  1. They make it sound like they're doing the pilots a favor. That's the rate of pay per the contract. It's not a gift. Management screwed the pooch and they're trying to make themselves look magnanimous.
  2. The union is following the contract that the company agreed to. Scheduling has been an ongoing problem with the "new" American Airlines. Management has repeatedly screwed it up and then wants to violate the contract to fix the issue. This is typical Doug Parker. They'll work it out.
  3. I wonder what regional of US Airways Express had 717's? I worked for the mainline carrier for 36 years and wasn't aware that they had any.
  4. I could be wrong but I think that 707's and maybe even DC-8's didn't have APU's and required an air start.
  5. I've marshalled on powerbacks on DC-9's, 727's and even a Saab340 but the worst was a 737-200. He was blocked in by an inop GPU and we didn't use pushbacks, so in the interest of try to get the flight out in a timely manner, I asked the captain if he wanted to try a powerback. He said sure. Well, once he opened the thrust reversers and added power, the aircraft backed up but it also peeled up asphalt as it went. It made a huge mess which we spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning up. Fortunately, management never found out what I had done.
  6. The only time the engines were started at the gate is when the aircraft required and airstart due to the APU being inop or if the APU generator was inop and they needed the ground power to start. In either case, they would start one engine at the gate and the second one after pushback. Under normal conditions, the engines were started during pushback from the APU.
  7. At DFW, we were encouraged to hook up the air and electric as soon as the aircraft was chocked and the engines were shut down. That way they could shut the APU down. They would restart it again a few minutes before departure. It didn't always happen that way but that was the procedure.
  8. It's the last one on this page. https://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=Southwest+heart&CatID=fsxacrp&Go=Search
  9. Is this the livery you're looking for? I downloaded off of Avsim and used the PMDG Control Center to install it.
  10. Are you sure the FSX version won't work?

    Navigraph

I don't believe that P3D uses Navigraph data. Many of the addons used with it do.
  12. Better get your flights in Ron. Looks like Island Air is closing the doors. http://mauinow.com/2017/11/09/island-air-to-shut-down-after-37-years-of-service/?t=1510279708
  13. Yes, Their installers allow you to install to P3Dv4. I don't know that they've done anything with dynamic lighting but they do work.
  14. Somewhere on the application will be a question, "Are you willing to relocate?". Check yes even if you won't. If you check no, your application will end up in the circular file. At some point in your airline career you may have to answer that question in reality. The airline business is very cyclical and closely tied to the economy. I spent the first 24 years of my career in Cleveland. I saw a lot of people come and go due to layoffs and displacement. I figured after 24 years I was probably pretty safe where I was. 9/11 changed all of that and in 2003 my job was outsourced. I had the option to stay and work for the contract company at a significant pay cut or transfer. That's how I ended up at DFW. In 36+ years I was laid off twice and went through four mergers which are never pretty. I enjoyed my career and made a good living but as with any job, it has its ups and downs.
  15. Sean, I worked with guys smashing bags that were taking home $100k. Granted that was with working overtime. The rampers were making more than the station manager. Top out for Fleet Service at American (after 11 years) is $30/hr. United is right around the same as is Delta and Southwest. I have friends in Central Load Planning @DFW who top out at $37\hr. You do have to pay your dues though.
  16. Get a job with a major airline. Most of them have been hiring. Do not hire with a subcontractor unless you want to work for low pay and little to no benefits. I spent 36 years working for a major airline. Most of it was spent on the ramp but I also worked operations and ticket counter\gates. I retired in 2016. I started in 1979 in CLE and retired at DFW. I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have. It can be a good living although it has changed a lot from when I started. Expect to work nights with days off during the week. Plan on working holidays for the first few years. You'll be at the bottom of the food chain so you'll get the worst of everything.

    MD-11

Nope, but there is going to be one for XP11.
  18. PMDG 737/747/777, iFly 737, FSL A320, TFDI 717. I haven't bought the upgrade for the Majestic Dash 8 yet.
  19. Shoot. That doesn't even happen in the real world. If I had a dollar for every time I had to stop a push for a vehicle failing to yield, I could have retired five years earlier.
  20. He was still flying when I retired in January of 2016. He had a Piedmont tattoo on his shoulder. He was hilarious. He used to stand on the jetway greeting passengers with fake buck teeth.
  21. There was a pilot who flew 734's for most of his career but had to transition to the Airbus when the 737's were retired, he was an ex Piedmont old timer. We knew him by the name of Buddy. Is he still flying?
  22. Are you former US? I retired in 2016 after 36 years with US. Most of it on the ramp.
  23. I believe it was REX Simulations. It was part of their Worldwide Airport HD addon. It has not been updated for P3D 4.1 as of yet.
