  1. Thanks for the clarification, it's perfectly understandable, and why not, respectable. Of the few preview images we've seen lately, most (if not all) are focused on the SP1 especially, and the new features / fixes, but I haven't seen any from the 777-300ER, other than those uploaded to Facebook a while ago. Could you main guys / developers / beta testers (team overall to summarize) please add at least one (or a few ) preview pictures of the longer triple seven? I personally would be really happy with an All Blacks photo but I'm more certain several people would be grateful with some previews regardless of the livery. Regards.
  2. Ladies and gentlemen... I just wanted to share with you, I couldn't wait anyomre, and I bought some new parts today. Purchased an i7 4770k, ASUS Z87 Pro and one Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR 8GB 2133MHz. Having moved from a nearly 6 years old Intel Core2Quad 6600 @ 2.4GHz, a not-so-brilliant Intel DG31PR motherboard and some cheap 2x2GB DDR2 RAM modules, I can tell you I can't believe what I see now. While I used to struggle to get 12-17 FPS in my local airport addon scenery with a fully tweaked fsx.cfg, now I get constant and fluid 22-27 FPS in the same airport, and this is with a totally clean (non-tweaked) fsx.cfg, no overclock at all and still using my, again, nearly 6 years old MSI Radeon HD 4870 (512MB). I'm very very happy with the new performance, can't imagine when all the tweaking is done, and when I buy a new videocard! So far I'll enjoy it as much as I can. Thank you guys for your advice on the subject!
  3. Thanks for your replies. Dennis: Yes, my next GPU will be nVIDIA no doubt. NickN's guide is very good and complete, reading it at the moment. As to what to upgrade first... In my case it'd be more benefical to do as I proposed first, because my parents are going to help me with half the cost of the new computer. As such, I told them I'd give my current PC to them, so it's easier if I buy everything but the videocard first, because we could use both PCs separately. Of course, performance won't be at its peak, but having the rest of the PC assembled already, I could easily wait a month or two to get the videocard. Now I have two final questions, so any of your experienced opinions would be highly appreciated: 1. What I plan to do is buying a PC that will last at least 3 or 4 years. As such, I want to overclock the i7 4770k to around 4.2 - 4.5 GHz, cooled with a Corsair H100i. Single videocard configuration (could be an EVGA GTX 780 or 780Ti), SSD for FSX, etcetera. Nothing beyond this world. Today, while looking at different motherboards, I stumbled upon two models: ASUS Maximus VI Extreme, and ASUS Z87 Pro. Both look really good, but the Maximus VI Extreme, apart from being more than twice the price of the Z87 Pro, has some features or "gimmicks" they call that I might not even use or notice at all. My question is: would I be fine with the Z87 Pro? I ask this because such a big price difference must have a reason, performance-wise, perhaps. Will I have limitations when it comes to overclocking the 4770k compared to the Maximus VI Extreme? Can I pass from the good-looking Maximus VI Extreme and buy the cheaper, yet good (apparently) Z87 Pro? Or would I regret it in the future? I could buy both motherboard and processor today, but as you can imagine, I'm highly excited about it, so I don't want to make a quick, impulsive decision just to end up regretting it later. 2. Will 8GB of RAM memory be enough? As Dennis said above, 16GB could be slower than 8GB. I currently have 4GB, and constantly see my PC struggling when I have FSX and other programs open, to the point of seeing the task manager showing zero free memory. However, I assume that's because FSX has a 4GB memory limit (I used NTCore's 4GB Patch), and that combined with the other programs end up eating all the memory (logical). Question is: will 8GB be enough for handling FSX plus its addons? Or should I better go for 16GB? By addons I mean PFPX, FS Real Time, Active Sky Next, TeamSpeak, Skype Chrome and Winamp (hey, I can't go without my music!), all of which are open at the same time when flying. I'm not interested in professional video editing of such, so I definitely don't need 32+GB  Big thanks in advance. According to what you guys reply, I might have (part of) a new PC today!
  4. Hey Tabs, good to see you replied here. If I may jump in Chris' topic, I'm in the same plan of upgrading my PC soon... Thing is my budget is tight and it doesn't allow me to buy the entire machine at once. So far I'm planning to buy everything BUT the videocard, which I plan to buy in around 2-3 months. Until then I'd use my old ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB. Here's what I've thought of so far: Processor: Intel Core i7 4770k @ 3.5GHz (to be overclocked) Processor Cooling: Corsair Hydro H100i Liquid Cooling Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VI Extreme or ASUS Maximus VI Formula ROG Power Supply: Corsair TX850 or AX850 Since I'm no expert at RAM memory specs, I'm in doubt between two products - Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2x8GB) 2133MHz (CMY16GX3M2A2133C11) and Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (2x8GB) 1600MHz (CMD16GX3M2A1600C9). By just looking at the numbers it seems that the Vengeance has a higher clock speed (2133MHz vs 1600Mhz of the Dominator), but the Dominator one is more expensive and has a lower latency. Which should I pick? And, what do you think about the rest of the specs? Thanks in advance.
