  1. FSBUILD (www.fsbuild.com) creates realistic flight plans that can be imported into the FMC as well as FSX.- John
  2. Here is a link to info about the fan blades in fsx. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/67104-visual-spinning-of-jet-engine-fan-blades/page__fromsearch__1
  3. Strangely enough, you must have the VC turned on for the doors to open. If you have turned off the VC, no doors open. I don't know why this is.- John
  4. Hi Pete,I don't see this in the PMDG add-on livery site. Is it available somewhere? Thanks,John
  5. Simple question. Will the NGX have airstairs as an option, like the FS9 version does now? It's a handy feature with airports that don't use jetways... KBUR, PHKO, etc...Thanks,John
  6. Do you load the aircraft from a cold Cessna, or from a saved flight? There have been reports in the past of deflected control surfaces when loading the plane from a saved flight, rather than a fresh cold Cessna.Just a thought.- John
  7. Do you have the VC enabled? if not, you can't open the doors. Not sure why it's been this way, but when I disable the VC, no doors. With VC enabled, doors open.- John
  8. Try loading up a "cold and dark" Cessna. From there load the 747. This fixed it for others, and it's a good "best practice" anyway.- John
  9. If you have disabled the virtual cockpit via the config manager, the doors don't work. If the virtual cockpit is enabled, then, not sure.- John
  10. Your FMC shows a couple discontinuities. This may be the issue as well.- John
  11. I discovered and reported this problem (at least it seems like the same thing) back when the 747 was only available for FS9, prior to FSX. The message lies somewhere with an old forum. Check to see if your engine anti-ice switches are on at landing. If so, turn them OFF prior to landing. What I think happened was that the engine anti-ice would slightly increase the idle of the engines, thus causing them not to go completely idle at landing, and thus, not allowing your reverse thrusters to stay deployed. You can easily test this on the ground. Start all 4 engines, turn on engine anti-ice, and hit and hold F2 for reverse thrurst. If it doesn't stay on, then turn off engine anti-ice, and try again. If reverse thrust stays on, then that's the problem.Good luck.John

  13. Not sure if this is it, but in the PMDG wiki, it lists the following. Read down to see the issue with black smoke coming from the engines:Known Problems Within FSXPMDG 747-400 fails to reloadFSX has a problem in the way it loads custom animations for the visual models. PMDG relies heavily on custom animations in order to do everything from flaps and slats to allowing users to de-select the winglets or open and close the cargo nose of the 747-400F. For this reason, the PMDG 747-400 is susceptible to a quirky fault within FSX that is generally relatively easy to avoid: If you have selected a PMDG 747-400X, then re-enter the aircraft selection menu and select a PMDG 747-400X of the same engine type, you MIGHT trigger this quirky little bug in FSX, and the PMDG 747-400 will fail to load properly and be unflyable within the simulator. If this happens, simply close the sim and start over again. We identified this failing to Microsoft but there simply wasn
  14. Are you loading the A/C from a fresh cold and dark Cessna, or from a saved situation? I recall a while back, that some strange issues like this happened with the A/C was loaded from a saved situation. I may be wrong.- John
  15. I setup a cold and dark Cesna (at KSEA) as my default flight. That way, any add-on A/C that I load (PMDG, LevelD, etc..) gets loaded as cold and dark from get go. In addition, I save a panel state for the 747 with cold and dark settings, and load it after the A/C loads. It has always worked well for me.- John
  16. Hi Richard,I believe SHIFT-BACKSPACE will lower you down, and SHIFT-ENTER will raise you up vertically. These are FSX commands, and there's a whole bunch that can be found in the FSX help area. - John
  17. I had this situation with my quad core when I first got it. I heard from a reliable source that FSX doesn't play nice with all quad cores, so I changed the affinity mask in FSX.cfg to only use 3 of my 4 cores. Once I did that, I was smooth sailing. To test, add the following to the fsx.cfg under the [JOBSCHEDULER] tag:AFFINITYMASK=7This will force FSX to only use three cores. It worked for me.- JohnFSX SP2Windows XP SP3 32bit
  18. During taxi, or after landing? No, the adv animations are only under FSX.- John
  19. Hi Michael,I see the spoilers shimmy on the 747x normally. Both in the FS9 version, and the FSX version. It happens in flight, and upon landing. I thought PMDG built it in, as it looks pretty cool. I didn't know it wasn't supposed to happen. Strange... John
  20. Here's a link to a very old thread where we discussed this. Read through it all.http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtop...p=0entry0John
  21. >Hi,>>for the second time in a row about 8 hours in my long haul>flight I suddenly do not get the usual sequence of views in>FSX. I have to press A>then Shift-A to get the 2D panel back.>It stays like this for the rest of the flight.>Any ideas if this is FSX, or PMDG or something else?>>>XanderThis is an FSX "feature." It happens every time I fly long haul over water, or other areas where there are no airports. As you get close to your destination, it comes back.- John
  22. >As the title says really. Just wondered if anyone uses a>traffic addon, or is it just too much of a drain on>performance to run with the 747-400?>>I've been looking at MyTrafficX from Aerosoft. 24. >In the 747X, after about an hour of flying something weird>happens. My wing view and tower view just go away. So the>only views i have left are the cockpit and spot. Well i>switch from spot to cockpit, and there is no panel there! I>select wing view from "views" but it just goes back to my two>old views, spot and cockpit with no panel. Ive tried>everything...and nothing. Im running vista 64bit.This happens to me regularly about 2 hours into a long flight. After you cycle the "S" key, and see the panelless screen, simply look out the left or right window, and the panel will magically reappear. This happens with PMDG, and LevelD (and perhaps others). The strange thing is that it fixes itself around the time descent starts. Just standard procedure for me these days. It has happened in all iterations of FSX, and with all service packs.Probably just an undocumented feature! :-lolI'm currently on FSX SP2, XP SP3.- John
