August 19, 2025Aug 19 I didn't think it'd be possible, but I'm now running my HP Reverb G2 at 100% render scale using TAA with a 45 fps frame lock. It's a smooth and consistent 45 fps (VR with Depth reprojection enabled), though with an occasional stutter in difficult areas near the ground. Using almost full Ultra/maxed settings (only Trees, Grasses and Clouds are at High). Using MSFS_AutoFPS with expert at FPS_cap, TLOD base at 90/150 top at 500/10000. Dang, the cockpit looks so crisp using TAA, along with everything else; there's no need for DLSS. The visual quality with my setting blow my mind; I wish all VR MSFS users could see what's possible. But in the end the G2 itself is far from perfect, but now I've experienced what it's capable of. My only disclaimer is that this is with running MSFS 2020 DX12 with GA aircraft. I've yet to install MSFS 2024, but I will soon. Before moving on I just wanted a last parting experience to compare to my old build. I wouldn't be surprise if 2024 collapses this house of cards I described here, I'll find out soon. Didn't mean to gloat here, just sharing my joy. Thanks for reading. August 20, 2025Aug 20 I had the G2 in 2021, it's crazy to see how well it has aged. Just a reminder: since 24H2 Windows 11 ditched WMR support, so make sure you don't update if you want to use it. 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber

I bought my 3080 ti about the same time solely to go VR. I'm seriously looking at the Pimax Dream Air SE to replace it in the near future. If you browse down this sub-forum, I made a topic on how to install Win 11 on a new computer, the one I now use, without having 24H2 installed on it (it's not trivial). Now we're all waiting for the Oasis SteamVR driver to breath new life into the G2 for 24H2 and beyond, making that guide moot (Yay!). October 2, 2025Oct 2 Author Finally got MSFS 2024 installed and configured on my new build. I did a few short hop GA flights and all I can say is that the visuals and performance of MSFS 2024 blows 2020 away completely in VR. IMHO my new build definitely ranks as VR heaven. At one time I thought I'd never see the day that a GPU could rule the G2's resolution, especially at near full Ultra settings (in 2024 at that, though with 45 fps locked). All that remains now is getting my hands on a Pimax Dream Air SE. Can't wait to lose the funky lenses and panels of the G2...it's only thing hold back complete VR bliss right now. October 3, 2025Oct 3 Try G2 at 150% TAA rendering scale , and that would very likely ruin your day, b/c G2 looks so much crisper at 150% but you pay hefty fps penalty. You'll be trapped again between picking best visual or best fps.. 😆 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
October 3, 2025Oct 3 Author I experimented with that scaling setting, since it seems popular, and found that at least with the planes I usually fly, the teeny bit of jaggies that were cleaned up weren't worth the performance hit it cost IMO. Conversely, that teeny bit isn't bothersome enough to me to be a problem needing to be solved, as in if I don't look for it, I don't notice it. Lucky me, I guess. October 4, 2025Oct 4 For me now the best is 100% resolution in WMR and DLSS4 in balanced and preset K (I can´t watch a difference with Quality setting) nothing to envy 150% TAA. Maybe TAA 100% in glass cockpits airliners and in the night. The Dream Air SE, cropping the FOV (FS24 should add that itself, like other simulators) should work well plus Foveated Rendering.

Instead, increase the rendering scale in your openxr runtime.
October 6, 2025Oct 6 Yes, my mistake - haven't used the G2 for a long time. For G2 I did set the rendering scaling in OpenXR. I settled down to 225% (which is 150% scale up). In MSFS, I think I used DLSS to make fps acceptable. For some reason G2 just loves upscaling, while upscaling barely improves anything in Pimax Crystal Light. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11

Looks to me a 225% scaling will have MSFS render the image at 150% effectively if using DLSS Quality, and the cuda core filtering will produce a huge 225% image, which then openxr somehow downscale back to 100% so it can be given to the HMD for displaying. Interesting if all of this is started with a 150% scaling, it sort of mimics what DLAA is suppose to do. Which render scaling did you use, the one in "OpenXR Tools of WMR" app or within the OXR Toolkit? Thanks! October 6, 2025Oct 6 I never used OXR toolkit with G2 before, so only did the scaling in windows OpenXR (I think it's called "OpenXR Tools for WMR" as you mentioned). If you want to go crazy you can even try 400% scale in OpenXR. I got 8 fps with 3090 in MSFS2020, but was thoroughly impressed how crystal clear the G2 looks. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
October 8, 2025Oct 8 I'm jealous. I would have thought a RTX 4080 and 12700K could do the job...but my Reverb G2 isn't great - I cannot run such high settings. I wish consumer VR was in a better spot... while I could afford a max end PC system, it's not the right thing to buy right now lol. I do enjoy helicopters though in VR... the sense of depth is really worth it even if the graphics aren't amazing. One more thing - you guys are running Open XR for MSFS? I think im still running WMD with Win11. I disabled updates via that Major Geek tool lol. Is there a new driver that works in Win11 with the G2? IMO the 5090 is the harbinger of the "better spot" (not to be confused with the "sweet spot" ;-). When the Pimax Dream Air SE releases, that time will have arrived, at least for me (got one on preorder). But consumer level? I guess that's debatable considering all the crazy 4 figure price tags. Just imagine what the 6090 will bring to the VR table (1500W PSUs 😂).
