Would a Crystal Ultrawide be a waste with a RTX 4080?

Does one need a 5090 to power the Crystals?

When flying airliners (Fenix, iFly, etc.) at full resolution of the Pimax Crystal Light and medium to high settings in MSFS 2024, the utilization of my 5090 is at 100% and I get between 40-45 fps on large airports. I had a 5080 before, which was struggling in these scenarios. In less heavy GA aircraft, the 5080 was ok and I still got nice performance. But the Crystal Super has even higher resolution...

Got the super but even with a 4090 had to dumb way to much down. Returned it. Get a capable gpu first (5090)

I just had one for test i 14 days, my system 14900K + 4090. I only fly airliners Fenix and Inibuilds with my Varjo Aero. Efter a couple of days i gave up. Even a low settings it wasent posible to get proper PFS like in the Varjo.

There are many adjustment posibilities but i cant live with DLSS and low quality compared to my current TAA with nearly all sliders at MAX.

Claus

fs2024 has forveated rendering support built in so running the xtal super should be ok with decent image quality and performance.

I have a 4090 and was considering a Crystal Super.  I fly helicopters, generally way from cities.  I currently have a Quest 3 rendering at about 4K X 4K with DLSS (helps overcome video encoding artefacts).  I can go higher if I use fixed foveated rendering.  In theory, I should be able to run the Crystal Super; am I missing something?

This I my question too... rendering at 4412X4412 for my Pico 4.

Supposing it runs eye tracking, which I dont know.- Without eye tracking, as in my case with Quest 3, Foveaut rendering has its problems when trying to make focus in an instrument while looking outside from the cocpit , as in real life periphyerical vision allows.-

Xtal super has eye tracking so it’s true foveated rendering.

I don't know with SU4, but I have to reduce setting with my rtx 5090 to get quality and performance  as I want for my Pimax.  Simhanger did a good video about that. I agree with him.

Pimax are very optimistic with their recommandations.

I found this post on Pimax website is very telling:

https://pimax.com/blogs/blogs/benchmark-test-of-pimax-crystal-super-micro-oled-57-ppd-optical-engines-in-dcs-world

The bottom line is, the render resolution of Crystal Super 57ppd or OLED version is the same as Crystal Light, at ~44M pixels. That is a great news which means I can switch to Super OLED with no performance loss.

Super Ultrawide (50ppd?) however is 78M pixel total - over 70% more. Clearly not even worth a try with 4080 - I don't think my 5090 can make the cut without significant reduction of image quality.

Foveated rendering at 30% resolution and 50% coverage takes the Super down to around 32 million pixels.  Of course, there will be overheads for quad views, and the wider FOV means more triangles and more textures have to be processed.  There's also DLSS, sharpening, and dropping the refresh rate to 72 Hz.  Plus, there have been software optimisations that have delivered significant FPS gains compared with the early days, when people said the Super was fantastic with a 5090.  It also depends on what you like to fly and where you want to fly.  I look forward to somebody with a 4090 (or less) and Crystal Super putting it to the test; maybe I will have to be the first.
