C172 drifting to the right

Featured Replies

Not sure how long this has been going on since I mainly fly the Citation Longitude, but I went to take the C172 for a quick spin, and noticed it's constantly drifting to the right.  It starts as a gradual bank and just keeps going.  I re-cal'd my joystick, but no luck.  I just loaded up the Citation, and it doesn't do it with that plane.  Anyone else run into this issue?  If I kick on the AP, it's fine, but it makes hand flying very annoying.  Thanks!!

You don't say which sim 🙂 but assuming 2024 I just tried it and it seemed correct to me, are you sure it wasnt some weather setting?  I only observe the usual (and realistic) need for some right rudder after take off. Jet's are not a good comparison, you should check some other single engine prop.

The right drift, let's call it unrealistic (for cw rotating props) right tendencies, have also made their way into other FS 2024 prop aircraft.

I even joked about it because it's a bug that has plagued prop aircraft on my other sim since a while.

Since I can't access the the flight dynamics parameters for these aircraft (they're encrypted / cloud based) I couldn't investigate further if it was caused by some default rudder and /or aileron trim tab settings for countering the natural left turning / drifting tendencies...

I have long stopped using GA prop and helis in FS 2024... The only light aircraft I use are the gliders, and those are fine, propulsion wise, regarding the modelling of torque and slipstream effects 😁

I haven’t flown 172 since last year. It used to roll/yaw to the left! Did things change ?

Ah, thanks!  It's good to know it's not my joystick.  Too bad there is no rudder or aileron trim in the C172 (that I'm aware of).  I guess it's just something to deal with, but I enjoy the light jets, so maybe I'll just stick to those.  BTW, I'm still on 2020.

It has the left-turning tendency during the takeoff roll, which is somewhat realistic.  In this case, though, if I trim the plane for straight and level, and take my hand off the stick, the plane slowly drifts right indefinitely.  Like SD Flyer mentioned above, I guess it's just part of their flight model.

I believe that if you set keys / buttons for rudder and aileron trim, which is tricky to set in that abominable control settings & naming conventions interface that ASOBO designed, you are still able to set trim, but you will have no indication of the amount set 😕

Yes, they did some time along the SUs... Same with the Baron 58 and other props, not all...

Could be something related to the CFD model? Some exaggerated trim tab settings, which I can't confirm because I do not have access to the flight dynamics parameters file 😞

But I am very away from the sims since two weeks and until at least mid December, so, maybe they fixed iot in between ?

My 172 drifts to the right at cruise in the same way, which I find makes it a bit tricky when I look down to adjust the autopilot or the radios and GPS screens unless using autopilot.  having flown 152s and 172s in real life for years, I can confirm that this is not realistic at all.  It's something I can live with though, but just wanted to confirm that it's not only you and it can't be fixed without going into the aircraft CFG (which we can't).

I also have this problem.  I look down to check on something, then go back and I'm way off course.

I have a switch set on my flight yoke for left/right yaw but it does nothing.  Very aggravating.

Do you mean the Asobo C172?   Mine slightly goes to the left. Again something I dont understand as most of you have it fly right.

Eheheh... Just like in xp12 since mid 2024... In xp12 Austin already fixed it's fm internally but it hasn't yet made it's way into the betas...

My Asobo C172 pulls to the left depending on the amount of power am asking for.  At cruise, it is only slight.