  5. I love how you include "All Blacks livery" in your updates. Just can't wait! Keep going guys! Hope to see the SP1 & expansion released by the end of this month... Time will tell.
  6. The first one I'd fly (which I've been waiting for since I purchased the plane) is Air New Zealand's "All Blacks", no doubt. Best looking livery for the 77W in my opinion. And then well, so many others. Nearly all liveries look great in such a beautiful machine!
  7. Thank you guys for your comments. Yeah, although there're some parts I've never had before, so some help would come in handy! In reality it was mere personal taste, because it offers some good- yet not indispensable features, and because it's great looking. I have no plans for SLI / Crossfire in the near future, so I could do perfectly fine also with an ASUS Z87 Pro, it's about $100 cheaper here. Thanks for your good wishes! At some point I also considered the i5 option, but even though HyperThreading has no use in FSX, it can be useful for other programs and games when not flying. Because of that I'll stick with the 4770k for now. Indeed. As replied to Ray above, the Z87 could also do the trick. I will, since my budget doesn't me allow me to buy the video card right now. It's the most expensive component, so it'll have to wait until 2014. My 4870 could perform decently I hope. Sure: www.omarberrio.com. It's a colombian site, in Spanish. Good point. I'll do that instead. I'll read and get info about those. Since I'm not to use SLI / Crossfire, I downgraded the selection to a TX650, which is obviously cheaper and will do perfectly fine in my opinion. Thanks for the tips, any further ones are welcome!
  8. Hello everyone. My PC will become 5 years old on November 15th, so it's time for an upgrade. When I bought it back in 2008, I believed it'd run FSX maxed out with decent fps... Couldn't be more wrong  These are my current components: Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz (not overclocked) Motherboard: Intel DG31PR Video Card: 512MB MSI Radeon HD 4870 GDDR5 RAM Memory: -Unknown- 4GB DDR2 RAMs (2x2GB sticks) Hard Disk: Some 500GB Samsung @ 7.200rpm After reading opinions and reviews in several places, and watching videos, I've pre-chosen the parts I want for my new computer, which are: Processor: Intel i7 4770k @ 3.5GHz (planning to overclock it to 4.3 - 4.5GHz) Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VI Formula R.o.G. with Intel Z87 chipset (Haswell compatible) Video Card: ASUS GeForce GTX 780 3GB GDDR5 RAM Memory: 8GB (2x4GB sticks) Corsair Vengeance Blue @ 2133MHz PC3 17000 (reference CMZ8GX3M2A2133C11B) Hard Disks: Haven't decided yet the specific product; I want to buy at least 2 128GB SSDs: one for Windows and the other one for FSX, and a normal 500GB (or maybe up to 1TB) 7.200rpm disk for the rest of my files. Processor Cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H100i Power Supply: Corsair TX750M Computer Case: Thermaltake Overseer RX-I Full Tower Now, since in my country prices are way more expensive than in the U.S., for example, due to import prices and taxes, my budget doesn't allow me to buy the entire PC at once. Therefore, I'm looking forward to buying everything except the videocard, which means I'd be using the new setup with my old Radeon HD 4870. Will it be compatible? I know that if it is it'll be the bottleneck on my system, but I prefer buying the most important parts first, and then in 2014 buy the videocard which hopefully will be cheaper, or if by then the new Maxwell ones are already released, maybe stretch a little and buy one of those if it's really worth it. I'm no expert in hardware parts nor do I have enough time to do a massive research due to my job. I'm not planning to build a NASA machine either since my budget is rather tight. All I want is a good PC that can run FSX smoothly enough (right now I'm just focused on PMDG heavies), and that will last for a while. Figure that, if my current PC lasted for 5 years, this new one wouldn't have trouble for at least 2 or 3 more! That's why I post this topic. What do you guys think? Do you recommend any different (and preferably better) components? Or do you think this will do fine for what I'm looking for? By the way, I chose the 780 because I'd also like to play some other games, and in the future, maybe consider moving to Prepar3D. Thanks in advance!
