I fancy a short range airliner

but I would sure like a Caravan.

Then why don´t you buy the Payware version by Thranda?

You are welcome - granted, it wasn´t easy to find this plane, I had to employ a brand new technique called colloquially "googling" - it involves calling up a certain website and then adding keywords, which you need to come up with all by yourself.
After trying for a while I came up with the winning combination: "Cessna 208 X-Plane 12". I know, who would have thought of that? 😉

  • If you want short range and high fidelity and Not Just Another Twin Jet, it's hard to argue with the FJS Q400.  Personally, I'm holding off on the XC E Jets for their ERJ v2, which is getting tow

  • Loving this Caravan. Looks like I'm going to spend a lot of tome flying it around Central America.

  • There are "What aircraft would you like to see in X-Plane" threads over at the "other" forum frequently. They usually devolve into a "who can find the most outlier aircraft that no one ever heard abou

I’ll check into that for sure. I’ve already bought two addons beside the sim itself this week. I’ll see how much I can hide from the wife in one month😂

No, it's not. The freeware version of the 208 is not the one by Thranda.

Thranda's is here: https://store.x-plane.org/Cessna-208-Grand-Caravan-DGS-series-XP12-11_p_1586.html

Does anyone use the Cerenado Cessna 208 Caravan in XP12? It’s only XP11 in the store but I would sure like a Caravan.

Thranda has frequent sales. 🤙

An interesting idea as I don't have that aircraft.

NoJoe used to work for Thranda and is presently an IRL PC-12 pilot. He’s contributing to the Thranda project and there’s still more to come.

I’ve enjoyed the PC-12 so far.

that said, if you’re willing to consider the PC-12 as an airliner, I HIGHLY recommend you investigate the AFL King Air 350. Is one of my absolute favorites of all times across all sims.

Thank you. That’s exactly what I want. I’ll get it tomorrow. Yea ,the free Caravan looked like fs9 textures. Groping around XPlane world after three days with this amazing sim.

I'm with you unfortunately and regret having purchased ... Thankfully by the same time I purchased the XAviation cj 525 which was really rewarding...

Also have the BAe 146 but haven't had time to explore it.

Speaking of bushiness jets with airliner performance, XA CJ525 and HotStart Challenger 650 would be nice to look at too, although I didn't own them so far.

I have the XA CJ 525 🙂

I spend most of my simulator time flying GA but fancied a litter more range, speed and complexity. So the PC12 would fit my criteria nicely 😊

Oh, I didn’t mean to criticize at all - quite the opposite, in fact 🤙

the PC-12 and King Air are frequently used to move people - which makes them de facto airliners 😎

im recommending the King Air (and PC-12) for exactly the reasons you state: more speed, more range, and more complexity. But not TOO much 😁

I rarely fly airliners. Too much time to get set up and flying, too long watching the plane fly itself, etc, etc.

the mid-level commercial GA’s like the AFL King Air & TS CitationJet are a fantastic middle ground between pistons and highly complex glass cockpit biz jets and monster airliners.

in either, you can go from cold n dark to ready for take off in well under 10 mins, and have options to reach many thousands of more airports in beautiful locations around the world (I’ve spent way too much time in Intl Airports to enjoy ANY of them 😉).

I love the Caravan too, and Thranda's ability to create your own livery and set up of the dash gauges make it ten times more enjoyable. Can't go wrong with it, and if looking for a small GA their F33 is also just as fun.

As for king air, I'd recommend this freeware (update for default C90B)

https://forums.x-plane.org/files/file/89178-king-air-c90b-evo-g1000-blackhawk/

https://forums.x-plane.org/files/file/92114-king-air-c90b-evo-gns-blackhawk-xp12/

AFL.. while the system is better, still have quite some annoying bugs and the flight dynamic missing their own manual table by miles... and the devs are working hard on 737MAX so haven't update it for quiet a while..... If the C90 is good enough for you, I don't recommend spend money on AFL for now.

In some sense, modern airliner is easier to fly than some complex GA.... in KingAir, I sometimes forget to turn on/off anti-ices when entreating runway, forget to adjust pressurization system after take off or before descend, over shoot the engine torque, forget to arm the ignition... etc, etc...But these things are all automated in an A320...
