  1. I dont have the steam edition but Pv3 is on par with FSX as far as smoothness. plus you get a lot of eye candy options.
  2. just got V3 here, and AA is working much better then V2.4 I dont even need 4XSGAA clouds look stunning.
  3. As prepar3d is the new standard, it would only be wise for venders to update there installers as ORBX is doing so that they can continue selling product. I just bought the C172 and have yet to try installing it as I only got V3 a few days ago but would be a shame if I cant use it anymore.
  4. Short answer go for it! I just upgraded from a 2600k @ 4.8 to a 4690k @ 4.8 and it is smoother for sure. Night and Day no. but you would be going from 2600k to 6700k which will be even more of a jump, plus much faster ram as it uses DDR4. Another benefit would be a M.2 x4 slot. Buy one of these new capable SSD's and install P3D on there, it will load very quick.
  5. Sorry as I cant speak from experience here, but from what I'm reading... A 6700k w/ 4 cores @ 4.7 will perform better then a 5960x 8 cores @ 4.4 Assuming both chips reach those speeds.
  6. That was it! Thank You for the reply. I actually read this somewhere and tried it as soon as I got home. Works great. Wow, V3 is amazing.
  7. I too can run FSX smoothly on my laptop, its all in how much scenery you dial in. With that said the system you chose will work, but if you can find a deal on something with a faster processor 4690k or skylake would be ideal. then go for that, as you will be able to turn up scenery that much more.
  8. Hard to tell from a picture but you can go to the FSX.CFG and change the LOD radius from the default of 4.5 to 5.5 or 6.5. This will increase the texture loading distance. Also check to make sure in nvidia control panel that you have it set on enhance application setting and 8x AA and 8x AF. As for smoothness you do not need the external limiter anymore, go to the nvidia control panel again and set v-sync to force 1/2 refresh rate, then in FSX set it at 30FPS, you will now see great smoothness, however you must have the scenery settings dialed a little down as you cannot go below 30fps or you will get worse stutters.
  9. First I want to say great job LM on Pv3 It looks amazing compared to FSX. Unfortunately I am getting bad screen tearing. I have tried every combination of v-sync/FPS slider in prepar3d and nvidia profile I can think of and cannot get rid of it. Just to be clear I have a fast system that runs FSX great. devils canyon @ 4.8 with Prepar3d on dedicated m.2 drive and a GTX970. As far as frame rates go I have turned almost all scenery OFF just to make sure I'm not overloading the scenery engine. I can get 70-90 FPS and still get screen tearing. Then click on v-sync and the FPS drops but the image tearing will continue. Cool thing about Prepar3D is I can crank the scenery really high almost everything MAXED and get decent FPS still, but then when you are zoomed out looking at the airplane and panning the image starts to tear. Turning scenery down slightly improved this but no where near as fluid as FSX is. I have tried 3 different drivers including deleting the shader folder and nothing helps. Any ideas as I cannot imagine this being normal, I will try and reinstall soon and report back. Any ideas would be appreciated as it is really not playable as it is.
  10. Rob, Maybe you could put the bug in LM ear to make some sort of short flight demo to test FPS on different machines. With set graphics and flight plans.
  11. I believe intel stated max is 1.43v but thats not for long term, and 93c IS MAX for heat. With you hitting 93c @ only 1.21 yeah you need a better cooler or reapply the paste. Small vertical line (grain of rice) down the center. If you cannot drop the heat down, then I would drop the clock to 4.5 and call it good. As real world temps should be about 20c lower then the intel utility.
  12. Microsoft changed one of them (sorry cant remember which one it was) to a recommended one, so I would guess almost everyone with win7 will have at least 1 or more of these on there computer. My laptop CPU went from having about 80% usage to 1-2% usage by simply removing these so called updates. I have not used my desktop over the last 6 months as I have been moving and painting and trying to organize and ect. ect. ect. But now that I have it out of storage and rebuilt I made the changes to it as well.
  13. Yes unfortunately I think they will. Thanks, I will give it a try on the next computer I work on. Your welcome, just trying to help everyone get there computers back to normal.
