What I don't like about SU4

Featured Replies

I just read a post saying someone should say something negative about SU4. Here's my contribution... 🙂

Bought a new PC but wouldn't have had to if SU4 had been released before Black Friday.
SU4 could have saved me U$4000.

That sounds awesome.  Those x3d's really are crazy for msfs.  I had just bought my intel 12700K in 2021 right as the 5800x3d's came out...  the x3d was much better for msfs 2020 at the time.  I've got an RTX 4080 with 64GB ram as well and it's been a great card so far.

Someday I'll upgrade to a 6090 or whatever is next - I'm sure I'll have to take out a second mortgage to afford it LOL!

The more important question for those of us on the bubble considering upgrading is: what were your specs BEFORE you upgraded?

Strictly regarding MSFS2020/2024, from the i9 14900 KS to the 9800X3D, 64 GB RAM, RTX 4090, there is a significant positive difference with AMD. I wasn't sure about what people were saying and was afraid to spend the money on switching from Intel to AMD. I'm so happy that I did it, no regrets at all.

747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.

The SU4 update is the most impressive improvement for Flight Simulator that I have experienced! The most notable difference is the smooth performance with graphics at the highest settings plus the awesome experience flying at night!

Well, at least you're now Future Proofed.

CPU: AMD 9800X3D PBO MB +200 CO -25| Motherboard: MSI MAG X870e Tomahawk WiFi | GPU: MSI RTX 5090 Ventus 3X OC | RAM: G.Skill 2x32GB DDR5 6000 cas 30 | M.2 SSDs: Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2T, WD Black SN750  M.2 1T | Hard Drive: WD Black HDD 6T 7200 | Optical Drive: LG Bluray writer, internal | Cooling: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO | Case: Fractal Design Focus G | PSU: NZXT C1200 1200W

Win 11 Pro 64|HP Reverb G2 revised VR HMD|Asus 25" IPS 2K 60Hz monitor|Saitek X52 Pro & Peddles|TIR 5 (now retired)

My chief complaint is I have a hard time tearing myself away from 2024. It's freaking fabulous and stunningly gorgeous!  And I've been at this for over 30y!

Part of my exuberance comes from finding GSX is now working much better as well as BATC.  After a long period of NOT using BATC's traffic injection I've found it's now much better w/ regard to stuttering animations in AI traffic, so never used it, but it's much better now.  Self Loading Cargo continues to improve nicely as well it's just a fabulous piece of work!

One *simple* thing remains for me:  where the heck are simple Fly-By and Tower views?  I found ChasePlane way more than I wanted and did not like what it took to setup basic views--much more hassle than the uber simple Ctrl-Alt # we have in MSFS.  I've nudged its dev to consider a simple version just offering those two features and got no reply despite a couple efforts for them to look closely at this which I believe would have a huge market share compared to their uber complex ChasePlane.   In fact after installing CP for 2020 I essentially quit using 2020 and if they release the same type of product for 2024 I won't buy it it's just way too much for what I care about.

Not that it was introduced by SU4, but the fact that AI planes still float above the runway with no landing gear is crazy awful (considering how breathtaking and smooth everything else is).  It's the biggest buzz kill after a perfect flight to see planes hovering around off the ground.  Not all of them, and it is being discussed and to do with these LODs.

What's your TLOD at?  This is some I NEVER notice and I look for it now so wonder if it has something to do w/ using AutoFPS apps.   In fact I just looked closely at a BATC AI plane coming in at EGLL where I just landed with zero stutters of any kind, freaking unreal, or real as the case is  I have incredible resolution/sharpness and contrast and it's easy to see the gear/wheels down, or not if not.  TLOD I have fixed at 200 at a minimum.

I have the dynamic LOD app.

TLOD 250 at ground level up to 400 at altitude.
OLOD at 250.

I am very disappointed in the reliability of SU4!

I've not had a single problem and now must cope with flying airplanes rather than dealing with computer issues.  I am much better and happier with computer problems than airplane stuff.
