June 5, 20251 yr I remember back in the 80’s or 90’s there were VHS video recorders that could detect when an ad break started and finished and stoped and restarted the recording accordingly, giving you an ad free recording. I pay for YouTube premium as I detest mind numbing adverts, however the majority of my viewing when at home is from physical media, which annoyingly also sometimes have ads for other films at the beginning. My stupid long haul lifestyle means I spend a lot of time awake in the middle of the local night in a hotel room somewhere so I also pay for ad free Amazon prime, but really I’m not interested in anything contemporary coming out of Hollywood. The film industry is just pumping out utter trash with political undertones and woke themes. I much prefer Clint’s work from the 1970’s or a good Columbo. 787 captain. June 5, 20251 yr Use Brave, it's a chromium-based browser that doesn't even render ads. They're just gone everywhere. And the ones that somehow manage to slip though which are very very VERY few, i deal with them manually. I would never buy things from ads, if i want something i'll go look for it, serving them to me is a waste of bandwidth anyway. But agree, not just YouTube, Prime, Netflix, etc. you pay for the service, then you have to pay again for an “upgrade” to not see Ads … and sometimes Prime (an already pay for service) will show you 3 seasons of a show and then charge you to see the 4th season!? The greed has really got out of hand and NO ONE is doing anything about it … the disgusting side of unregulated capitalism. This practice is why I created a PLEX server and install PLEX client on all my TVs and other devices. I’ve converted my huge collection of DVD/BD/CDs so I have everything on my local PLEX server. Since BD/DVD are getting harder to find but I’ve managed to secure “Bulk” BD/DVD crates to convert. The average person spends 4.2 years watching Ads … I’m not going to be a part of that statistic. I use and pay for Total Adblock (for YouTube and my homepage (MSN.com). I'm a big user of YouTube and Total Adblock is perfect for that. It works great. No ads. It's also not that expensive. But it's really worth it. Edited June 5, 20251 yr by spilok

The non pay version works very well also....There must some algorithm UTube uses and KNOWS when Ad-block is in use,,I did have to pause Ad-block yesterday to use Youtube...Today they (Youtube) is not using their algorithm and Ad-Block again is blocking all ads...Also Ghostery is very good..Free as well.
June 6, 2025Jun 6 On my computers (not TV), I have seen probably a thousand youtube videos with no ads. And no Youtube Premium either. Firefox Browser and AdBlocker Ultimate Firefox extension. Firefox is not owned by Google. But Youtube and Chrome are owned by Google. This is why the ads cannot be blocked very well with Chrome addons, but they are blocked with Firefox extensions. I can also download all youtube videos, usually quickly but sometimes slowly with other Firefox extensions and store then on hardrive to be played in Windows Video Player or VLC. Of course then they are ad free. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Happened to me too. I restarted my computer and went to YouTube and that warning was gone. I am using, as I said, Total AdBlock and so far I am pleased with it.

June 7, 2025Jun 7 Everyone should just move to Vimeo … the advertising revenue from YouTube is pathetic. Content creators get their income from companies that want to expose their products to the world and from selling physical products (merchandise) with their logos etc. This can be accomplished on any platform. Content providers losing YouTube monetization wouldn’t even register as an amount on their financials. Moving to Vimeo provides for complete freedom from YouTube algorithms and constant changing of policy leaving content providers wonder why their videos are not getting any coverage. All that garbage is removed with Vimeo and for larger content providers the cost of Vimeo is negligible at about $900/yr. Content providers can focus on what they want to do and not what the YouTube algorithm tells them to do. And most important, NO viewers have to pay to not see Ads because there are no Ads.