  14. Agree 100%. Turn down the traffic I have this at 5% up to 10% MAX. 50% would be a huge FPS hit. Another big one is the "airport scenery density" this should be on low any more causes a big FPS hit where its most demanding already, the airports. IF you have good cooling and feel comfortable adjusting your BIOS then yes overclock it, you should be able to hit 4.5-4.6 with out much added voltage. Last set your FPS to 30 in FSX and 1/2 refresh in nvidia control panel. If its not able to maintain 30fps adjust the scenery down a little more till it is. You will now have very SMOOTH flight.
  15. Please see POST in Windows 7 Forum http://www.avsim.com/topic/476581-everyone-using-windows-7-please-read-important/ Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to see this. I'm only trying to help as many others as I can bring there computers back to normal. MODS. Please LOCK this thread as I would like any discussions to stay in the original topic/forum. Thanks
  16. This is for anyone with WINDOWS-7 that would like there computer to run like normal again by getting rid of the virus's (Microsoft has disguised as recommended updates) or slowdowns Microsoft has installed over the past few months. Go to... Windows Update // View Update History // Installed Updates Then once you are there look for the following installed updates. (See below) If any are found select each one individually and at the top of the screen click uninstall. This is the one that nags you every time you turn on the computer to install windows 10 (if you want to install 10, please skip this one) KB3035583 The rest are Telemetry which sends Microsoft a list of programs you have on your computer EVERY time you turn it on, which is why it has been running so slowwwww..... KB2952664 KB3022345 KB3068708 KB3075249 KB3080149 Restart your computer. After making these changes you will want to go back to windows update and have it search for updates. The updates you just removed will appear again (this is normal) and you will simply select each one and select hide. NOW your computer will run normal without the annoying win10 update popup and the back ground data collection going on with every startup. I have performed this operation on several computers now and have very positive feedback from all of them. Then I wondered why I do not see the same issue’s at work on any of the work computers I use. After doing some research I found that these updates are not sent to windows 7 “Enterprise Edition” Which is what most Company’s/Business’s use. I do not want this to be a thread about why Microsoft is doing this. I just wanted to put this together to help people out, if you don’t want to make these changes, Don’t. But if you have ALL these updates installed and a few I have looked at have, you will notice your computer running better once you have completed this. And you can only guess what these system resource hogging updates are doing for you flight simulation experience. Mods, Please fill free to make this a sticky if you would like.
  17. Good Morning Dougal, Are these the 2133 flavor? If so with that Asus board you are doing pretty well. You could up it to 16gb @ 2400mhz ram but its not going to be earth shattering, you may not notice nothing at all for FSX. Personally I would wait and use the cash towards a new CPU, M/B and DDR4 ram.
  18. Hi westman, Is the Approx. 8 FPS from 2700k to 6700k at the same clock? I need to run this again to see how mine compares, as I just upgraded from from a 2600k to a 4690k, definitely smoother.
  19. I don't think a few subtle FTX logos here and there are too bad to deal with, One of my scenery's has a hot air balloon with the FTX logo on it, a little suprised I havent seen an airplane flying around with a logo yet. But I think we can all agree we just dont want the scenery to be plastered with it.
  20. 1. Microsoft said themselves they wanted to distance themselves from 8 which is why they called it 10 as they feel it was more then just an updated 8.2 2. Have you used a laptop in the last few months? They are much slower due to all these so called updates (telemetry) just look it up, its on Microsofts own website. I will be posting a topic soon on this to help others bring there computers back to life. 3. I will continue to use Win7 Thankyou, but that does not mean I won't migrate to 10 at some point as it is better then 8. OK so maybe saying who's running microsoft is an idiot was a little harsh, but there sure is other things they could be doing to improve there image and not slowing down peoples computers. And maybe I'm still a little upset about them getting rid of ACES and FSX11. THANK YOU LM- PREPAR3D.
  21. Just a small line across the die, nothing excessive just enough to cover it and a small grain of rice on top between the H110 (same as last time). I suppose its possible it could go down a little with time as it does have a 200 hour cure time and these results were with in 1 hour. But I'm going to change it regardless at this point. I now agree with you, the intel TIM is not that bad after all, but i was expecting a few degrees drop. Maybe mine was applied good from the factory as I didn't see it as overly thick as some have pointed out. Anyway I will order some ultra and try it out next week. Its easy enough now to just clean the AS5 off and apply the Ultra. I will update again in about a week or so when I get this changed.
  22. This would be very cool if some attention was given to this, not sure what if anything can be done.
