Frame Generation for VR is here now.

Featured Replies

It is an app that sits in your taskbar and has the settings there as well.

EDIT: The mod is here: https://github.com/djules75/OFXR-Bridge/releases/tag/0.2.8.1

Nope

Running OFXR Bridge on a Meta Quest 3 paired with an Nvidia GPU in Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) offers a substantial performance boost. Early community testing confirms that it provides a massive headroom advantage, often doubling perceived frame rates with far fewer visual artifacts than traditional Quest Link/Virtual Desktop space warp techniques.

To dial in your setup for a perfectly smooth flight, apply these configuration steps and optimization tips:

⚙️ Core Configuration Workflow

  1. Choose Your Connection & Runtime:

    • If using Virtual Desktop (Wireless), set your OpenXR runtime to VDXR inside the Virtual Desktop Streamer app to completely bypass SteamVR for optimal performance.

    • If using a Link Cable, ensure Meta Horizon Link is set as your default OpenXR runtime.

  2. Arm the Bridge: Download the latest release from the official repository, open the app on your desktop, and make sure to click "Arm Bridge" from your Windows taskbar tray before starting your flight.

    • Note: If Windows Defender flags the latest download as a false positive trojan (Sabsik), community members note this is common for experimental API layers; you can safely scan it with a secondary tool like Bitdefender or whitelist the directory if you choose to proceed.

  3. Lock the Ratios: Set your Quest 3 headset to an 80 Hz refresh rate. In the MSFS in-game VR graphics settings, set the Max Frame Rate to 40 FPS. This gives OFXR Bridge a perfectly stable baseline to generate the intermediate frames and lock you to a smooth 80 FPS.

The comments seem mixed on the video. Here is the "Issues" page at github. Only 2 feedbacks, both really neagative but some positive feedback on Steve's video. This mod decreases my fps but it can be clicked off in the taskbar to go back to normal.

nothing new, I have had this already a year ago in VR, and it was running stable. remember Nvidia Smooth motion in Nvidia app?

Copilot Search:

NVIDIA Smooth Motion is a driver-based AI feature that generates additional frames between rendered frames to deliver smoother gameplay and higher perceived frame rates.

What It Is

NVIDIA Smooth Motion is a frame generation technology built into NVIDIA drivers that uses AI to interpolate an extra frame between two existing frames. This enhances motion clarity and can nearly double the perceived frame rate in supported games, improving the smoothness of gameplay without requiring native higher FPS custhelp.comcusthelp.com+2. It is particularly useful for games that do not support DLSS Frame Generation.

How It Works

The technology analyzes previously rendered frames to track moving pixels and predict the next frame. The AI then generates an interpolated frame, effectively increasing the frame rate and reducing motion blur. The smoother motion is most noticeable in fast-moving scenes, and the quality depends on the original frame rate: higher native FPS results in fewer artifacts and lower latency SlashGear+1.

Compatibility

  • Initially launched for GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, NVIDIA Smooth Motion is now available for RTX 40 Series GPUs with the latest NVIDIA app and Game Ready Driver updates NVIDIANVIDIA.

  • It supports DirectX 11, DirectX 12, and Vulkan games.

  • Older GPUs, such as RTX 30 Series or earlier, cannot use NVIDIA’s official Smooth Motion and must rely on third-party tools like Lossless Scaling SlashGear.

Performance and Usage

  • Smooth Motion can be applied to games running at native resolution, with super-resolution technologies, or other scaling techniques custhelp.comcusthelp.com+1.

  • Benchmarks show that enabling Smooth Motion can nearly double frame rates in some titles, for example, increasing Spider-Man 2 from 65 FPS to 115 FPS at 4K PC GuidePC Guide.

  • The feature also activates a Low Latency Mode to minimize input lag, works with VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), and generally produces fewer visual artifacts compared to similar technologies like AMD’s AFMF or third-party frame interpolation tools DSOGamingDSOGaming+1.

Is that Fork just for Pimax users then? as it states SteamVR is unchanged, I've been using the original here;
https://github.com/tig3rmast3r/OFXR-Bridge/releases

Works well but it's no miracle FPS increase for me, the image is certainly smoother though so I'll keep it installed for now.

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

Ok just tried that Fork with my Pico3 and it's a jittery mess, whilst the FPS number does go higher than the original the head movements are nowhere near smooth enough. The original seems to be far better for me but again not a big improvement over default, perhaps it needs a Pico3 dedicated Fork to help it work better.

Hi Marc. Did you tried to restart the SIM AND the Bridge as well?
I got this jitter issues when leaving my sim running and switching between those two "bridges". There are at least two of them.

I got superior results with this version from the link:

Link to googledrive for OPENFrameGen Bridge
and the Brdige from Github here:

Read here (copied from MSFS Forum):
Hi guys i have a special version for MFSF2024, is the new version (0.3.0) of OFXR i’m working on that uses a completely different approach for frame pacing.
While this is not ready yet for other games it works like a charm in MFSF2024, on my pc it bumped from 80 to 100 fps.
Just download 0.2.1 and then replace the dll inside the folder with this one.
I’m posting it here cause is the only game with no issues and we tried on both quest3 and sboys3, let me know how it goes
this forum wont allow me to post links maybe because i’ve just joined ?
remove the dot at beginning

In sim FPS Limitter to OFF
No smooth motion or SSW active (I am at Pimax)
ResizeBar ON
and
Optical Flow BAckend at Fast (or medium works as well)
Resolution in the Bridge at 50%

Butter Smooth at my end (5090RTX and 9900X3D)
Pimax QLED 50PPD at full native resolution
AutoFPS at TLOD 80 - 200
AutoFPS OLOD at 100

No difference, doesn't matter if I restart everything. I'm not seeing any difference with that other DLL either, seems the original fork is best for me currently. I'll certainly try any future releases/forks though so will keep man eye on developments 🙂

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Ok so a day of playing around with it in various Sims and MSFS2024 doesn't work that great with it unless I chose AMD FSR 4.1 & the Quality setting, then it seems to work until there are huge drops in FPS and it gets all stuttery for a little bit before returning to 90fps. That and the blurry Garmin screens are a personal "no go", so I'll just have to wait and see if future versions improve and/or Asobo actually do some meaningful optimisation (not holding my breath on that one!).

Without this mod I'm running the Sim just about decent enough at 40+ FPS, which is just fine for flying, but I was hoping those big airports/cities would get a boost with this mod but it doesn't want to play ball with my preference of TAA. Even lowering SteamVR Resolution doesn't appear to have that much of an effect, so perhaps my hunch about a specific Pico3 branch is the only way for me (which lets face it won't happen, there's not many of us using this HMD anymore).

Other Sims it's just fine, works like a charm and has allowed me to Max out settings which is awesome, just not here.

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

I tried both the releases, and found the 0.2.8.1 version works best with my Dream Air SE. I'm running it with its stock settings, MSFS fps limit to 36 (half the DA SE frequency), and the sboys3 driver. I must say this: This produces BY FAR the best VR MSFS experience I've ever had, period. Smooth...the sense of flight in VR is so much more pronounced when it's so smooth. There are seldom FPS bumps which cause stutters on purposefully very brisk turns, but overall this far surpasses anything else I've tried in my VR flight experiences in MSFS. Now, yet another .exe I need to start up when priming a MSFS session...worth it!!!
