  1. Checklists man! Gotta use your checklists and make sure you are ready for push back and engine start. I would suggest that before suggesting you just have the beacon on at all times. That doesn't sound like a very appealing solution....

    Weather

I have REX and Active Sky. For weather, I prefer Active Sky. Both are superior to the default weather that is for sure. You will be amazed. Doesnt hurt to get FSUIPC and use its smoothing options for winds and temperature and pressure.
  3. FSUIPC has an autosave function which I use. Havent had a CTD when flying the NGX in a while, but when I did and used the latest auto save, the NGX seems to do a real good job loading up the panel state. You just have to survive that period when the plane is loading. FSUIPC can also autosave when you quit FSX, which I actually use all the time. I tend to always fly where I want to go. So if I want to fly in Hawaii, I dont just load my plane in Hawaii, I will actually plot routes to Hawaii, I actually want to go to a place inside the sim, so my log is fairly continuous. Sometimes I break that, but not often. And so when I quit FSX, and FSUIPC creates that autosave on sim quit, I will then load that up, then adjust the time of the sim and then continue my journey, and the panel is pretty much just how I left it. There is one thing that the NGX does not seem to deal with though, and that is Alternate Destinations. If you go on a long flight and load up your alternates in the FMS, they will carry over. On your next flight however, if you delete say...4 of them and then go with only 1 on your next flight....when you load the NGX again, you will see that 1 new one, but you will see 3 old ones. The NGX doesnt seem to carry over deleting an alternate. Not a big deal, but it is a rough edge.
  4. Alright, so not EVERY single jet liner.
  5. Isn't it supposed to be wicked dangerous to take off a jetliner with no slats extended?
  6. Yeah, same here. A wonderful 'trick' too on how to enter a flight plan into the FMS. Not really a trick but you know. And that is about all I have to say on this topic. Not much. But when I see a topic titled 'Idiot using FMC', I just have to take a look. Us idiots have to stick together you know.
  7. I was able to do it easy enough with EZDok. I have a few cabin views, one looking up and the wing, one looking back at the wing, and have these positions set for both the starboard and port side of the aircraft. I honestly have no idea if such a thing is possible without EZDok, my guess being that it is not, though I have been wrong before....
  8. Nuts. When I was typing that I had this feeling that I bet this thing doesn't work the same way going down as it does going up. So what do I do? Do I go and dig through the FCOM and make sure? Nah. I just post anyway and make a fool of myself. Not the first time. Otherwise, good to know I can use that from now on for DES NOW. I guess I will also no longer be adjusting the pressurization controller after step climbs either.
  9. you can press that little alt button on the MCP too. Change the altitude on the MCP, press that button, and it will enter that number as your new cruise in the FMS. Well, I do this for step climbs, I assume it works for step downs too......not sure why I assume that actually. Maybe that doesnt work for stepping down. Something for me to check on my next NGX jump I guess. Well, that post turned useless real quick....
  10. My current rig I think has all its components bought from on-line retailers. And 2nd on building your own rig. Save a wad of cash.
  11. Yeah, just sort of skip the pushback stuff with FS2Crew. You can still tell him clear to disconnect and all that, but you can just ignore FS2Crew, do pushback with AES, and then set take off flaps and resume the workflow from there.
  12. Hey Doug Long time no see. Things have been good, but busy. Hopefully things are good for you as well. Been on a bit of an FSX break.......my limited sim time has been pretty much dominated with flying a bit higher and faster than FSX allows. Yeah, Boeing overkill, that certainly is something PMDG has to think about. For myself, it is not such a big deal. I am a self-admitted Boeing a really excited user, so the more Boeing's the better, but I also know that the vast majority of simmers can't be like me, that I am a niche consumer when it comes to FSX. Big reason I dont have much excitement for the DC-6 is the fact it is an old airplane, with steam gauges. Just not as appealing to me to fly in FSX as something that has all the glass, the flight computers, all that jazz. Which is why I love flying the NGX, it has a wonderful FMS, the HUD, autoland, the autopilots, all these new modern avionics and goodies to play with, things I am no where near qualified to fly in real life. But flying things old fashioned has its appeal too. This past bit, all my FSX time has been spent flying around GA VFR....change of pace. And I am sure once the DC-6 is released and people start posting their amazing adventures and pictures of using the plane, I will change my mind. I am a sucker for good publicity like that.
  13. Well, for what it is worth, I would buy a PMDG 767-400 in a heartbeat. I would enjoy it much more than a DC-6, that is for sure, a plane which I have zero intention of purchasing. The idea of a PMDG 767 always was an appealing prospect to me, as the Level D one really really shows its age.
