Fenix VNAV Descent Issues?

Featured Replies

Interesting video of the Fenix VNAV compared to Tolis and the real thing.    I've always had to aggressively use speed brakes and/or V/S mode to stay on speed / altitude during descents.   Thought it was just my technique or that the real jet was like this.   Maybe Amir can take a look at this for an upcoming patch?

I knew its not me or something i did when i have to use speedbreaks constantly 🙂

Thanks for posting it

Speedbrakes are entirely normal in day-to-day flying. Fly the aeroplane, don't let the aeroplane fly you. Big discussion on the Fenix Discord.

Rob Jones.

I also noticed that below 10,000 feet, when the speed drops to 250 knots in managed descent, the Fenix starts descending very aggressively and unrealistically to get back on the path, which forces me to use the speedbrakes about 90% of the time. I don’t have this issue with the FSLabs.

So, what are you saying? Since vnav is off, just do it yourself?

even if one takes your approach it still doesn’t negate the fact that vnav is off.

I love the fenix, its the best airliner sim by far, but why is this only getting attention now?  Ive been saying this on their discord for years now and all anyone has ever done was tell me I was wrong.

Fenix know it's off, hence the rework they are doing now.

Because Fenix had been the holy cow around since day one. Dare to say a critical word and the usual mob will be at your throat regurgitating links and quotes from their favorite youtuber telling you it's just infallible.

A word of credit for the Fenix team: in spite of said crowd, they have been working to correct many of the issues that primarily revolve around the flight dynamics. Again, to their credit , they managed to improve a lot on what initially (V1) was in a rather poor state as far as flight dynamics go. (systems were good since day one).

There are still many issues to address, and opposed to the common perception it's still far from perfection but the bit of good news is that at least they, are taking their own product seriously.

The guy submitted it once he was muted in his words banned. What he failed to say in the video was how arrogant, sarcastic etc he was and was trying to play victim and generally wouldn't listen to Aamir. It's been getting attention for a while you know this.

Yeah most of the pushback I received on the fenix discord for suggesting that vnav wasn't right was not from the dev team, but from other users that dont know any better.  I have nothing but positive things to say about the fenix team, they have an amazing attitude and product, and we honestly dont deserve them.  They are absolutely top notch in my view.  I think that is important to say, because yes there are still things that are not 100%, but its by far the top airliner sim around by quite a huge margin.

Yes. you do, but not to the extent that you do in the Fenix A320. If they are aware of it and are doing something about it then that's great, although I thought that this should have been fixed in the BFU.

If i am not mistaken this will be the 3rd rewrite of VNAV. I really hope that this time it will be good.

Comparing the Fenix VNAV to FSL, I use the speedbrake maybe 30% of the time compared to Fenix.

Not a "holy cow", but a cow that can be trusted.
