I have an i7-1100K, 3080 and 32GB ram and honestly, going from 4K back down to 1080P has changed everything for me. After a few hours I didn't even recognize the lost resolution because I was so happy I could push the sliders and the LOD's MUCH higher than I ever could on 4K. Another drastic change for me was finally switching over to Windows 11 and essentially starting from scratch. Previously, I had years of files of both 2020 and 2024 and I believe doing a fresh start along with dropping in resolution finally gives me the sim experience I've been wanting. No hassles. Any plane. Any city. All the traffic. It just works now.

I think quite a few other users would be better off dropping the screen resolution down from 4K. The latter is part of the problem in many cases.

I would love to know more how you set this up: nvidia control panel or the app or how? Other settings to go with it? Thank you in advance.

I set DSR to 1.5x in the MSFS 2024 graphics menu. I also have TLOD @ 250 and OLOD @ 200. None of this 100/100 nonsense. I also have framerate set to Unlimited, and I do not bother checking the figures. Whilst I always fly in calm weather, I do generally use a Custom Scattered Clouds option that has three layers. I do not currently have animated AI planes active, but I do have static AI aircraft that are placed based on the AIG flightplans, and I have the entire database of AIG models and flightplans installed.

It's no use lowering resolution if you are mainthread limited. Yes you save VRAM and increase FPS but it doesn't stop mainthread being overloaded.

I tried a 2k monitor, and although I could maintain higher FPS, the stutters when you pan, were still there (for me).

The only way I can really get rid of these panning stutters on the ground, is to reduce TLOD to less than 100 or use autoFPS to do it dynamically.

As I lock my frames to 30 and use FG, higher fps to me, is irrelevant, as I can maintain a raw 35 to 40 FPS in the Fenix and Heathrow in 4K (In 2k, that goes up to nearer 70fps). My monitor is also a 60Hz screen.

With a 4090 in 4K and most settings on ultra, (apart from texture res on high), my VRAM usage is at about 17 to 18 GB at a major detailed airport with the fenix, in 2K that drops to less than 12GB, but it doesn't necessarily translate to better performance for me, at least.

And that's with TAA or DLSS? I don't remember having read that from you, but maybe I missed it.

Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. Running P3D v5.4 (with v4.5 scenery objects as an additional library, just in case), FSX-SE, MSFS2020, MSFS2024 and even FS9! Lossless Scaling for all my sims. What a godsend...

Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). Running FS9 there .

VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Left + GNX THQ as primary controllers. Xbox Series X|S wireless controller as standby/mobile.

I run native 5120 x 2160. Used to have two screens at 4K, this ultrawide is probably the best hardware I ever bought for a flight sim.

Mine - DLSS quality setting, 4k, 30fps to 60 with FG, all on highest settings except clouds on high. LODs at 200 each.
The limit of my monitor is 4k, 60 fps, so I might as well run up to it.
Instruments are nice and sharp at these native settings, but they are a bit blurry at 2k, even with lots of sharpening, maybe because its a 32 inch screen, so no 2k for me.

No real problems losing frames or stuttering either at these settings, especially since Asobo's optimisations, and the PC runs cool and quiet.

The only thing I don't like now is the LOD popping issues when changing views.
I ran FSX / P3D at 4k , and I don't have to lower it for any other title, so please nobody tell me I need to nerf my settings to run MSFS!
Plus this was all good before SU4 anyway. Still hoping they can tweak these LOD issues out. If I could go back to SU3 I would, it was perfect for me.

I use TAA (which is SSAA for any DSR enhanced resolutions), but I think that there is also a separate setting for DLSS.

Up to now with testing very happy with 3x 4K / 5090

But if needed I would lower the resolution for the side screens to 2560x1440

In my experience every resolution outside the native monitor resolution hurts the eyes. At least if you are below the native resolution. I run my monitors at 1440 with 120Hz and 60 FPS (Amd FSR) on my 8 GB 3070

Both LOD around 100, no problems at all
