  1. There is a similar post further down about problems with 4k screens and stutters etc, I am not smart enough to link to that however I am firm believer on the VRAM issue after hitting the Vram wall with a GTX980Ti, now, if you play with Texture exp this is what I measured and posted in that response: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To press the point I made earlier I just ran a test 3 times with both exp = 9 and 10 . On runway 16L at YSSY 1400 hrs in the NGX 737 800 The important thing regardless of my spec is the only thing I changed was EXP 10 back to 9 and I did that test back and forth 3 times. My settings are all maxxed or as close as can be. ( I forgot to mention that I did not disable my 2k screen as that is always running for me whilst running v4 on the 4k monitor) Started up in the Virtual cockpit stuck my head out and spun around the same way each time: The result of 3 runs with each VRAM average EXP10 = 8534MBs VRAM average EXP 9 = 4579MBs Try it for yourselves easy enough to monitor in the Afterburner graphs (and log if need be). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I would also add that in response to this topic I found if I upped the autogen vegetation level from the default 4 to 6 IIRC the memory/ram went from about 12 GBs used to 17.5GBs so as has been said many times before still easy to make even a powerful pc slow down. Some people have complained about loading times with EXP=10, certainly is longer but the eye candy and all the 0 & 1s are worth it in my book on my screen.
  2. Frankly if moving back to EXP=9 doesn't fix most of your problems I will be very surprised. To press the point I made earlier I just ran a test 3 times with both exp9 and 10 . On runway 16L at YSSY 1400 hrs in the NGX 737 800 The important thing regardless of my spec is the only thing I changed was EXP 10 back to 9 and I did that test back and forth 3 times. My settings are all maxxed or as close as can be. Started up in the Virtual cockpit stuck my head out and spun around the same way each time: The result VRAM average EXP10 = 8534MBs VRAM average EXP 9 = 4579MBs Try it for yourselves easy enough to monitor in the Afterburner graphs (and log if need be). On the mechanical side of things last year I had a dud display port cable, it does happen, mine was causing screen freezes don't know why but a new cable fixed it. A long bow for sure but I wonder how many guys do try a different cable. Display Port needs a lot of grunt.
  3. absolute rubbish - say something constructive if you have anything to say at all.
  4. It did a lot for me, I bought a 1080Ti to replace a 980Ti because Vram at 4k was the big issue. 6Gbs in the 980Ti just wouldn't cut it whilst the 6 core 3930k at 4.4Ghz was doing the job. The visual change from a 980Ti to a 1080Ti at 4k and nothing else modified (i was already running the latest nvidia drivers at the time) was palpable.
  5. I have a Samsung 4k monitor tho I use a 1080Ti I have regularly seen between 8 and 10 GBs of the Vram in use at 4k with a terrain setting of 10, all the important sliders to the right and 8xMSAA (flying either the Twin Otter or the PMDG 737. I suspect if you are trying to run the same visual performance levels of 1920x1080 res now at 4k that is the strain for the 1080 Vram which I believe is 8GBs? I know my 980Ti was struggling with much lower sliders because of the 6Gbs in it. I moved to a 1080Ti from it with my old CPU (3930k @4.4Mhz) and the stutters and loading issues disappeared.
  6. I assume you correctly uninstalled from your old computer first and that is why you are asking about reactivation of your license? I expect Chaseplane will respond to your email soon
  7. Your right Ray I conflated the two issues (offline and beta) because I have had very little else go wrong with the Beta, only the offline server which we all know by now has a solution coming. As for the overall performance of Chaseplane and the support Keven and the team have given it I can say I am very satisfied at the price. There has been plenty of advice here for me to learn how to use some of it massive capabilities. I have always used the exp version and I dare say some will say I have been lucky. My Brother runs it on FSX in WIN 7 and is rapt (also exp). I am using it on v4
  8. I would support this comment having installed Chaseplane in March on my brothers sim and then in April on mine when I returned home. I think the server has been down 5 times during that period pretty good in my book for a Beta program and as for the rest of the program I like it a lot. I will be a happy as anyone else when the offline comes along having complained about it months ago, but then was satisfied with Keven's advice that it would come sometime in November. The other point to make in regard to the complaint about purchase price above is that the price now is for the Beta program and people who have the Beta will get the retail for free. That means for those who haven't thought about it they wont be paying the retail price and i suspect that will be different to (higher than?) the beta price as it is for most software products as I understand it.
