This outage is with XBOX online services and is impacting many different titles (not just MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024). There is nothing the MSFS team can do except wait for the XBOX support staff (who are working on it right now) to resolve the issue and restore normal service.

And so maybe that's why I've had no problems starting MSFS 2024 today because I purchased from Steam.

Nope. That will not be it at all. Steam or Xbox/MS store doesn't make a difference when connecting to the MS servers.
Mine is through Steam as well and I'm on the West Coast of N. America and have had ZERO issues starting and running the sim today or yesterday.
