I don't mind, as long as we don't start saying 'I could care less'. 😡

Ugh. As a Canadian, I sometimes hear "zee," but for the most part, I think the great majority of Canadians say "zed." I sure do.

Bathroom when in my house or relatives or friends. Out in public, the norm here is either restroom, lavatory, or my favorite
"little boy's room". (although, the last one seems a bit ominous) 🤔

My guess is after breaking off from Great Briton, saying toilet, water closet, or pee station seemed a little gauche.

In Italian, the toilet, water closet, lavatory, etc. is "bagno", which literally means bath. So Americans aren't the only ones who refer to it as a "bath" room.

Another minor irritation is the imported reluctance to use the word "died" to describe the end of a life.

Monty Python's parrot sketch captured this perfectly: "pining for the fjords" and "bereft of life, it rests in peace."

So you've not heard. "I'm in the bog!" 😁

It irritates me that English people have started saying, can I GET a coffee, instead of can I HAVE.

I know Americans speak that way but I've no idea why we have to copy.

And why is solder, pronounced Sodder? Sodder sounds a bit risky to me. 🤔

And why is box section called square tubing.

I'm guilty of sometimes saying "get" in that context as well.

BTW, does anyone say "may" I have any more? It is actually incorrect grammar to say "can I" when asking for something. I had an English teacher who used to drill that into our heads daily. If a student asked "can I have xxxxx?", she would say "I don't know, can you?".

In America, four overlords roam the back country.

  1. Bobcat

  2. Mountain lion

  3. Lynx

  4. Ocelot

I have never heard mountain lions called pumas or cougars. They will follow backpackers in Yosemite or anywhere in the Sierras for miles, snarling all the way. Unlike bears which will run away if you chuck a pinecone at them.

Yeah Dave. I do most of the time. May I have...? May I sit here? May I get you something? But I confess to saying 'Can I......' sometimes. Usually depends on who I'm with.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.
