January 19Jan 19 Will there really be as many Tesla Optimus robots as people. Will this really be the product the company is remembered for? Best if we steer clear of our opinions of Musk and just stick to discussion regarding the tech. 🤔

January 19Jan 19 Me, several years ago: "What a fool Elon Musk is! He squandered all of his Paypal money on making electric automobiles. Bah, ha, ha. Edison tried to make Electric cars in 1910 for F sake. And many followed after, all have failed, he he. Me know: "hmm it looks like Tesla Corp is worth more in total assets than Ford and General Motors combined". 😕 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. January 19Jan 19 A billion Optimus robots? What will be left for people to do? Just enjoy ourselves living in homes built by Optimus, eating food processed by Optimus and getting fat and lazy sitting by the pool all day? What becomes of the intangible self worth a person gets working with his hands and his mind and many times both? I've built plastic model airplanes and radio controlled model airplanes. I've done flight simming and model railroading. I was a recreational pilot, wilderness hiker and backpacker. I loved fly fishing. I was a wildlife photographer and writer. You may have seen some of my photographs and read some of the stories I wrote right here on AVSIM several years ago. They were all fun but none of them gave me the satisfaction I got from working. It's a job and producing something of worth that makes life worth living. I'm afraid Optimus will take that away from most of us. I've been retired for 30+ years now. I enjoy myself. I like the people around me and the friends I've made in the retirement home. I have fun playing the games and participating in the crafts they have for us to do. And I still do a bit of writing. I'm fairly happy but I'm not satisfied. I'm not productive anymore. Nor will I ever be again. Don't let Optimus take our self worth away from us. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
January 20Jan 20 Does anyone else see the resemblance between Optimus and Gort. Brush up on your "Klaatu Barada Nikto." Gort Optimus BTW Noel, I think you are one of the most valued members here. So I see that as being productive for the other members here. Thank You! I've only been retired for a couple of years, but I do miss working at times. I'm a retired physical therapist and SCUBA instructor, I miss the human interaction. Edited January 20Jan 20 by tdflightsim Tom MAKA = Make America Kind Again

January 20Jan 20 The Optimus is fine. If he decides to make another one called Megatron......that is when we need to start worrying. January 20Jan 20 As usual, the robots main goal will be to glorify trinkets and sell them to humans in order to make money. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. One of my all time favorites that I've watched numerous times. Given how rapidly the technology is developing I have no doubt that robots will be commonplace, especially as the cost will drop. When you combine that with rapid advances in AI, and what will ultimately become AGI, science fiction will once again become reality. Hopefully not the version James Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd imagined.
January 20Jan 20 AI is already replacing customer service employees. As AI capability increases and improves, more humans will lose their jobs. Couple AI with robots and you'll see factory jobs being replaced, as many already have been with automation. These humanoid robots can emulate humans, and they will ultimately replace them in many fields. As an employer, why would I want to have to go through the arduous process of hiring a human, with all the special regulations and restrictions that entails nowadays, then have to train them, then have to pay them a high wage, then have to pay for their benefits and give them paid time off, then have to deal with them calling out sick or getting hurt on the job, then have to deal with them complaining or suing me, when I can just buy a robot and program it to do the job instead? Think about it. This will not be like other revolutions in the past, where carriage maker workers who lost their jobs due to the automobile were able to go on to get a job in an automobile factory, or some people got retrained to work on the automated machines in the plant when their tedious, repetitive, manual process got replaced by a machine. There won't be enough "coding" jobs to fill the gap. This is why some of the super-rich tech titans have talked about needing a universal basic income in the future.
