Then you go to major GA airports like yesterday landing at LECU in Spain and you see those trees with Martian Minecraft-style shapes in 2024 and you wonder if we all have the same simulator. 🤣

TIN trees suck everywhere.  Also in 2020.

I wish they'd figure out a way to replace those with regular trees.

I only have about 11 hours on the Baron 58TC, and already 2 failures.  The turn coordinator failed on my very first flight.  Nothing I could do in flight, and with my HSI and AI still functioning, I continued and landed without incident and "fixed" it once on the ground.  (Yes, I know I could "fix" it in the air, but where's the fun in that!)  On my latest flight I suddenly noticed the airspeed indicator stopped working.  Pitot heat was on, so I tried opening the alternate static source and sure enough, all was well again.  Checking the tablet for failures, it showed I indeed had a blocked static port.

Love these failures, as they really require you to keep a good scan going on longer flights when it's easy to get complacent and go into pure sightseeing mode.  This latest was late in a flight from Flagstaff, AZ to Van Horn, TX.

And just in case someone is curious - no, I don't think Black Square's failures are overdone, despite getting the luck of the draw and 2 failures on the new Baron.  I've got all my Black Square planes set to normal, 1x failures and among my 5 planes (Baron, Bonanza, TBM 850, and both Dukes) and quite a few cumulative hours, that was, I think, my 5th failure, with this one being the most flight-critical.  The others have been things like lights burning out and so forth.

In case it's not obvious, I just love this little fleet of Black Square aircraft.

This is what I like about the MTBF theory. It's super realistic to go 100's of hours with no failures and then get two on the same flight with a new airplane. You just never know these things are going to surprise you which is what makes these aircraft so rewarding to me.

I have been flying the normally aspirated BS Baron for about two weeks around most of the islands in the Caribbean. It's been a great experience (since I've figured out how to setup my Honeycomb Bravo for the BS Baron using spad.neXt), and I, too, love the attention to all the details. I've had to learn how to hot start the engines, which is cool how that is simulated.

Anyway, my biggest pet peeve: taking off and forgetting I have the pilot-side window down (because it's crazy hot in the Caribbean). That results in an immediate flight restart. 😞 Surely, having a window open shouldn't cause the aircraft to fail. I believe this is a MSFS issue, but still, what an annoyance.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to spending many hours flying the Baron.

Turn off crash damage.. I believe that fixes this. Anyway crash damage is pointless, you know if you crashed the plane, you don't need the screen going black.

Ditto 100%.  I always disable the crash damage in my sims.  I know when my landing was too rough haha.

I've now flown the Baron across the Gulf of Mexico (America?) from Jamaica to Cozumel then down through Panama to Columbia. A couple times when I've landed the engines stop when I reduce the throttle during taxi. I'm trying to determine if that is a mixture issue or something else.

My plan is now to fly over the Andes and land at various mountain airports along the way. Looks like I'm taking my normally aspirated Baron up to its service ceiling for some of these flights.

Still loving the Baron.

make sure the throttle stays over 1000 rpm. Reduce the prop the help manage the taxi speed.

This is what I do. Not an expert however.

That sounds unusual. The engine should keep running with the throttle at idle; if it quits, that would usually be an indication in a real aircraft that the idle adjustment is set too low. Maybe one way this could happen is if you didn't enrich the mixture in the descent?

Ever had a moose get on the runway?  Or deer?

I had to perform a go-around once at Mulino (4S9) here in Oregon due to deer on the runway, it's not at all uncommon on some of the small airfields in this area.

There's a thread about this on the Just Flight forum:

Nick from Black Square suggests it can be normal for the engines to quit at idle at high density altitudes. Was this the case for you?

I may have been above 4,000 when I landed.

There's a realllllly nice mod that came out for the Bonanza - same guy who did the old one I think...

Adds more realistic font and branding to the Bo!
