Seconds long pauses in flight

Featured Replies

Alright, I give up. How the heck do I get rid of these *word not allowed* seconds long pauses while I am flying? Didn't have them before the SU5 update. Everything was pretty smooth before that. I have watched a lot of useless videos and nothing seems to address the problem. Anyone have any insight?

Only when flying? without doing nothing? Or maybe when you're panning the camera? how much time last those pauses? What about when you're in the ground?

Did this happen to you over open water or over land?

Just microstutters on the ground. In the air the pauses can last for 3-5 seconds or so. They happen while I'm just sitting there and when trying to switch views with chaseplane.

I rarely do overwater flights, so I'm not sure about that...

Do you have real-time traffic enabled?

Do you have real-time traffic enabled?

Just took a flight and checked. It was on, so I turned it off. It was better, but I still had some stutters and pauses. The flight before that earlier this afternoon they were constant towards the end.

What else are you loading with mafs (2024 ?)

Ive also had stutters since the update but no time to check yet.

Just load msfs vanilla to see if it's msfs or something else causing the stutters.

I’d strip it right back to vanilla first and test in steps. The fact that it got a bit better with real-time traffic off makes me think it may be traffic or another add-on spiking the sim rather than just raw FPS.

If it were mine, I’d try one short flight with an empty Community folder, all traffic off, and no ChasePlane. If that settles it, add things back one at a time, first ChasePlane, then traffic, then anything else you normally load. That usually finds the culprit a lot faster than changing random graphics settings.

If you have any mumudesign powerlines, solarfarms and/or marinas in your community folder, try disabling them. Many users including myself found them to be a significant cause of pauses and stutters since SU5. They were not an issue in SU4, so this is new.

I have noticed a few more stutters at times since the SU5 update. Clearing out some cache folders (Nvidia and DLSCache) seemed to improve the situation, but that could just have been a coincidence.

I had these annoying pauses weeks ago and found out, whenever it happened, I noticed increased disk usage / activity on my dedicated MSFS NVME in Task Manager. So I fitted a better performing NVME drive - all sorted. Slow SLC cache, occupied storage space is higher than 50%, PCIE lane, could affect performance of NVME's. This is what I found out on the internet. Easy enough to check on your issue and take it from there.

Good luck

Yes, but there was no such problem with SU4.

I understand, in my case the trigger was MSFS2024, never happened with 2020. Things just happen at some point and checking with Windows Task Manager is not rocket science, won't cost any money and is not time-consuming at all. I only pointed out how I solved an issue, very similar to OP's issue, on my end.

I've had flawless performance since SU5, until this morning flying into Brussels--lots of stutters and some long frames. I chalk it up to server overload which of course is just a guess.

Certainly would not be the first time.
The only other time this has happened to me is when an Acars addon kept trying to save a temp file at intervals during flight.
