I want to buy the whole package but I do not have the drive space. Please tell me, if I bought the package would I be able to install just USA and EU and wait on the rest? IOW, is it modular like that?

Yes, all continents are individual packages.

I'm on edge getting this, just wondering is the FPS hit still huge, like in testing versions? If it is, we need to disable certain layers to achieve FPS like in old freeware X-WORLD?

Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

Initial feedback that I've been seeing is that the framerate hit is not significantly different from X-World.

I've purchased the bundle package and have them all downloaded but haven't had a chance to install them just yet. I'll probably start by loading a couple of my favourite airports in Canada with X-World America active and check out my framerate then replace X-World America with X-World Pro America and repeat to compare framerates.

Also tempted to try turning off all of my orthos to see if I like what I see without adding the additional overhead to my scenery.

@UrgentSiesta , are these houses american enough for you?

Also note the missing roads. Missing data (in the DSFs) seems to be prevalent in the initial X-World release, as there are no highrises as well.

Layer 05 Details is a FPS hog. I've also disabled the smoke stack effects, the 3D people and the railway cars on shunting yards. After that, FPS were around the same as with X-World 3.0.

I've tried that with the test scenery, but wasn't convinced. You still have many of Laminar's default textures, no matter how many polys you drape over it.

A marked improvement. 👍However, these are largely what we refer to as “Cape Cods”, and are prevalent in the NE. But most houses in the US are single/2- story “ranch” / patio homes.

I’ll grab a screenie of SFD Global next time I’m in so you can see what I’m talking about.

I’m going to be desperately disappointed if that’s what I see in a jungle village in Nicaragua. I’ve downloaded the world pack but haven’t installed yet.

No need. I'm already having a hard time caring because the discussion has now definitely crossed into (barely warranted) nitpicking territory. 🤐

Hint: You can override any object assignments with a library that runs on top of the original library. So if you want Cape Cods at Freedomville, but Euro-Style brick stuff at Barbecueport on the next terrain tile, you can simply cook yourself up a library.txt with region definitions that assigns your desired style of houses to the corresponding, underlying DSF file. Put it on top of X-World and voilà, your favourite style of houses where you want them.

Well, if you didn’t care you wouldn’t keep posting about it…?

Its hardly nitpicking if I can get superior results from a 6 year old product.

And I’m not going to apologize for living in a HUGE country where there a wide variety of architectural styles

Now that XW is going payware, it’s certainly fair game for constructive criticism, which is all I’m sharing.

Feel free to try to convince SimHeaven to implement better building objects, but I do not think you will have a lot of success, because SFD is a dead product and a Next Gen Scenery is not too far away, which means a new shuffle to the entire deck.

The only way for you to get your dream buildings is doing the library thing I've outlined above. I bet SFD brings its own library, so all you do is edit library.txt to also point all relevant objects in there to the equivalent DSF path used by X-World. Something like:

EXPORT /lib/global8/us/ind_sq_60_30r.obj objects/SFD/mysuperduperSFDhouse.obj
EXPORT	simheaven/houses/house_20x30x3.obj objects/SFD/mysuperduperSFDhouse.obj

As long as the modified SFD library has higher priority than X-World's in scenery_packs, you should see SFD's objects instead of X-World's.

This has been done before for X-World 3.0, btw:

Here's SFD Global. A good match to the IRL neigborhood home architecture:

Here's the same street in X-Americas (current freeware version):

Ignoring the lack of trees, there should be zero doubt why I (presently) prefer SFDG.

Thanks, will do this if I buy it. But still unsure what I'm getting comparing to old freeware X-WORLD? Except, and quite possibly updated all sorts of data, what else I'm getting? Will it place proper forests and many trees in towns and cities, unlike Global Forests v2? I'm not going into nitpicking the differences, but trying to determine if is it worth getting.

I find, outside of Europe especially, very little improvement over the older version and certainly not worth $35.

What's worse, many residential areas outside Europe as well are just rows of houses with nothing but grass and parkinglots of grass.

The developer has yet to respond to a support ticket.

Outside Europe, there is an issue with residential roads which the developers are aware of and actively attempting to resolve.
