Hello all, I have seen a few reviews from people with AMD chips going to the new devils canyon, but how about sandy bridge. I have a 2600k that runs fine at 4.8Ghz and I have played FSX with it as high as 5.1Ghz and definitely notice a smoother running sim and hotter LOL. Is it worth going from a 2600k @ 4.8 to a 4790k assuming I can run it @ 4.6- 4.8? I will be reusing my 2133 ram and have a GTX970 on its way already. Anyone with a similar setup care to give some feedback. Thanks.

New processor

The 660 will do fine I had that before i moved to a 770. -
20fps in p3d is smoother then 20fps in FSX but once you dial back the scenery for a solid 30fps and bring the 1/2 refresh lock @ 30 fsx is smoother. Does anyone know why the 1/2 refresh does not work in p3d?

0 I never had CTD before loading the newest. Now P3D doesn't run long enough to even do anything with it. Just curious did you upgrade or do a full install?
-
Why Yes I would. Pick your favorite airport with building storms and dial the scenery in to average around 30-35 fps with NO FPS lock or limiter, save that situation reboot to verify its still getting the 30-35 fps and then replace the card with the new one and see how much the frames increase.. Please let me know what airport you used as I have a 770 card I may upgrade as well. I think this would help others make an informed decision. Thanks and enjoy the 980...

So Traffic 360 does not work in P3D?

Looks like we have a winner, the (1's) have it! So overall if I mostly fly ORBX scenery in FSX is it worth migrating to P3D 2.4, in terms of smoothness first then visuals which I understand are better?

DO NOT GET A DUAL CORE CPU. Just to test this I disabled 2 cores from my 2600k and my FPS dropped a LOT. So FSX does like 4 cores. however you dont get the same jump by going to a six core from what I hear, as I have no way to try that. Anyone with a 6 core monster it would be interesting to see the results from shutting off 2 cores and then shutting off 4 cores and seeing what kind of FPS drop you have.

Stutter - Adaptive VSync could offer a solution

I have very smooth flight with the 1/2 refresh lock in the nvidia driver control panel while flying in FSX. Does LM plan to implement a full screen option (maybe version 2.4) which should allow the 1/2 refresh lock to work? -
New PC

Also for RAM get dual channel two 4 or 8 gig sticks of 2133 or better. If your scenery is dialed in to give you a constant 30FPS at 1600 speed then you upgrade to 2133 it will jump to 33fps. That may not sound like much but its 10%. I have tested this by dropping my 2133 back to 1600 speed and I loose my 3 fps gain, So it is worth it. With that system you could run even faster ram. -
The best "view" I have found is also using wide view aspect and only zooming out to (.90). If you do not use wide aspect with a wide screen monitor as most everyone has now, then your zoomed in way too much. I think I only loose a few frames a sec, very worth the trade in being able to see more going on.

Definitely get Skagit, great airport and great frame rates. Anacortes is great for scenery but a little more of a fps hit, but very worth it, the two are very close together.

RK, I do not have a second video card to try this but can you not undock a view a drag it to the desired screen? Sorry I cant give a better answer, However I had a quick question for you. I am looking at getting a second GTX560 for surround and i was wondering what your experience was with 1 screen vs 3? For example sitting on your favorite runway for take off with one monitor getting say 35fps. Then adding second card for full surround what fps did you see it drop to, and did it studder more? Thanks.

Wow, that looks great.KP

Sorry for abandoning the thread, work has been crazy.Anyway Since I could not produce these great results others have seen with there gtx570 I decided it was my Q9550 not being fast enough to feed the monster. So I picked up a I7-2600k ASUS MB and tried it out. WOW all I can say is this chip is awesome. However curiosity got the best of me and I had to put the gtx260 back in for comparison purposes. I really didn't see any slowdown so back to the store the 570 went. Hopefully kepler will provide a big gain. Just for some comparisons my start up at seatac with the Q9550 gave me 22FPS and now with the 2600k (same medium to high settings) I get 33 fps and a MUCH smoother flight. So if you have a decent card, spend the money on a sandy bridge you will love it...

Hello All,So I have a Q9550 overclocked to 3.7, 4gigs ram and a GTX260 card on win64. After seeing the reviews decided to get a GTX570. After following the driver removal instructions on Nvidia's web site I removed the drivers swapped cards and installed the new drivers. With the GTX570 installed the benchmarks showed double the power of the older GTX260. So eager to see what FSX could do now I loaded it up. And if I had not put the card in my self I would not have believed it was changed. Really not (1) FPS more, and not the least bit smoother. How is it possible that the card could show such improvements in 3 different benchmarks but absolutely nothing for FSX? Has anyone else experienced this when changing there card. When I went from a GTS8800 to a GTX260 I noticed a big increase in smoothness, not a big FPS increase but smoother.I just don't see the difference here I was expecting from other reviewers.Regards,Ken
