MSFS 2020 SU16 (released 5 Aug 25)

Featured Replies

Hi all

Since sim update 16 I have been getting CTD whenever I fly over or from the top of New Zealand's south Island. A bunch of kind forum members tried to help me out with suggestions.  I thank all of you

However I believe I have narrowed this down to the points of interest in world update XII New Zealand. If I uninstall the points of interest I can load into a flight at NZNS however if I reinstall the points of interest I again get the CTD when loading a flight at the top of NZ south Island.

Is there a way of only loading individual points of interest so I can to try and get most of them working again? My instinct is that there is a point of interest at either the top of the south island or the bottom of the north island that my  sim and PC dont like each other

Thanks in advance if you can help

Best wishes.

Bob

Yes, I tried loading the CS R66 heli at NZNS runway 2, got to the ready to fly screen, the sound cut out, and two seconds later, CTD.  This in 2020 with all available updates installed, including the one for WU XIII NZD. I tried again with the Carenado V35, runway 20R, and same thing. So I guess Asobo has some fixing to do.

For what it is worth as you may have the same issue as I

In my way of thinking I have something in the sim which is loading when I get close to the Western side of the top on New Zealand's south Island which is causing the sim to CTD.  Note the first time I got the  CTD, I was flying from NZAA to NZCH at over 30000 feet.  Very strange

I just had a CTD at FL260 between NZWN and NZCH and slightly south of Abeam NZNS. The sound deteriorated then it crashed. I might start removing sceneries in that area from my community folder and see what happens.

Cheers

Some great detective work there!

I would definitely file a ticket with Asobo. As you've narrowed it down to a very specific package, and it's one that's included in MSFS, I would think that they would be able to find and fix the issue.

No ideas on a workaround though - I believe it isn't unfortunately possible to install or uninstall individual points of interest.

one has to ask the question, did no-one in the beta from NZ have or find the issue?, as somone here has found the issue in a matter of hours, yet the beta went on for weeks.

Well done for finding it.

Do i have to install the Updates from the points of interest, so does it install only points or does it install needed scenery ??

I thought I would only install the other updates (airports, etc.), but not the points of interest, as I don't usually fly to such places or look at them much afterwards.

cheers 😉

Hi

I would try by uninstalling the points of interest from world update XII New Zealand.

I also went down the route of renaming the community folder etc but but it still CTD if I went close to the top on the south island.

I then removed the full NZ world update and the sim did not CTD.

So I slowly reinstalled various parts of world update until I got a CTD (which it did after I reinstalled the points of interest)  Uninstalled the Points of interest and the sim appears to be going OK.

Best wishes.

Hi

For me after installing sim update 16 this morning I also installed about 20 other updates from the content section within the sim (I guess world update X11 New Zealand was one of the 20?)

However after doing this the sim CTD whenever I went close to the top of the south Island of NZ

By trial and error I found if I uninstall the points of interest from within world update XII New Zealand, the CTD at the top of NZ south island appear to be fixed

What I would like to know is can I now install some of the points of interest to leaving out those at the top of the south island.

Best wishes.

Bob

This update destroyed the LOD and draw distances. This is the most visible thing overall. They improved FS2020 with 5% more subtlety while FS2020 can potentially receive much more.  Asobo is rolling out their strategy as planned no matter how much trouble we take to give our opinion. Their Q&A videos and their propaganda have long since stopped making sense to me. This confirms my initial thought that FS2024 is an incredible scam.

I think that the answer to that is no.
Looking at the files in the official folder, there appear to be four libraries and one placement file.
As MSFS checks all of its files every time it starts and replaces those that are missing or broken,
editing them seems to be pointless.
I think it must be all or nothing.

I can only tell you that I did this test:

In …\Official\OneStore\ microsoft-newzealand-point-of-interest

I deleted "only the contents" of the ContentInfo - Scenery - SimObjects - Visual EffectLibs folders.

I started MSFS 2020 and it didn't report anything when loading or perform any updates. Then I checked, and all the folders whose contents I had deleted were still empty.

I'm surprise that nobody has noticed a sudden loss of FPS. I'm running the SIM about 60FPS (FG on), and suddenly, the FPS fall below 10... I tried to downgrade multiple graphics settings without result. At last, I discovered that I had to turn photogrametry to off. Then, the FPS came back to normal. It seems like there is some incompatibility between the new Bing data and photogrammetry.

Edit : I think the reason is that I forgot to update my dlss files with DLSS Swapper... Fingers crossed for my next flight !

No idea what's going on with your side.

I gained a solid 10-12 FPS after SU16.

VR feels more fluid than ever overall.

can I submit an expenses claim for electricity usage every time I went to my computer like 2 days after flying and found flightsimulator.exe still happily running away and consuming 8gb memory? 😁
