DLSS 4.5 Preset L Review: Nvidia's Most Advanced Upscaler?

I went for P.  Then when I came back I decided on Preset M.

4k Ultra settings locked at 30, with x2 framegen for 60 fps.

I really want FSR4 as I find FSR3 better than DLSS in most cases, but I do get prop spirals and shadow anomalies with FSR3 in MSFS.  There are some rumblings that these things are improved with FSR4.

Where did you cap your fps? in-sim, nvcp or rtss?

so after watching all these non-MSFS related game demos, what is your favorite preset for MSFS? 😃

no DLAA + DLSS for me because flying through clouds produces artifacts/ghosts, TAA + DLSS

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

I make sure everything is off inside NVidia control panel (use application settings), then use settings in sim only.  DLSS quality mode, frame cap 30, DLSS or FSR3 (can use either) then x2 frame generation.  Rock steady 60 fps.

This was in SU3 - perfect!  I was really happy with it.

Same in SU4 but now I have issues with LOD, scenery popping, and cockpit gauges loading slowly.  Hopefully they can fix a few of these issues in SU5.

So...  I have to admit I'm way behind the curve on this one but would love to try it.  Last time I checked into this I remember thinking how on earth could this be so "difficult" to set properly, etc...  It just seemed so kludgy like it is some new graphics tweak that takes a lot of fiddling.  That said, is there a clear, easy, simple way to implement things now?

The easiest way is to use the DLSS Swapper.

But DLSS Swapper only takes you to preset K.

You have to update to the latest version of the swapper, download the latest DLSS version files to it, and then everything will show.
You need to have a good look around the program.  It takes just a few minutes to understand it.

Just recently, new NVidia drivers have also been required to activate everything to show up in the swapper, but it works great.

Thank you so much for the heads-up and tip.  I downloaded the latest version and all good now.

The part I don't get about all of this is why we need a swapper, etc...  Shouldn't that just be something Nvidia puts in their driver settings?  Why does it have to be so convoluted/difficult with a 3rd party app?

I use to run MS2024 in VR mode with a Pimax C. Light headset, and after upgrading to the last NVidia Driver 591.86 and DLSS 310.53 in K preset, noticed a real improvement in image clarity with same FPS using dlss/quality at the sim settings.- I tried also L and M presets with all quality, performance and superperformance modes but returned to K/quality as is the best combination for me.- DLSS Swapper is really useful in managing that options.-

Be sure to find the "show text" box in DLSS Swapper settings (ship wheel icon at bottom left). Do a quick test. You may find that what you set in DLSS swapper is not what you are getting in the sim. That's what happened to me.

So I went back and chose the same settings but now I installed them in the correct order. That was the only difference. And now the text read that I actually what I had chosen in DLSS swapper was actually in the sim.

Not with the current Nvidia app. It is even possible that the nvapp overrides your swapper settings and you won't get the very recent dlss version (and its presets)

Can someone in this discussion point me to a good source(s) where I can garner a basic education of what is the needed software for the relatively new Swapping technology and how to implement it correctly, please and thank you.

tried M but that caused the cockpit popins when switching back from outside to cockpit view, trying L now which does not create that popping cockpit rendering
