about 900 steam hours on it, had a wonderful time but as i play less and less i'm thinking of uninstalling it from steam, now with other games i do this a lot and just need to reinstall if i wanted to play again, question is with MSFS 2020 would the process mean installing ALL the updates all over again? I just want to free up some SSD space for a bit but don't want to have to download heaps of stuff all over... so is uninstalling effectively a bad idea if i wanted to use it again in say a month? You will have to reinstall all the world and city updates after the initial reinstall. It takes a few hours. 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber

August 11, 2025Aug 11 As Soren has indicated, you can see part of the joint line at the 0:16 timestamp. The "corner" of this colour change will be close to that location, and there is also a small area close to this where the textures seem to be out of place. EDIT: I know that it is extremely difficult to solve problems like this, but I wish that they would try. Like those "blurred out" French naval dockyards and other military areas. Massive immersion breakers, and my OCD nature means that I am never able to "unsee" them I even feel uncomfortable about them right now, and I am not at home!! August 11, 2025Aug 11 The burnt landscape of the UK was the first thing that started to put me off 2020, even came on here and had the usual 'your making it up because you are a troll' type behaviour. I wasn't, its there, one really really hot summer and bing sent up the drones to take picture's.. great idea. It just feels so wrong to be flying over a golden UK at any time of year. Also when i got MSFS all those years ago, i was running a GTX 1060 6GB and i7 4090, in fact I'm writing this on that same computer as its my desktop one now... anyway i was running medium graphics and it was spell binding, then i had the RTX 2070 and could up the graphics and again was blown away. Now I'm on an RTX 4070 and i just can't get that same feeling back.... i wish i was starting out anew, i also am pretty sure that it went backwards over the years. This final update, i just don't think i can be arsed now. MSFS 2024 just isn't leaps and bounds better, but i might uninstall 2020 and maybe few months get 2024 and try to hopefully feel like its all new again... I am predominantly a sim racer and MSFS changed my gaming world, a truly mind blowing piece of software which maybe lost its way a bit... Ryzen 5 3600 / RTX 2070 8GB / 2x8 RAM/

Seeing how much better tiles mesh than they ever did using stuff like MegaScenery Earth in FSX and P3D leads me to believe that they do, in fact, try. It is, as you say, extremely difficult to color match across an entire globe from a set of images gathered under different conditions without getting things badly wrong. So, you do the best you can. There was a set of imagery for the US state of Colorado that I bought years ago for P3D (sorry, don't recall the name) that advertised that, unlike their competitors they'd color matched all tiles across the entire state. They actually did manage to accomplish getting everything to match so you didn't see obvious boundaries. The problem was, this made colors subjectively off from the real world in way too many places. Colorado was where I based my airplane and flew from back in the day, I knew all too well what the entire region should look like from an airplane and the color matching just made way too many places look... well, not like Colorado really looks. They did what they set out to do but I really disliked the results and went back to their competitor's product, flawed as it was. Scott

August 12, 2025Aug 12 I have just noticed that a large number of trees appear to have been culled near certain airports. I first noticed this at Terrainy Studios LGIK Ikaria (seemed to be fewer trees on the hill above the airport, and missing areas directly adjacent to the runway). However, I definitely noticed it this evening at 29 Palms LGMK Mykonos. Now, this area probably does not have a huge number of trees, but it looked really barren and empty to me. It almost gave me the impression of my early P3D days when I was flying over photoscenery with no autogen at all. Mykonos may not be supposed to have lots of trees, but the lack of them compared to before the SU16 update has resulted in a significant downgrade to the visual environment. Is anyone else seeing this, or do I have a local problem? August 12, 2025Aug 12 This is all a result of the new bing maps imagery unfortunately. They look worse than the previous aerials via web browser too.
