  1. Hi All, Decided to try the affinity program on my core 2 duo. Ran my default flight EGPF to EGGD with Level-D 767,UK2000 scenery, all settings maxed and 8xSQ.Plus Radar Contact Observations were; Frames stayed constant at 30 Locked. (normally dips into low to mid twenties when on ground or close to airport) Sim seemed noticably smoother and more enjoyable. Finally a check of task manager showed both cores sharing the load equally,Something I have never seen before. As most will see as a simmer of over 9 years, and an almost dailly reader I make few posts. However I think in this instance this program requires further investigation. Also as someone who has used FSX for several years,I can honestly say that my last test flight was my most enjoyable flight ever. Garry Leeds UK.
  2. Yes I Have these great freeware textures, using DXT 512X512.Seems the 8800GT is not up to displaying 8xS AA,looks like a raid into the piggy bank.
  3. Hi all, Have been using FS9 for a long time and it runs just fine on my current system. However recently used nvidia inspector to up my AA from 8X AA to 8X+S, must admit the graphics have never looked so good, but add in a few clouds and frames drop from 30+ in vc (level-D, PMDG etc)to high teens at best, mid teens normally at UK2000 scenery. When AA was at 8XAA I never experienced this problem.Question is would an upgrade to a new generation graphics card improve thingsor is this an FS9 coding issue. Thanks in advance, arthur.System Specs: Asus P5K,Intel E6750 OCd to 3.2G,8800GT graphics, 2GB ram
  4. Have to second this,an absolutely amazing enhancement for Radar Contact. I also struggled with the install,so downloaded with the links provided by Nick and installed manually. Tried my first flight last night and had a grin from ear to ear,it makes an excellent addon even better.Once again Nick many thanks for what must have taken a huge amount of time and effort and if ever an upload deserved an avsim gold star award this is it. Off to backup my new files, these are too good to lose. G.Minto
  5. Yes same problem here, tried the fix but just seeing errors.Sure would appreciate a dummies guide to installing these files. Thanks in advance, arthurplum
  6. >What I see there is just another "anti-M$" trolling attempt as we've seen so often from the slashdot kiddos and those who think it would be "kewl" to be one. That makes you (like all trolls) a kid, mentally if maybe not physically.Looks like the mod's have all left town. Garry Minto. UK.

Hi Rob,Have been doing a little research this evening, running in heavy clouds framerate starts to yoyo from a locked 30 to as low as 10fps though stays mainly in the low 20's.Switching to windowed mode gives a slight improvement but the fluctuations are still evident.Running filemon shows nothing out of the ordinary.Looks as though we have a Gremlin in the mix, and where he is I don't know.Noticed you are running ATI graphics and I'm with Nvidia so not so sure its a driver issue.Have to agree with you on the performance of the core2duo in fs9.I upgraded from a P4 3.4G 7600gt graphics and the performance increase is mindblowing, the P4 is now on internet duties.Previously could only fly the 2D panel of complex airliners due to performance limitations but since I built this new machine have flown only from the VC, and for me personally flightsim satisfaction has gone up several notches.Hope someone can nail this cloud issue,in the meantime all the best. Hi all,Same problem here.Built a new system about 6 weeks back spec's as;Asus P5k mbE6750 dual core2Gb Geil high performance memoryNvidia PNY 8600GTS graphicsCorsair HX620w psuHitachi deskstar 160Gb sata2 HDWindows XP.Asus 20.1 inch monitor at 1400x1050Runs FS9 like a dream, frames locked at 30,flying PMDG or Level-d into complex addon airports from the VC, no drop in frames or stuttering.Throw in some heavy detailed clouds anywhere, and frames are all over the place with stuttering.Situation rectified by ticking the simple clouds box and were back at 30FPS.Seems almost bizarre that such a small change in visual display quality can have such dramatic results, but hey this is flightsim.Back to head scratching mode. all the best. Garry EGNM.
  9. Just a thought, I had similar problems with my new build, spec's below.Isolated the problem to the detailed clouds setting.Switched to simple clouds and frames stay locked at 30 with pmdg and detailed addon airports. It would appear that detailed 3d clouds with high AA and screen resolutions, can cause some systems a lot of grief.Hope this helps. As a footnote FS9 absoluteley screams on this new rig, after upgrading from a P4 system.Never imagined the pleasure I'd get landing the level-dat Heathrow chock full of AI and all as smooth as butter. 10. Another excellent freeware edition for FS9.Many thanks to the author of this quality project. As a flightsim, FS9 is not only alive and well, but getting stronger by the day.Keep up the good work,I along with thousands of others trully appreciate your efforts, and the efforts of all freeware authors. To everyone who visits Avsim have a Merry Christmas and Happy 2008. Garry. in the UK.

Hi AllMention of this a few weeks back,I was having the same problem.IT was suggested that the installation of FSConnect.dll in the modules folder by a third party program could cause the problem.I removed FSConnect.dll (you must remember to backup first)and problem wassolved. Hope this helps and thanks to the member who first suggested this fix.All the best, Garry UK.