  9. Please try it by yourselves guys, I tried planning a flight with the 777 profile in PFPX two days ago, and entered a CI of 20 in the Cruise/Cost Index section of the Aircraft tab. It even showed my selected CI in the OFP. Problem is that, regardless of the CI number entered, PFPX always calculated the same speeds and fuel burn / time figures, which ended up being pretty inaccurate. For instance, for that flight PFPX calculated a cruise speed of ~485 KTAS, while my actual cruise speed, calculated by the plane's FMC, was of ~390KTAS. That's right, nearly a 100 KTAS difference, which isn't certainly acceptable. I tried using different numbers for the CI in PFPX (20, 80, 100, 500), and the OFP still showed the same speeds with any. Can any of you please confirm if it's an issue from PFPX in general or just me? Thanks!
  10. Any reply to the passenger number question?
  11. Sidenote: when climbing, it's transition altitude (feet -> flight levels), and when descending (which is what you were asking for), it's transition level (flight levels -> feet). This procedure described above for setting the TL also applies for the 747.
  12. Good quesion, I wondered exactly the same when I tried the "MAX" option in the payload section.
  13. How can I do that? I have the "Online" option selected.
  14. Hello all. I am currently using FS Flight Tracker 9.5.1 for FSX by Chanticleer Software (also did for FS9 a few months ago). With it I can collect basic and useful info of my flight, such as ZFW, TOGW, LDW, off-blocks time (hh:mm format), lift off and touchdown times, max. taxi speed on departure and destination aerodromes, and several other items. Very useful for comparing my actual fuel consumption against PFPX's computed predictions, for example (by the way, let me tell you its results really amaze me, in a positive way). Now, since FS Flight Tracker is the only flight logging program I've ever used, does any of you know of or recommend another (maybe even better) program? In my opinion FSFT is very good and does its job perfectly, but I'd like to hear opinions on other programs that I most likely never heard of. Thanks!
  15. Hello all. I'm experiencing a weird issue with the 777 sound when running IvAp. When installing IvAp, I selected the option "Do not support full screen (external mode)", because I only fly in windowed mode, and, should IvAp crash, it'd crash alone and wouldn't take FSX with it, and the application could be restarted without the need of closing the simulator. Having this option disabled means it'll run internally with the simulator, and if it crashes it could make the simulator crash as well, and it if doesn't, only way to recover it is restarting the simulator anyway. When the option is disabled and IvAp runs internally, there's no problem at all with the sounds, but when it's enabled, as soon as I click on the CDU to write a message in UNICOM for example, most of the sound (say about 70% of it) disappears until I click back in the simulator itself. Is there any way to prevent this issue from happening? Thanks in advance.
  16. Nice! Even though in my opinion the All Blacks is the best looking livery for the 777, this new one (why not call it "All Whites"?) is also awesome!
  17. Hello all. Having bought the aircraft less than two days ago and still reading the documentation, I was told about Pete Dowson's FSUIPC ground friction mod ("patchsim1friction=Yes" if it rings any bell), and tried it. So far I did like it as taxiing seems more realistic and the break-away thrust required to get the aircraft moving is lower (guess that's how it's supposed to be in real life). In light weights it only takes up to 1-2% of N1 thrust above idle to get the aircraft moving, and if returned to idle thrust, the aircraft keeps mover for way longer than it did on the default friction model. Now, leaving aside the fact that in FSX all airports are flat (as far as I know there's zero slope in either aprons or runways), and considering that all the 777X development team and beta testers are well experienced people (and some even real pilots), in your personal opinion, how realistic (or unrealistic) do you consider this mod? I would like to read opinions and decide wether to leave it installed or just delete it since even though I've flown in a real A320 cockpit twice and watched the process closely, it's not the same being and observer than actually driving the plane. That and the fact that we're talking about two totally different planes. Thanks in advance! P.D.: Yes, I did use the search function but all posts I found are from the time the mod was just released, so I didn't find a solid, concluding opinion derived from exhaustive testing. Didn't find any regarding the 777X specifically either.
  18. Does / did anyone own Flight Operation Center? I've read in some forums it's very good and accurate, but so far no-one in this topic has mentioned it. I had never heard of PFPX before, but judging by the replies it's well worth it. Still, I'd like to hear some opinion about F.O.C. as well.
  19. I'm also waiting for that livery! But remember that the real All Blacks is a 777-300ER, so I bet (and hope) it'll be included in the future expansion.
  20. When I see the All Blacks livery on the -300ER that'll be it. Heart attack guaranteed
  21. The problem is, if the rumor is even true, how long will we have to wait until that happens.
  22. Japan Airlines flight 123 on August 12th, 1985; 520 fatalities, 4 survivors. I personally don't wanna hear any bad news about the A380 (even though I hate its external looks) but let's face it, after all no matter how well designed it is, it's still flown by humans, and eventually one of them will go down. Hope I'm wrong seeing the 777's record, for example, though.
