  1. I am far removed from the current discussion above then I used to be, but rest assured Chase and the team working the IT side of things have taken what we (I) installed in 2009 and made it VASTLY better. NO online service is going to be able to touch the stability and sheer volume of data traffic as the current NOC does. It is quite literally secure from a physical and data point of view. Not Azure, not rackspace, not godaddy, not google, not anyone. Comparing the sheer volume of AVSIM's library and forums to ANY other site it like comparing an apple to a zucchini. They have the right people and server farm in place. Please just give them some time to do their job AND their volunteer work here. --Former IT Staff, AVSIM
  2. AMAZING kit! Running windows 10 at home, Android ASUS 7" tablet with Dolphin browser and this works FLAWLESSLY! Just purchased another license for my friend to!!!! NICE JOB!!!
  3. Chase, congrats to you and Brian and all. I could go into the WHY we did it that way back then, but, it would no longer make sense 6 years later.
  4. This was a multiple application test for me, so I thought I'd put it here in general items and report my findings. The setup: See my signature for overall stuff, but here is what I did: Win7 64-bit workstation: --FSX Acceleration with original FSX box running on Win7 64-bit PC. --Default Cessna and PMDG NGX and 777 tested. --Default Scenery. --NO other flight related programs running on this box, all running from below laptop. --Network-connected Laptop running 64-Bit Windows 10 home apps running from laptop: ----Active Sky Next ---FS Commander (Latest edition) ----WideFS (for above connection, for FSC) In the above configuration, with the laptop being "upgraded" to win10 64-bit, I have NO issues with any of the above 3rd party plugin apps running. Weather is correctly depicted, FSC moving maps and GPS works, and no issues. Now, of course, the next step would be upgrading the MAIN PC with FSX on it, but, I am not that brave yet. lol Any thoughts from anyone else?
  5. I can confirm, as I just tested it. It works. FSX on a Win7 computer, all other apps running from laptop on Win10 and it works. I did the Win10 HOME UPGRADE on the laptop and had NO issues. I can also confirm that other apps are working that way across network, but I will post that in other forums. thanks!
  6. Sorry, I know it's still officially a day off, but I wanted to know if I should do this or not. I run FSX on a Win 7 workstation, and then network weather from ASN to a Win8.1 laptop. Will ASN work in a networked configuration from a windows 10 laptop to a Win7 desktop (FSX on Win7)?? thanks!
  7. I didnt take any video but if you would like to see photos, You can view them here: https://plus.google.com/photos/110243457677523759170/albums/6159956897422835825 I also included in there photos I got with Rob R. from PMDG with his DC3 at the ramp. Yes, he flew himself in. lol
  8. hmmmm would be an interesting app. Most VA's strive to supply an online live map. Other then that, I am not sure something exists.
  9. sorry to dig up a 2 week old thread, but that index.html is a VERY old link. We switched to IPB forums over....5 years ago now. I originally installed it, over Christmas time 2009.
  10. I had to dig a bit, and I hope it's OK for me to post 3 photos here. If I can get them to post in order, they are: 1. 2005 San Diego, with Bob Kirkland, Matt Johnson, Tom, and staff from Microsoft. 2. 2005 San Diego AVSIM partial staff, to include all of the above, Tom's Wife, and myself. 3. Again staff photo, this one was I believe one of the years in DC.
  11. VATSIM has a "hit squad" of visiting controllers to work events. being this is only a week out, you'd need to contact them ASAP. I'd love to control the event, but my skills are VERY rusty at this point, and I was a RADAR controller in real life, some 20 years ago. VFR would not be good for me to work. But contact VATSIM Hit Squad. I am sure they can find some. As for my own flight, I am thinking of what and how I wanna fly this. Will post my sign up later...
  12. Any possibility of this in the future? There is a few "good" ACARS units out there now for use by Virtual Airlines. I am experimenting with one for an airline I am assisting to bring back from the dead. We're close to having the ACARS working, of course via a 3rd party running program. My question is, would it be possible, at some point, to have this actually work from inside the PMDG's FMC units? I'd LOVE to see this.
  13. I've posted a few times, around AVSIM and other places, about my heart felt loss for Tom. Anyone that knows of me, know that Tom and I didn't "always" see eye to eye, but, we respected each other. Through the years, I had left, come back, repeat. More then a couple times. :( Most recently, I was away from flight sim for a couple years, and missed the last conference they held. I now very much regret that. :( Family and my own life had gotten in my way, but I intend to never let that happen again. I missed flying, I missed being part of this group. God Willing, I will get back to my old ATC chops too. And why? Because I can think of NO better way to honor a dear, respected, lost friend then to continue flying. Beating my head against the screens when I need to tweak more, or flying into intense weather and smiling every time. I can only hope that paths cross again for all of my current, new , and former flight sim folks. Both here and now, and in the afterlife. I'll be Tom's co-pilot any day.
  14. I am in Shock. :( Even with the news weeks ago, I thought for certain, some how, some way, he would fight this like everything else, and win. :( Tom, to you and your family, God Bless and my thoughts are with you. You have built something wonderful in AVSIM, and I promise no one will forget. WE, as a family of flight simmers, won't let them. Safe skies my friend.

    For Tom.

I hope the admins will allow one small lee-way and allow the link below. It is to my personal site, and a heart felt thank you for Tom, AVSIM, and the community. God Bless. http://www.binnerfamily.org/avsim/for-tom/
  16. hmmmm, just tried it on my Samsung Note 8 (Android) with Dolphin browser for Android and it looks fine to me. Opens with full screen mode as well and not portable. (Note 8 is an 8" tablet with AT&T service)
  17. I had to go look myself....because i was curious too.....from the HP website, this is what they use in the G5's: Storage Controller: Performance Models: HP Smart Array P400/512MB BBWC Controller (RAID 0/1/1+0/5/6); High Efficiency and Base Models: HP Smart Array P400/256MB Controller (RAID 0/1/1+0/5); Entry Models: HP Smart Array E200/64MB Controller (RAID 0/1/1+0) HP is typically VERY good stuff. Knock on wood hope it stays that way!
  18. jumping in here, if you still see speed issues, clear your dns with an: ipconfig /flushdns from your windows machine command line (cmd) Don't ask me about Mac, I don't know. And then clear your cache in whatever browser you are using. With the changes we've made and those two commands, it was excellent for me in last hour.
  19. In the mean time, if you look at the upper left, below the AVSIM tail fin, then below the tool bar, you will see light-grey links: If you click on the "community" it will take you to the forum root. The AVSIM Community → Help & Frequently Asked Questions → Help Using the AVSIM ForumsI
  20. 8:47pm EST, Library is back online and downloads work again. If you need a direct link, it will always work even if the link from main page does not: http://library.avsim.net that is the direct link we use to link to.
  21. I would NEVER be caught dead or alive with an apple product in my hand. forced to carry one till today for work, now I have handed that off to someone else. My Personal phone is an Android based HTC OneX+....LOVE it!
  22. I hand fly up to 2,000' and again on approach out of 5K. I dont wanna ruin all the fun.
  23. Give me a few minutes I'll get it uploaded Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2 Updated MCO to IAH here, attached
  24. Tatave, If there is no ground, tower, etc on, go to the "next highest" controller and he/she will give you clearance and usually give you control from the ground up. On VATSIM, not all posistions are manned all the time, so the general rule to use is "next highest" controller in the scheme....Is ground is not on then tower, if tower is not on then arrival, if arrival is not on then center. Good luck!