  13. Had a similar problem with stutters and poor frame rates when on the ground with AI traffic.Ran filemon and saw that FS9 was constantly requesting effects files for AI traffic that were missing from my effects folder. Replaced the missing files, and magic, stutters gone, frame rates back to 28FPS,one happy pilot grateful to filemon. arthurplum UKP4 3.4G1024 mb ram7600GT graphics120Gb sata HD
  14. Count me in also, FS9 runs just great on my machine with all its fine addons. Tried the FSX demo,it ran like a sack of dead mice.So thanks to microsoft for the demo, saved me a fistful of UK pounds. Happy landings all. Arthurplum. P4 3.4G 120Gb sata HD 1024 mb ram Nvidia 7600GT graphics
  15. Three Cheers for avsim. Arthurplum.
  16. I too am staying with FS9, And I too would like to see a forum for previous flightsim versions.I could not imagine that Microsoft would release a demo that would notshow their own product in its best light.Tried the FSX demo for 10 days, would it run Ok on my rig? Afraid not. The only positive thing I can report,is my headache is gone after uninstalling. So its back to FS9 with all its high quality addons and fluid sim ratesWill I ever buy FSX,sure hope so,but only when it runs ok on 'Joe Averages' setup.Anyway here's hoping FSX doesn't turn into the Titanic of the flightsim world. 17. P4 3.2Asus P4P800 m/board6600GT Graphics 128mb1024 mb DDRHi all,As you will see from my specs I have a 128mb graphics card and althoughFS9 runs ok I thought I could improve things with a newer 256mb card. I like many others am still running an AGP based system that I cannot afford to replace for some time,so purely with FS9 in mind is there a benefit to be gained with a graphics upgrade,to a 7600GT,7800GS etc.Has anyone been there /done that. Also what about putting in another Gb of ram.Grateful for any feedback. Arthurplum
  18. Hi all,Quite new to rc4,but almost everything seems to be going fine.Just having the one problem and that is on arrival at the destination airport I only have a 50/50 chance of being allocated the same runway as Ai traffic.Often have aircraft taking-off towards me on touchdown. Have the latest fsuipc 3.617 (registered) and I am running on a wide fs setup. Have set the Tcas range from 40 to 0.Tried using with and without Ai smooth.Have landed at airports with single and multiple runwaysFor weather using Fsmeteo with pre-downloaded weather. This minor irritation seems to be spoiling what is possibly one of my best fs addons.I wonder if this is unique to me, with my advancing years I find that the blindingly obvious sometimes slips through my net. Hope someone may be able to shine a light on where I may be going wrong. Happy flying Rc4 users. Arthurplum.
  19. P4,3.2G1024mb 3200 Ram6600gt O/C graphics120G sata HD Just an update fella's. Had another month of FS9 tinkering and it looks pretty good. Thanks again to all who volunteered suggestions, most of which were very helpful. Thought I would share a couple of ideas that gave the greatest performance improvements for me. (1) Removed norton internet security suite (what a resource hog that is). Replaced with free zone-alarm firewall and avast antivirus. (2) Best improvement of all was to install Ken Salter's FS-Autostart.So just like to say many thanks Ken,and to anyone not using this free utility, check it out , its brilliant. O! almost forgot, did purchase the Level-D 767 a week ago,its just amazing,in fact its that good the wife is citing it in the divorce. Happy flying fella's, Arthurplum.
  20. Thanks guys for the response, and special thanks to Koorby for many excellent suggestions, some of which I had never even considered. Not had a lot of time to experiment but briefly, Disabled antivirus and many unneeded firewall settings,(still require firewall for online weather etc).Reduced visibility as per Koorby's suggestions.Chosen simple clouds and reduced draw distance and 3D percentage.Disabled several programmes running from start up that are not required. Fired up the PMDG 737 and flew into the excellent EGNM scenery from Gary Summons with weather courtesy of fsMeteo.Result- noticable improvement in fps, up from 12-18 fps,to a satisfying 21-27 fps and almost as smooth as fs2002.Now looking forward to trying a few more suggestions, and installing that ever so tempting LDS767 in the near future.Once again many thanks, you've made my day. arthurplum.
  21. P4,3.2G1024mb 3200 Ram6600gt O/C graphics120G sata HDHi guys, new here but been simming 3 years now, so 6 months ago decided to join the rest and upgrade to fs9. Straight from the box I was impressed with the improvements,so decided to set up the same as fs2002. As I fly mainly online (vatsim)or to practise T/o,landing,sid,stars etc, I disable ATC and AI traffic.Set the remainder of the sliders between medium and full add on the pmdg 737,UK2000 scenery, and FSmeteo weather. Now in fs8 this configuration never drops below high 20's fps (locked at 30)addon squawkbox and at a busy online airport may see low 20's fps but at all times stays smooth. Move over to fs9 (again locked at 30) frames in the air good still smooth, land and taxi at same local regional airport EGNM frames now between 12 and 18 and smooth simulation is replaced by a choppy jerky ride and a not too impressed pilot.Addon squawkbox and frames nosedive to an unusable 4fps if another couple of aircraft appear. Have spent the last 6 months trying to get fs9 to run smooth but with little success, have altered sliders, the cfg file, different addon aircraft but cannot recreate that silky smooth sim that was fs8.Out of the box fs9 great, put in a few addons (which I imagine all who read these forums have)and the frustration begins.I still fly online as often as possible but only with fs8. Reflecting back over the last 6 months i think is it me, or is it my set up or configuration, I suspect not. I would love to buy the LDS767 but not when my sim runs like this, maybe one day I can afforda super computer and run fs9 silky smooth, but until then happy landings flight simmers and take care. arthurplum
