  1. I think part of the issue for the Developers would be the fact that we're working with some buggy tools to start with :(
  2. I see some very good replies to Jay's post here. I agree with Kurt...if you were to get involved in the 'process' I think you would come away with a different view.
  3. I tend to favor the idea of keeping the gallery, and it would seem to me that you ought to be able to link to gallery pics in the screenshot forum...like this!Would this not be the best of both worlds? :(
  4. Personally, I have never been a fan of the post counter (or ranking systems) at all on any forum. Other than telling you how many times somebody has hit 'add post' it really tells you nothing helpful about the poster. I have always associated 'rank' as a position earned by deed and not by sheer number of postings.I vote for no ranking system :(
  5. I think that as long as you have the FS9 version (and key) you should be able to get the FSX installer for free. Just realize that it's the FS9 model adjusted to work in FSX SP-1. From the FSD site... "If you own our Piper Saratoga, Cessna 337, Cessna 02A, Pilatus Porter version 2, Piper Navajo version2 or Piper Seneca V version 2, your aircraft is supported for FS X. Special installers are already available that will install custom FS X file sets properly into the new version of the simulator. You can access download link utility programs for these titles from our Files & Installation page."Oh, and the site is working again...
  6. Depending on how willing you are to wait you might want to consider holding out for the fully SP-2 compliant version. I'm currently working on converting & upgrading the Seneca, and my guess is that I will also get the Saratoga to do since there is some commonality between the two airframes. The reason I suggest you might want to wait is that I am fairly certain that the full FSX SP-2 version will not be a free upgrade.
  7. Bill aka Lionheart Creations :-)
  8. I'd be willing to bet you are parked near a refueling area. It's a known issue that I've experienced, and I have seen it discussed in other forums. After I moved the plane away from the fueling area normal operation returned. There is no answer to the problem that I know of.
  9. If I remember correctly, this bridge was not done as default scenery! That's why I made one...http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?Location=AVSIM&Proto=file&ImageID=43544PM me here if you have questions, as I doubt the e-mail in the readme is current.
  10. The vc is a big thing for me. This is the clock from one of my current projects...The housing & knobs are 3-d, but the actual clock is done using the traditional vc gauge method. The artwork was created by modeling the dial in Gmax, then taking a screen capture and doing some minor editing in PaintShop Pro to get the final bitmap for the gauge. There are many variations in use these days, including actually modeling & animating all of the hands! This pic was taken at a zoom of x2...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/192696.jpg
  11. Actually, the FSX exporter tools allow for a much better 3-d vc for those willing to put in the effort. There are many different ways to create vc's, and I won't go into all of the details suffice to say that now the tools exist to create the smallest details and still have good performance. One of the big changes in FSX has to do with the fact that the number of polygons a model has does not affect the framerate performance like it used to. Now the big factor is texture usage in the model, and something known as 'draw calls'. Taking advantage of all of this takes a fair amount of time & effort to not only learn about, but then execute. So ultimately it's a question of what the modeler is satisfied with. I've seen some incredible work lately in various designer forums. :-)
  12. I just go into the Options->Settings->Display. In the graphics section check/uncheck the light bloom setting and hit okay. All 'on the fly' :D
  13. Just a minor clarification...one of the entries is "N2056's Pete". That plane is available here as pete.zip, it is a modernized Pietenpol Aircamper that my Dad & I built many years ago.
  14. If the plane was built using the FS9 tools it can be done with the fix you describe. If it was built using the FSX tools (any SDK version) it's not possible.
  15. Understand that I have nothing to do with those decisions. Also understand that up until recently there were only 3 people in the group, and they have day jobs. I'm sorry you gave up on us...there will be some nice FSX stuff rolling out soon. In addition to the Commander work is in progress on upgraded versions of the Navajo & Seneca that will have all the features available in FSX.
  16. There is a lot going on at FSD these days. The true FSX Commander is about to get it's avionics installed, and they recently brought in some help to work on upgrading the fleet to be true FSX models, and then help with future products. My understanding is that the Jetstar is #2 for takeoff behind the Commander.
  17. Dean, you might want to consider something here...Irregardless of whether or not your post is considered an advertisement your replies here concern me as a potential customer in terms of what I might expect in terms of customer service. I work for a couple of publishers, and I am very careful about what I post & how I word it. Remember that you are representing your business with every post you make. Starting out here like this won't sell, at least not to me.The model is fantastic. Keep up the good work!
  18. Well, I'd have to say that your efforts (and a few others) have not been in vain, as there have been a few things I learned reading this thread.
  19. Uhhh...not sure what I'm missing here. Apples & Oranges maybe?
  20. I had the good fortune of being able to attend the Avsim conference held in San Diego a few years ago. I attended the lecture put on by the Microsoft group. It was a really good presentation, and featured many pics of the then upcoming FSX, although at the time they could not 'confirm or deny' they were from FSX. The biggest thing I took away from it was the fact that FS in any form could easily bring pretty much any system out there to it's knees when maxed out.I've known that for a long time. I read endless posts by people trying to achieve FS 'Nirvana'. My feeling is that you will not. You might get close, but the program is capable of humbling any hardware out there. It always has, and probably always will. Like it or not, that's how it is.Personally, having followed the program from day one, I am thrilled that I am able to reasonably run FSX, and even better is the fact that I have been able to recreate planes that have been (and are) a part of my life. I rarely see a post that expresses a basic appreciation for the fact that we can do this at all. As such, I say thanks to the people at Microsoft that have given me so much satisfaction for many years!
  21. Rick Piper, Tim 'Piglet' Conrad, and who knows how many others! You guys know full well what you do, and have no intention of changing. THAT is why the thread is a waste of time.
  22. Ed, I only make that comment because the opposition has already stated they won't remove it. At some point you have to realize when an argument has become a waste of time. These guys don't care what you think-they just want you to think they do. At this point we are probably just cheap entertainment to them...Robert
  23. Rick gets plenty of publicity without your 'help'. Sounds to me like what you want is the exact situation you already have...which is wrong.Out of curiosity I downloaded this plane and installed it. During the installation you have to agree to this...Copyright and Distibution:This aircraft is released as limited Freeware. with the below conditions.Copyright © Rick Piper. Wanting to reach an 'agreement' at this point is laughable. That should have happened first! Frankly it is obvious that your group is going to continue this practice regardless of what anyone here thinks. I see no value in continuing this thread...moderator?
  24. Flightsim.com uses the same group. It also has affected the forums at The Old Hanger...here's a link to the company's forum (which oddly enough is working!) where more info can be had.http://forums.theplanet.com/index.php?showtopic=90185
