  1. I thought that with the new i7 build in my sig I could move to FSX permanently. How wrong I was. I still find myself on FS9 100%. FSX does run much better and is playable in dense areas but still has not enough going for heavy payware jet simmers at major airports. Out in the hills, for VFR flying it is stunning. It stands alone as the sim of choice. But in the cities when in the jets - no way. FS9 is still the heavy jet sim.I think this split will always be there.
  2. I had the same issue recently and whilst I agree with the line of thought that all modern motherboards have pretty decent sound on board, I tried this with my new build and had some small glitches and interference (particularly noticeable as I use headphones).I then threw in my old SBLive 5.1 and happy days. So while I agree that the cycle difference on the CPU would be negligible, I do believe that if you let a dedicated card do the job it's supposed to do then your system will be better for it.For now I am keeping mine in as any overheads caused by it are certainly not evident from here. In other games like FP Shooters (not that I play that many) the card makes abig difference. But for general simming I agree your on board sound is more than enough.
  3. You place a FIX on the airport beacon using the FIX page and call up 3 mile radius. Nice video.
  4. I have never understood the big deal about AES either. But I'll look into it.
  5. The textures on the Blueprint sceneries, in my opinion, need to be better to justify as full payware. However the price they charge is not that exorbitant. The FSX users will no doubt like a KBOS I would think. If you are going to release a product - any product - you need to firstly make sure it fits a gap in the market. I think any payware company that does not do this will struggle. Add to the mix a Global Recession and well you don't need me to lecture...
  6. That got me too. Now I just hit Z twice. FYI Same for the Autothrottle, press twice.
  7. For me on a similar setup;FS9 runs like a dream for me. It smokes anything thrown at it.FSX is good, away from cities doing VFR, but mild stuttering and graphical glitches now and then. I'm afraid to say FSX is still not appealing enough for me to pursue a serious go at it with heavy aircraft. One day I might overclock and see what that does.
  8. Agree with Alan. 2 disk setup is good. One fast drive dedicated to FS. The other carved up C, D, E for OS, Apps, other... etc All your FS Apps, as you say, can go on the WideFS'd laptop.
  9. Build your own. For your info, the spec in my sig gives meFS9. 60fps+ everywhere, liquid framerates into the biggest airports like LAX and LHRFSX. Pretty good if I stay away from the cities. As a guide, PMDG 747 Virtual cockpit + Fly Tampa Kai Tak IGS13 approach = 15fpsI play FS9 99% anyway and it's heaven.
  10. Are you saying it doesn't Pause? Or it doesn't descend ?For descent you must ensure you are in PROF mode and you see PROF TO X,000 on the PFD. It caught me out a few times also. Dial in your lower Alt and press PROF. Not right-click ,or you'll go into a VSpeed mode.
  11. I must say that my W7 x64 + FS9 experience has been nothing short of perfect. I never got any of the problems you mentioned. It runs like a dream for me. But this new rig I have is helping also. FSX is a different story though, some work is needed there, but I think video drivers are not mature enough on W7 yet.
  12. I can now safely say that I share Arklight's view on FS9/X with Core i7.FS9 is like liquid now. 50-60 fps going into Heathrow with the PMDG MD11 + TrackIR + FS2Crew. It's like a dream. Definitely the preferred sim for me as a heavy jet man.If on the other hand I want to kick back and fly some GA in the hills, the FSX is the place to be. But not for airliners. Still no chance of that I am afraid.
  13. Bryan,Good to have the forum back.I finally bought the PMDG MD11 + FS2Crew and I must congratulate you on a superb product. You really nailed it this time. The integration between the two products is perfect and flows beautifully. The aircraft is of course a masterpiece but you have finished it off perfectly. After a few hairy moments on the learning curve (mainly involving climb thrust and slats timing) I can now fly the thing flawlessly from A to B and happily report zero, that's zero technical problems.
  14. I have just upgraded. I expected to migrate fully to FSX but FSX is STILL not smooth enough to get the performance I expected. As a heavy system jet flyer (PMDG etc) I can now fly into Heathrow or FT Kai Tak on FS9 with 50+ fps and not one jerk/stutter. It's a divine experience and taken 6 years to get to "liquid" frame rates. In FSX I can do this at both these airports but it's at 15 fps not 50. I could never even attempt it on FSX before the upgrade. I think I will resign to using both sims for different things - FS9 for heavy and FSX for trundling around VFR. Since I mainly fly heavy I'll probably see FS9 used more and that's the way it will stay.
  15. So has anyone else tried it on RC 7100 ?I am experiencing mixed results with my GTX285 + 185.85 WHQL. Generally good fps (30's to 50's) but annoying stutters/pauses. Plus black squares popping in and out on ground tiles and other artifacts. Zero blurries though.Wondering if it's hardware, drivers or OS. Too early to tell yet, maybe it will sort itself out.
  16. More often than not, trying to copy the whole FS9 over creates more problems and results in a longer process than if you just wiped and reinstalled from scratch - and I think reinstalling is the best option.Make a copy of your fs9 before you start though so you can cherry pick back in all your liveries and sounds etc.
  17. Agreed, Arklight.FS9's days aren't numbered. Since Aces went down, FS9 will always now be the 2nd last version MS ever produced. So why exactly are it's days numbered ? If anything now, developers no longer have a moving target to aim at. FSX will be the end. That's where we have to aim and I predict more FS9 addons as a result of this stability.
  18. Hmm Arklight. That's interesting. You've even overclocked that 920 and still it doesn't perform to your liking. I am about to finish the build in my sig, similar to yours, so hopefully I see something satisfactory :( :(
  19. If I'm not on a VNAV descent profile (which quite often I am) and I'm using +VFPS rate for some reason to reach a specified waypoint, then I make use of the handy green arc quite a lot. Dial in a rate that gets you to the green arc. The arc is your friend!
  20. Great work once again. If only someone would now pay the FS2Crew voice man to do a RC4 voice set then I would be immensely happy. :(
  21. Well done MeatWater. Looks like a great enhancement you have created and long wished for.No doubt RC4 will thank you too for a bit more sales volume :-)
  22. Aurelio,To do this you will have to draw a polygon in Gmax and then add a texture that has transparency alpha channel in it to simulate tyre marks. This is how the payware people do it.
  23. Thanks, the Barbados scenery is mine. If you have any problems, PM me here. I am aware of users having terrain elevation issues, to this I suggest you play with your terrain mesh settings. I am running a freeware mesh for all the Caribbean Islands. Unfortunately I do not recall the name of it but I think it came from the Avsim Library. I can send the bgl file for Barbados if anyone wants it (133k). It's impossible to test for all meshes out there.
  24. Paul,If you haven't alreadey, add TrackIR to that setup and you'll take it to an even better level of immersion.
  25. Blank screens basically mean you have an invalid license. It's a common anti-piracy measure, but sometimes legit users will experience it. Technology aint perfect. PMDG support are very helpful and need to be consulted on this.