  9. Good grief it isn't the OPs problem however, I don't know how many time Keven has to tell people an offline version is planned for November. A simple search for the word would give plenty of hits in this forum and it it is the subject of the pinned first item on this forum As for the guys that gripe that its stops P3D or breaks Trackir (which it never has for me) all you have to do is not link Chaseplane to start with you sim in the preferences in Chaseplane. Start it and P3D separately and you wont have those problems either if the server happens to go down again before the offline version is released. Cheers
  10. I think the ORBX control panel advises that AI Traffic only covers International traffic in OZ n NZ so yes you are right it probably wont work well OS.
  11. Worth a try for some screens but I suspect the change to 20Hz was the big factor in your improved visuals. The difference between 59 and 60Hz exists solely for NTSC IIRC it locks at 59.94 FPS. Some monitors screens can't recognise the sync so that is why they have the capability to select 59 or 60 I could be wrong but it should not make a difference on a PC monitor maybe on a 4k TV where Pal is 60HZ and NTSC is 59.94 they (the TV industry) needed a different number and they had to pick 59. Happy to be corrected on my understanding of it. Cheers
  12. LOL tho the more I think about it - a man produces most of his greatest ideas whilst drinking beer not whilst trying to understand his missus. Cheers
  13. Fully support the comment I use 8xSSAA in 4k which is an even heavier load than 5760x1080 though I do crank it back to 4xSSAA for the nighttime profile with the NGX. The Twin Otter which I like to fly low at night and enjoy the scenery handles the 8xSSAA ok in the exact same scenario. Don't know what the technical difference is myself, I guess the 738 software is more taxing overall (as many people have often stated here about the PDMG products)?
  14. Hi JP, I don't believe you need to do any of that and in the beginning it is safer not to. Open up FTX central and it will do it for you. Go to the settings button at the bottom and then you will see mid page the library insertion points the default is all you need for now as it sort the scenery file properly save and exit. BTW if you haven't done so you should open each category of scenery you download in ORBX and use their control panel to set it up just the way you want. they also have very good guides for each pack advising on settings. One item that is invaluable IMO is their Lights Configurator very important relative to the screen resolution you use. You can make the visible light smaller/ larger brighter dimmer etc and that really improves the night flying.
  15. Let me be the first to bite and say I am sad to hear about the lack of WOW. It all depends on your expectations, gear and the willingness to tune the software to your gear and clearly you are expressing some disappointment with your outcome to date. Sometimes we also need to take a break for a little while to get the taste back. I for a long while ran FSX and then alongside it XP11 on a 3930k @4.4 with 2 GTX680 4GB Gpus and was happy once I found the right settings no OOM and reasonably smooth even when I went to 4k. I bought a GTX980Ti and life was even better I found I could play with the sliders in XP11 but never got happy with having to download 70Gbs of ortho for california in XP11 it just took so long and that for me was my low point with flight sims because I didn't get a WOW after opening up the scenery. Flying the VRS Superhornet onto a carrier in ORBX country was/is a WOW time when I get tired of flying to a chart. I am happy to support people like ORBX who make it so easy and so well that it gives me more time to fly my sim. Then along comes v4 I dive in and life is so much better in the virtual flight world for me. Just finished upgrading to a new machine with a GTX1080Ti and the WOW is there for me I have gone from 9 to 10 in the terrain settings and most of my sliders are maxxed. I can use DL around Sydney at night as well and during the day the scenery just floats by when I stay low in the Twin Otter. I have learnt a lot lurking on this forum since 2009, from guys providing, for example profiles for night time DL flights to how to set up your XML script etc. One of the best ongoing learning experiences I have had outside of raising kids. V4 has given me a big kick along in flight simming and certainly some small moments of frustration before the WOW. I hope I live long enough to do it all with a super smooth immersive 3d