  1. As a real-world pilot, I am very familiar with proper landing procedures - problem is that this particular challenge is so bugged that doing it right simply does not work! The correct way to do this landing would be to land uphill at the beginning of the runway, main wheels first with a close-to-three-pointer attitude. I have tried this countless times. It either does not register or I don't even get enough points for a Bronze. The way I demonstrated in the video is the ONLY reliable way to get anything close to the points needed for Gold. Landing it stalled with the tail first tends to give a better chance of not jumping the crest of the hill as you go downhill while still keeping high enough "soft landing" points, even though you can land MUCH gentler and get 0 points for it (which just confirms the bugginess of this challenge). Like Bobsk8 said, a lot of challenges require other-than-normal procedures that would not really be done in real life. But that's part of the fun of the game/sim (whatever you wanna call it).
  2. I finally beat the Gold on the Maule Landing Challenge 4!! Probably tried a hundred times and it's all buggy as hell, but I did it! http://www.youtube.c...ed/vMx3RZDXpmw
  3. I've been a member of Avsim since back in the 90's, and was very familiar with Staggerwing (his real name escapes me at the moment). Is he still around??
  4. Frankly, this doesn't surprise me at all. Russian aircraft are especially known for their unreliability. In fact, as much as I truly love flying, I will never step on board a Russian aircraft if I don't have to. POS planes, if you ask me. But maybe nobody is asking haha. Sorry if I offended anyone... I just get sick and tired of hearing about how Russian aircraft and certain nationality foreign operators can't seem to maintain basic reliability and their planes are constantly crashing, killing thousands. I don't normally agree with how the government operates, but I do have to commend United States' and Europes regulations that keep their planes so reliable and safe. It's just stupid that so many planes are crashing unnecessarily. Sometimes it really is just an accident, but just the fact that hearing about a Russian aircraft crashing doesn't surprise me at all is kind of worrisome, don't you think? As a real-world pilot, I don't think about dying when I fly, but I swear if I had to fly a Chinese airline or a Russian aircraft (just for examples), I really, honestly would want to have all my stuff in order and be hoping we made it to the other side... on earth, not somewhere else.
  5. Actually the "24k gold plated" stuff is just standard "gold" plating. I work on so many biz-jets, and almost all of them have this same treatment. Nothing special! :) His jet really isnt different from other business jets - just bigger.
  6. I tried it with the Zero... still doesnt work.
  7. Maxter is spot on for what I would want :) Maybe a PC-12 too.
  8. I've reported what y'all are having issues with to the developers - I too think a lot of the lighting, while on the right track, needs adjustments.
  9. Not sure where but looks like Hawaii to me
  10. You can also see hints that helicopters will come - one example is landing pads on ships.
  11. Go to the following directory:C:Users*YOUR NAME*AppDataLocalMicrosoftFlightPlayersF43EC2FEA2F6EF89CareerControls(F43EC2FEA2F6EF89 - this number will be unique to you, it will not match my copy/paste above, but it should be the only alphanumeric folder in the Players folder)Open the "standard" file.Scroll down slightly past halfway down, look for this:<SimControls.Map> <MapName>Logitech Extreme 3D{AB6DA570-6D82-11DF-8001-444553540000}.{45AAD43A-A9BC-40E0-96BA-A3E3577BBE53}</MapName> <MapVersion>6</MapVersion> <Axis> <AxName>XAxis</AxName> <Index>0</Index> <EventName>FlightControls.AileronSetAxis</EventName> <AxScale>0.900000</AxScale> <AxNull>0.200000</AxNull> </Axis> <Axis> <AxName>YAxis</AxName> <Index>1</Index> <EventName>FlightControls.ElevatorSetAxis</EventName> <AxScale>0.900000</AxScale> <AxNull>0.200000</AxNull> </Axis> <Axis> <AxName>RzAxis</AxName> <Index>5</Index> <EventName>FlightControls.RudderSetAxis</EventName> <AxScale>0.900000</AxScale> <AxNull>0.400000</AxNull> </Axis> <Axis> <AxName>Slider</AxName> <Index>6</Index> <EventName>Engine.ThrottleSetAxis</EventName> <AxScale>1.000000</AxScale>The joystick name will match what your joystick is. Change the AxScale for sensitivity, from 1.0 (fully sensitive) down to 0.0~01. Change AxNull to adjust null zone, again from 1.0 (zero null) down to 0.0~01. The above numbers are my personal settings. I was fine with the sensitivity for the most part - just took them down a notch. I added an amount of null to all axis' because my joystick is a little bit loose, especially in the rudder.Try the above settings and see if that fixes it for ya. You may want to mess with the rudder null zone - I have a lot of looseness in my joystick rudder and I needed that much null to eliminate inadvertent movements from the rudder input. Same for roll and pitch, just not nearly as much so.Hope this helps!
  12. Have any of you tweakers found a way to adjust control sensitivity through the files, sinces theres no option to so do in-game?
  13. I work for an aircraft detailing company in Colorado. This is almost identical to our procedures for washing ANG F-16's, except we do them indoors. Cool stuff to see how the airlines do it!
  14. Hmm cop got my vehicle wrong on my speeding ticket. Identified it as a motorcycle when it's actually a car. Hope my lawyer can get it dismissed on that basis!

  15. Ariel annoys me... she actually makes me almost not wanna watch the show at all.
  16. Had a truly wonderful Christmas with my family. For the first time in my life, I feel completely satisfied and happy. My beautiful wife, my perfect son, and my in-laws making me feel like a very loved part of their family.

  17. Its amazing how much, as a parent (a deaf one, at that), you "hear" your child cry when he is, in fact, sound asleep... lol

  18. Lol future dogfights huh? Dots on screens and button-mashing, is what I would assume it to be like.
  19. This might be a converting sim for me - *might* being the key word. I've never really liked the physics of X-Plane all that much. Will certainly give it a try though.
  20. Looks like that thing has better build quality than the real thing...
  21. Word of advice to y'all: never rent in an apartment complex with three floors unless you don't mind walking a considerable distance because you can't find any parking when you come home late.

  22. Actually I have taken off as a flight of two in two Piper Arrows, and I was the wing man. On takeoff, I got behind the lead for a moment, and really got beat around - so small GA planes do create wake turbulence.
  23. Nice interior - but what a horrible paint scheme! Would think a design a little more artsy or creative would be used...

    Really?

I wandered over to www.therealcockpit.com to satisfy my curiosity as to how much a C172 sim cockpit would cost from them. I was absolutely shocked to find out that a full panel/control set plus the cabin mock-up cost no less than $71,000. Seventy-One Thousand!! Just to compare how much that is, look at all these REAL airplanes you can buy for that much: http://www.controller.com/list/list.aspx?bcatid=13&DidSearch=1&EID=1&LP=CNT&setype=1&ETID=1&mdlx=Contains&PT=70000&SO=15&btnSearch=Search True, I know that you can't always compare the real deal because the ongoing costs are much, MUCH higher than the sim - but shoot, there's a beautiful Aeronca Chief 11BC for only $16,800. That leaves you no less than $54,200 for all possible fuel, maintenance, insurance, storage, and any other misc costs. Maybe I'm making a useless rant, but really, people - how much more ridiculous can you be? $71,000 for a Cessna simulator? Sounds like youre trying to follow in real-world aviation's footsteps: overprice everything as much as you possibly can. Yes, its a beautiful piece of equipment that I would LOVE to own, but I would be stupid to buy that when I could own a very real aircraft and have enough left over to cover all costs for at least a couple years. Wow...
