  1. PMDG has said over and over they will not do an Airbus (or it's not planned. Can't remember at the moment). Check out FSLabs when they're done with it. By the way, can someone tell me how to post a picture of the double facepalm here? I can't seem to get it to work.
  2. Identifier (waypoint, VOR, airport) slash +/- the distance from or to the identifier and then insert that to the identifier's line on the F-PLN page and then set the altitude for climb or descent. For example, I'm told to be at FL290 in a climb at 30 miles from they ORD VOR. I'd go to the F-PLN page and type in "ORD/-40. Then I would type in /290. Then I would tell the FMS is in a climb. It's in the FMS manual (FMS.100.1-2 and FMS.30.3).
  3. The most recent one is the one I mentioned (the UA/CO livery). If you search the AVSim library, I think you can find the blue livery with the tulip on the tail (which was the one they used before the merger).
  4. The post-merger United livery is essentially Continental's livery (except for the words United). They replaced the old United blue livery.
  5. It makes those long-hauls over the Atlantic more interesting. Especially landing in KEF enroute to London after a cargo fire...
  6. I was having difficulty with my contacts so I couldn't really see well and I thought AirTran only operated the 717. Sorry about that.
  7. I don't think the 717 is certified for use of a HUD. The 717 was never meant to compliment the 737. She was designed for commonality between the MD-11 and 717. So I don't think they'll redesign the entire cockpit when there is no need to. So here's a solution keep the 737 drivers on the 737 and the 717 drivers on the 717. No money needed whatsoever to train pilots (except for the maintenance people and cabin crews)or completely redesign a flight deck (which I've never heard of).
  8. Start one engine at the gate/parking spot. It may be a stupid question, but are you turning the batteries off?
  9. The 744 load manager is not like the NGX. You need to click "SAVE TO FILE" or "SEND TO FSX".
  10. I was going to say blasphemy but I read "a PMDG A330". I'd choose both if they did that.
  11. If I remember correctly, the AC BUS 1 powers the left FMS. The right FMS is now the master FMS. There should be a button (or two) on the SIS panel above the captain's oxygen mask. Press that button (can't remember the label) to have the First Officer's map on the captain's ND. I don't think it's a bug.
  12. The 744 V2 is a new-from-the-ground-up aircraft. There is nothing in common with the old and new versions. I would say close to 2013 after the T7 is released. Wait a while.
  13. When the engine fails, do not raise the nose as much as you would during a normal takeoff. Just pitch up enough to climb and maintain V2. Kick the rudder into the engine just enough to maintain wings level. Accelerate at the E/O altitude on the TO page. When avaiable, turn on the AP and deal with the appropriate checklist. I would hold at a waypoint and start dumping fuel and prepare for an emergency return. The number two engine could flame out if it isn't receiving fuel. The engine could have been damaged if you weren't taking care of the engine. Cold fuel perhaps? Other than that, I have no clue. I think the magnetic variance update found on the top of the PMDG General forum may fix this issue.
  14. I'm not an expert so disregard my saying that the V-speeds increase. For airports in the US, Flight Aware has charts on its website. For airports in Europe, go to www.ead.eurocontrol.int. You have to register but it is free. The charts are updated but may be out of date.
  15. Go to the CLIMB PERF page by pressing the PERF button. Then under EDIT insert the speed you want to fly at. After that, I think you need to press FMS SPD for the FMS to fly at that speed.
  16. I think this would become more apparent as you learn to fly the aircraft. Higher weights mean a lower altitude. Lower weights and you'll be able to initially cruise at higher levels. Look at the active runways. This will cut the number of SIDs/STARs down a bit. Then look at those that go along with your planned route. If you're taking off from LAX off 24/25 and the enroute waypoint is DAG, then you can choose the LOOP and LAX (if I remember those correctly). The speeds will increase a bit if a higher derating is chosen. Depends on airline SOP. Some use 1. Some use 5. Some use whatever is said on the pilot's paperwork.
  17. Takeoff speed up to 10,000? Are you talking about the 250 or lower under 10,000 feet? If you're heavy on takeoff, VCL is going to be over 250. Just dial the number you want on the FGS panel and pull the knob. Be careful you don't get to the speed down too far though.
  18. I'll believe it's in beta when Robert/Ryan/Vin/any other member of the team says it is here.
  19. Have you tried calibrating your throtte? I think it's called a quadrant because you control the spoilers/speedbrakes, thrust levers, flaps, and stabilizer trim there.
  20. I think the FMS is updated by the GPS receivers as a primary source. VORs, LOCs, and other navaids are secondary sources to update the position.
  21. If FSLabs can develop an A3XX where more than half of the systems are modeled, then I would buy it. But I don't think we're really going to get a high-quality Airbus, in my opinion.
  22. How are you setting TO thrust? Press the AUTOFLIGHT button before takeoff to arm the autothrottle. Also make sure that your external throttle is calibrated correctly. That is normal. The MD-11 will automatically shut off the air system for takeoff if it is set on the TO page of the FMS. You can also do it manually if the ECS system is in MANUAL mode. Nothing to do with EGT. Is your FMS correctly set up with the right numbers? Also make sure that your yoke, joystick, controller is calibrated correctly. The FLEX temp is the only way to reduce the takeoff thrust. This number is between the OAT and 70 degrees C if I remember correctly. To calculate this number takes data that is not available to anyone except Boeing, MD-11 users and their engineering departments. I would suggest the program TOPCAT to calculate this number, runway distances, stopping distances and more.
  23. You can set the alignment time for the IRS via the FMS options menu. I think there is a GPS on the 737. It just isn't the default FSX one. The only reason you would have three radios fail is if you have a complete electrical failure which is nearly impossible. The IRS ATT mode will provide heading information when it is entered and the ALIGN light is extinguished. Fly the headings you have on your flight plan (I think the default FSX planner does give these headings. So you aren't screwed if you're having a REALLY bad day.
  24. The autopilot will disconnect if there is only one autopilot for the go-around. If the second autopilot is engaged, it will not disconnect.
  25. I meant it as more of a sarcastic "wait for it"...
