  1. Ah I now see what you mean! Yes, I guess if you go more to the LEFT of the LOC then the turn becomes slightly smaller/easier. The user manual talks about this. Throw in a nice crosswind say 200/20 and you get a huge push as you go round the corner, so you have to stamp on that right rudder. Awsome fun. It's always different.
  2. Yeah when you got many many traffic files, the only way to do it is one by one. :D Tip: Make copies of each one you change. So you can have eg. Cathay_VHHH and Cathay_VHHX if you need to swap back to CLK Airport then you still have the traffic for there. Just always have one with renamed extension so it's not running.
  3. Go on put FS9 back. From FSX, it's an upgrade. :-)
  4. Wow that's intense. I guess some pilots liked to take the turn late and hard to give themselves a longer straight bit to the runway.
  5. That's strange, what aircraft are you using. I've flown hundreds of approaches with the PMDG mostly and she doesn't need more than 25 degrees when done correctly.PS, you shouldn't be on the Autopilot when in the turn. Your turn should be hand flown.
  6. NO ONE can land an airliner based on FS knowledge alone. This comes up all the time. The answer is always NO, ok. Too many things FS does NOT simulate - turbulence, wind effects, control responsiveness, throttle responsiveness, fear, apprehension, workload, emotion... People still somehow believe this pipe dream - that cause they've flown many hours in the PMDG they could land a Boeing, but I tell you it's just that. A dream.
  7. The reason such a program is hard to find/does not exist is probably the legality issues in reverse engineering scenery for FS.
  8. The instant replay in FS9 is very buggy and should not be used. Try the FS Recorder Module (http://www.fs-recorder.net/) a very small module for better playback results.
  9. My Core2 Octo 4.5Ghz is just too slow and the 8Gb Ram needs upgrading.
  10. To be honest, I've never felt comfortable with the GEX Grand Canyon. It just looks like a big truck came along and dumped sand over the whole thing. In those shots the WWW version looks way better IMHO.
  11. I wouldn't say "Killed" but definitely seriously "shaken up". I have FSX. It runs and performs great. But it just bores me. Cartoonish autogen and textures. There's nothing in FSX that I can't currently do/see in FS9 with superb fidelity. I hope all the GEX, FEX, REX will sort that out but for now I stay put very happily. I do think there's a lot of denial in simming right now! (and not the river in Egypt...)
  12. I really think by the time you pick through and back everything up and copy here and copy there, you may as well reinstall the whole thing plus addons. I found this with FS9. It's far easier to take the hit and reinstall it all. The only sure fire way IMHO.merry xmas
  13. That grinding noise sounds to me like the stick shaker which means you're stalling eg going too slow in climb. I think you need to set up your FMC properly and run through a tutorial to see what you're doing wrong. It's usually the silliest of things we overlook.
  14. One of my favourite planes ever. If they release for FSX that's good news.
  15. Old 80's Cathay livery and the RR soundset, infact all the new soundsets, are sublime! That take-off spool up is pure heaven!
  16. Finally FSX can move out of "Cartoon-world".
  17. Glows like that are done using little deck textures. It's a visual trick. A little transparent circular texture laid over the deck around the light.
  18. Well here's a strange discovery - my framerates DOUBLE when I pause the sim (VC, TrackIR). Even when I push up the sliders. I do not recall ever seeing this happen in any FSX or FS9 aircraft. I thought FPS is unrelated to whether the sim is moving or not, correct me if I am wrong. Can anyone else replicate this ? I get 10 in motion, 20 when paused.
  19. Yeah I will try all those tree and autogen tweaks again and see what the result is. I 'm sure I can get an improvement by digging further into the tweaks. It just seems too low right now.
  20. XP, Ryan. I'll keep playing with it here and see what i can do. Strange.
  21. I am getting framerates under 10 in the VC which kind of makes it unplayable for me. I was wondering if anyone else is seeing heavier framerate hits than normal. OK, granted this is FSX and everything will be more resource hungry but I thought the VC would be a little better running. The FSX VC doesn't appear much different to the FS9 version which performs great. I've done a fresh FSX install with SP1, same result. (TrackIR, Clear skies on the runway at Friday Harbour used).
  22. I installed Cloud9 Xclass for the whole world and haven't seen a sand patch since. Best landclass out there I reckon.
  23. The beeps are indeed the Middle and Inner Markers. Quite normal to hear them although you can turn the audio off on most radios stacks. They are simply an audible alert to tell the pilot where he/she is on the approach in the crucial final moments when his/her eyes are more on the runway than on the instruments.
  24. That's quite a deal you're doing there. Nice one Bryan. Have to pick that up I think.
  25. I liken it to a banana. You know how the banana ripens from that chewy greenish phase into the the poper yellow phase where it tastes good. Well some people are having it green and liking it. Others are finding it hard to get the skin off and the top bends and you get a messed up banana and that's not pleasant. But if you buy a green one and wait, it will go yellow soon. (sorry I see this question too much so thought I'd answer a different way).
