  1. This is just a thought on the observation that all of the stock planes are mipped...:( The stock planes are also used as AI planes, and mips would be useful there. All I know is what I have experienced while building models. Mip maps always look bad, so I choose not to use them.
  2. I have always tended to gauge my experience on what I see & feel, and not what that counter is telling me :(
  3. I'm unsure what you mean by 'level flight'. Do you mean that when the plane is flying level (i.e. VSI = 0) that it looks like it is pointing nose down?
  4. Do you use a headset for anything on your computer? That happened to me once...then I realized that the ATC sounds were playing through my headset I had been using online the night before! :(
  5. The BD-5 was almost successful. It was one of the early 'kit' planes in the 70's, and quite a few were built. I think it died because of difficulties getting engines. That is also how the jet version came to be iirc. There are still prop versions around, but I think there were only a few jets ever made. The Coors's "Silver Bullet" was an airshow regular for a period of time.
  6. It would be helpful if you could post your system specs :(
  7. Because those files are 'stock' with the program they cannot legally be shared. I do not understand why you cannot just retrieve them from your copy of the program. It really is an easy thing to do.
  8. I pulled my post as I fear it would be seen as advertising. I would have removed it completely, but I don't see that option.
  9. I'm dying to know how you add content to an X-Box game :(
  10. Bob,I'm very sorry to hear this news. While we have never communicated before that does not mean that I cannot offer good thoughts & prayers your way as you start this journey. I hope that all turns out well.
  11. I'm saying that for a given model...not many people buy every plane that is sold. Frankly, I do think that the add-on buyers are a relatively small percentage of the total number of people that buy the program. Nobody I know is getting rich doing this. I would never consider doing it full-time :(
  12. Volume sales don't really exist like that in the add-on world. In fact, the market is pretty small. While I certainly won't profess to be an expert regarding sales, in the course of many conversations with fellow developers my understanding is that if you can sell 5,000 units of a model it is a blockbuster! Most numbers tend to be well below that.
  13. The gallery has been offline all week. I am guessing that had something to do with the technical difficulties that occurred last weekend. The forums have been restored, but I'm wondering what the plans are regarding the gallery, which is currently offline.

    Sad but true

I started this hobby with the original version played on an Apple IIe...and have owned every iteration of the program since.I tend to be a realist. I take what is and work with it. What I see happening was correctly predicted not long ago in the forums here. PC games are dying. It's business plain & simple...and I would be willing to bet (and I'm not that type) that the next (if any) version is going to play on your x-box. I'm truly sorry to see so much talent be cast to the wind because of the 'bottom line'. :( That said, there is a lot that can be done with what we have now. Personally I intend to work on improving what is, and not what could have been.
  15. Mike, the airsraft.cfg file describes the physical arrangement of the tanks. How that fuel is used is controlled by a gauge for 2d panels (can also be used in the VC), or an animated part in the VC.
  16. Guys,I've not posted until now for a few reasons. First off, understand that I am new to the group. I started doing work for FSD back in May primarily to convert existing models to true FSX versions. Up until now my involvement in the Commander was very limited and consisted of comments regarding the visual model due to the fact that I have projects ongoing. Our new gallery here shows many pictures of what I am doing. This plane underwent a pretty extensive amount of testing. It would not have been released unless we felt it was ready. Know that your concerns have been noted by the group, and work is already underway on an update. It would really be helpful to us if you could contact us regarding problems via our support forum. To date there has been one post there about the Commander, and that individual was able to resolve his install issue on his own. Here's my offer... I'm willing to maintain a dialogue with you if you are willing to be civil. That is fair. I'll tell you up front that I do not run the ship, but as a team member I very much want to see the customer get a good product along with the rest of the group. What say you?
  17. Well, the cat finally figured out how to get out of the bag...It has promise, but there is not much there! I'll wait to see how long it takes to start filling in those huge empty spaces :(
  18. For those of you that have not discovered it yet, there is a Gallery section that is devoted to Commercial groups. The link is in the grey bar toward the top of your screen. I have been unable to post pictures for a long time as I became a member of FSD several months ago, and I have been careful to follow the rules here. Now at last there is a place at Avsim that I can easily share with you the things that I have been working on, along with some good stuff being done by others in the group. There are also other entities getting started in the galleries, and I think it's worth keeping an eye on! :( http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?autocom=gallery
  19. Dave, try adding this to your aircraft.cfg file...[altimeters]altimeter.0 = 1altimeter.1 = 1
  20. In this case I'm afraid there is no solution. It has to do with the way that the VC texture is mapped to the panel. You can't change it without the source files.
  21. The alpha in the specular map controls the specular effect, not the reflection. I'd suggest staying with this over at ffds as there is a good section on materials there :(
  22. Al, transparency & shine are both controlled by the alpha layer in the texture. You can have one or the other, but not both. It's time to start cutting...Looks like you have a good start :(
  23. While I only work in FSX I can appreciate the fact that FS9 will be around for a long time. Bill does too, and he is trying to market product for both versions. He's wondering if a better compiler is possible. I thought this forum was intended to be a place to help each other out... :(