  14. I saw this the last few times I flew the -600. During VNAV descent the engines just would not spool down to idle, but stayed at a high N1 and thus the aircraft deviated from the vertical path and it became....difficult....to get the aircraft in a low enough energy state to perform the approach. Switching to V/S would get the engines to cut down to idle, but something about VNAV wouldnt do it.
  15. I used to only use the CDU via a 2d pop up panel. Probably has a bit to do with always flying the LDS 767. But since the NGX, and thanks a great deal to Ezdok, I now only use the VC for the CDU and the overhead panel (another thing which prior to the NGX I almost always used a 2d pop up to interact with)
  16. I hope we have learned form the NGX experience and just let the thing get developed in silence. It will be released when it is released. And even if you hear rough timelines and dates from officios, just ignore it. There is absolutely no sense in hanging on every word and waiting. Go do something else, fly the NGX, and before you know it, the T7 will be released.
  17. eh, do the CRJs. I dont think anyone has done a quality addon for those. Well, in my opinion, no one has done a quality addon for the ERJs either.... or take a crack at a private jet, like a Citation or Gulfstream...although I do recall that Gulfstream doesnt like people making addons of their stuff. At somepoint I would like to think FSX will finally be fully replaced and we will have a new and improved flight sim to fly, and should that new flight sim not be so compatible with FSX stuff, well then they get to start again with new and improved verions of the great airplanes we already have.
  18. Same here. And may I also request that Boeing house liveries be included in your release batch? If not flying an American Airlines painted plane, my next preference would be Boeing house colours.
  19. pretty much every flight I have been on spoilers are used, so this idea that spoilers are never to be used in flight is something I have never paid much attention to. Good use of the speedbrake, level change pitch mode, those are the two methods I have used to slow down the NGX. Sometimes things have not went as smoothly as they should. Mainly because I was distracted and wasnt ontop of the speed as much as I should, and I used flaps to slow down, especially the slats/flaps 1. I find if you are ontop of the speed early, you will be fine, but if you let it get out of hand, it is very difficult to get it back under control.
  20. I used to fly in the VC and then use 2D panels for CDU and the overhead panel. Did this for the Super 80 pro, the Maddog, the LevelD 767, the PMDG 747, all the addons. Then I got TrackIR right before the NGX came out, and it changed how I fly now. Along with EZDok. Now I NEVER use 2d panels. I just can look or switch the camera in the VC to the overhead or the CDU. And for taxi, take off, approaches and landings, TrackIR is amazing. makes flying visual so much more emersive. To be able to look out the windows and find the field, to get that sense of the surroundings. I wont go and say it is neccessary. Because that would be a lie. I flew in FSX for years before I got TrackIR. But it is an amazing addition to the experience. I recommend TrackIR/EZdok to everyone who enjoys VC flying. even if EZDok is a total pain in the you know what, coupled with TrackIR it adds so much to the experience.
  21. Please don't mis-interpret my title, I have had a blast finally getting a chance to fly the NGX with my good ole FS2Crew FO. Got it for a birthday gift back in April, but only just got a chance to install and try it out now. Which actions by the FO are blind? meaning no regard to the current status of the switch or setting? I was hoping to still maintain some of my old procedures I had developed myself for flying this aircraft solo, old habits die hard and that sort of thing, but the FO flips switches and changes screens so fast and often on me, I just want to know what to anticipate so I dont throw him off. For instance, I prefer to have the lower center display unit on the SYS page for turning on the hydraulics, have the 2nd Eng screen (the one that adds the info on the top screen) on for ops under 18,000 feet, and have the FOs CDU set to Progress. I also prefer to carry over the flight deck state, and not start from the same cold and dark, so which switches should I anticipate getting into the right position before letting my FO get going on his pre-flight flows. Cheers, and excellent stuff as usual Bryan!
  22. That is awesome. She certainly is a realistic aircraft. Reading things like this shows how much. Or better yet, try and fly something else. The other day, I decided to fly another add-on aircraft, and was so depressed by it, the state of its VC, the buggyness of its systems, the amount of knobs that didnt move or do anything. I said forget this, I am sticking with the NGX exclusively. At least until a certain other plane becomes available. or I get my hands on the FSL Concorde X.
  23. its looks like you are doing everthing right. I was the Hud set up, you know that screen in the center panel. Is it set for the AIII Auto arm? I recall that if you tune both nav radios to the ILS, that AIII tends to automatically actiavate anyway, but that may have something to do with a specific equipment option. It certainly has nothing to do with the disconnecting the AP. I have hand flown AIII many many times, and I am 99.100% certain that is how it is meant to be flown anyway. Is this a repeatable thing here? does it happen every time you shoot for an AIII?