headset. In support of your comment about your gear, my recent step up in PC gear was very very discernable in v4. Not for everyone that expense, but I couldn't be happier. I will give you an example of my visual performance improvement if I could, on the deck at YSSY in the Otter at Night with DL on and the 3930K and GTX980Ti my system really struggled with DL on, I looked even more closely at my 980Ti and suspected it was running out of VRAM (6GBs). I borrowed a 1080TI for 2 hours and bought one a while later. At the end of the strip at 2000 hrs with DL on the 1080Ti moves between 8.5 and 9Gbs of VRAM at 4K (the load halved) and it looks great and smooth, now having the new CPU on the X299 and much faster ram 3600 to the old 2400 in the 3930k has taken the airport nighttime FPS from 27 in the 3930K to 45+ with higher slider settings I also am waiting for great developers like VRS to write their 64bit stuff for v4 so I can fly the fabulous Super Hornet ( still do it in FSX) however I am very happy enjoying the climb out over Botany Bay in either the 738 or the TWIN Otter. I am sure you will get the WOW factor back. Cheers
  16. I quite like flying at night in ORBX country, mind you I do it typically at less than FL50 in the Twin Otter mostly in Australia. I spent a fair bit of time with the ORBX Light configurator which can make some huge differences to the bloom in their lighting. I toned things down in brightness and size like the red brake lights and the blue lighting because it seemed to big and bright on a 4k screen.
  17. Hi Rob may I ask with your night time config you mention above here and on your website do you also leave the terrain setting at 10? Cheers
  18. I read the statement from Keven and am glad in a small way that the fault with the security certificate was internal and wasn't someone probing or penetrating the system. At my age I don't like to hurry time but come on November! I will also be taking the advice here to unlink CP from v4 until the offline mode is proved to work. Cheers
  19. The fact that one cannot access their website because the security certificate expired apparently around the same time as the servers went down for Chaseplane. I suspect they may have some major issues with someone getting into their system that shouldn't have (one of many possibilities no doubt). Keven hasn't been quick to answer the way he usually does so I expect much drama is occurring at their FSFX HQ. I just hope they were not live testing the offline mode due in November because if they did it they now know it didn't work. I also complained earlier on about the internet connection need and still feel strongly about it. However I do not let my concern over one (albeit significant) aspect cloud the fact (sorry about the pun) that outside of 2 days total offline in 7 months of almost daily use up to now, detract from what is overall a first class product. I will be keen to see Keven's explanation of the fault this time as the August issue was IIRC declared a hardware problem and they also implemented steps to avoid a recurrence of that problem.
  20. Hi SImbol, Thanks for the quick turnaround on the update to install in a directory of choice. Will install shortly. Cheers for the great work. UPDATE: Installed in the Prepar3d ssd and working fine, nice result just tried it with the Twin Otter at YSSY (had already used the ORBX light configurator for their addons) at 2100 in the Spring here. and stayed around 32fps (4K) on the tarmac, flying over the city and the harbour min 36 fps and up so no real change (hit) to fps that I could discern o very smooth. TL is 9, can't go higher with the 3930k.
  21. Rob was spot on with his comment about performance, the only part of the value (worth it) question Rob didn't anwer was the eye candy, and 10 is definitely an improvement in detail over 8 if your system has enough grunt. Mine hasn't got it for 10, I run at 9 and I can see the benefit over 8, I am upgrading everything in a fortnight so I can run at L10 or more now that I can see the i9 series running comfortably at 4.8-5GHz as my CPU although very good in performance for a 6 core it wont get the first core up high enough to feed the other cores the way I like.
  22. Thanks for your efforts I can wait the two weeks. Cheers
  23. Hi Simbol, I have followed the development of your program on the forum and I am impressed with the positive comments. I just downloaded from your website, I note your installer is fixed on C:Program files\etc any chance we can be given the choice to install elsewhere like on my P3D drive? Cheers
