Carenado C172

For the record, I have been flying this plane a lot for several days. Really good experience. In the wind, it blows all around, not on rails at all. I don't have any issues. The default pilot position is perfect, not way down to low like on another Carenado plane.

I agree, I am enjoying the engine sounds.  Do not know how accurate but at least it is not as quiet as some the modern planes.  I am using it for short flights.  I pick a state and fly to all of the airports that have an airport on site.

  • ? It's a digital reproduction of a Cessna 172. If Carenado call it a 'Cessna' 172 they put themselves in danger of breach of copyright, hence 'Carenado' 172. The same applies to Fenix, Inibu

  • Somebody finds it 'hilarious' that this is being called a Carenado C172, which is the same as calling the Aerostar the A2A Aerostar, was my point. Unless I am also missing their point.

I wish I could understand that Mike!

I am loving the sounds as well. Really meaty and great quality.

Right.  You mean you fly to all the airports that have a restaurant on site.  Now I get it.

Then you pretend to have a virtual lunch or what, or just to see if they are worth going to in real life?

Yeah, I am not interested in career mode, this gives me a reason for a virtual flight, rather then just haphazardly flying from point to point or only flying in my local area.   Here is one for air museums and it is worldwide.

SimHangar (Mark) doesn't do many airplane reviews, but calls this plane "a true classic". I agree.

So sounds are not just aliased to the Asobo 172?

No, not at all.

The default C172 is a Lycoming 4-cylinder IO-360 with 180hp.

The model covered by this Carenado 172 is a Continental 6-cylinder O-300 with 145hp.

The 6-cylinder engine has been depicted really well.  It's really throaty, loud but smooth running, just as they are in real life.

KTVL to KRTS (a very short flight from Lake Tahoe to Reno Stead), both are asobo bespoke airports and both are over 4,000 feet high. With even higher mountain range in between. You aren't going to make it without keeping an eye on your mixture control (RPM  guage). And if there is wind the plane will really bounce around, much more than the Asobo Cessnas. These things make this plane fun to fly.

When I first saw this offering from Carenado I kinda poo-pooed it but I bought it anyway (yeah I know)

However...It's very good. I never expected to see a Carenado that had jumped the tracks and made a bid for freedom. 😂

I am really enjoying this aircraft.  Hopefully someday they release the 177 Cardinal.

I really thought I would pass on this one but good reviews by those I respect convinced me otherwise. I love it! I moved the camera forward just a little but nothing else needs changing - sounds are great and it's just a joy to fly, very stable and with some heft which is usually missing from Carenado aircraft. A great addition to my hangar, especially for the price.
