  1. STB is really nice for controlling traffic in crowded areas (Like NY). I'm waiting anxiously the Prepar3D version, which is hopefully out soon.
  2. Small postioning problem here too. Noticed it at least in FSDT KLAX, where I couldn't get GSX ground services working because plane was few meters off.
  3. Stratocruiser with CoTS addon is IMO perhaps THE addon with largest immersion factor there is. It is absolutely goregous especially if you are into vintage aviation. Their B-17 is also just magnificent, although I haven't yet flown it that much. They make really nice multi pistons and there would be lots of nice warbirds and liners for them to produce even after Constellation. Dunno, perhaps vintage airliner market is niche of the niche and they get far better sales out of the warbirds.
  4. Sure, A2A connie would be great added with a CoTS type crew addon! I still think that it is very unlikely that we can get that at least in near future. A2A has at least some GA planes, F-104 and F-4 on the works and I think that'll keep them busy for the next year or two...
  5. In short: yes you do. DX 11 doesn't include DX9, it is a diffrent API all together and you have to install it separately. You can download the setup program from here: http://www.microsoft...ails.aspx?id=35
  6. It drops AI GA planes off which are flying on VFR rules: only IFR planes are displayed. You can test it yourself using traffic toolbox. You can see that there are no VFR planes on the air if IFRonly is somtehing else than zero. This affects at least default AI and MTX which is based on the same injection method.
  7. Thank you very much for the ifronly addition! I had a strange problem when I installed the V3.2 today. I tried to start my flight at couple of different airports, at runway and parking place and always flight created through launcher postioned my aircraft wrong: it was perhaps few hundred meters off where it should be and in small airport aircraft could be located in forest next to the airport even though it should have been on parking ramp. I uninstalled 3.2 and threw in 3.0 (I haven't tested 3.1, that is why I chose 3.0 which I knew was working) and it placed aircraft correctly. I don't know if this was some sort of temporary installation bug or if something is funny in newest version. I don't have more time to test V3.2 today, probably earliest in wednesday I have time to hop behind my yoke. So it's maybe nothing, but I'll test more later on.
  8. Serious flightsimming will never be part of mainstream gaming. It never has been, though it seemed so in the early days. Sims just were an integral part of the PC gaming, but mainstream gaming was focused first on 8-bit computers and consoles and later on 16-bit machines. And people were mostly playing other games, that is for sure. In the learly 90's when PC started to gain market share as a serious gaming machine, simulator titles become less and less smaller fragment of the offering. If they would be popular and a source for big bucks, simulators would be popping out constantly instead of another FPS shooter. MS FS series is probably one rare exception, which has had so wide recognition in the public in the past. It still doesn't mean that it draws a lot new people in the hobby. I know few who has bought FSX a time or another and it hasn't been even installed on their computers for ages. It is not the platform stability, lack of graphics or anything but the amount of learning and investment serious sim consumes. You just don't jump in and fly for 15 minutes for a short leasure time and enjoy flying with keyboard and mouse or with gamepad. Or you can do that, but compared to mainstream games, that gets boring pretty soon. Whole idea of simming is learning and mimicing real world aviation, something that takes time to learn. People go to school or work where they need to learn different quite tedious stuff and they don't want to do that in their free time. They want to hop in and get short relaxation with their games. FSX isn't an exception, look at DCS or Rise of Flight platforms too. Beautiful modern engines and still hardly knocking on the top sales even though doing well for a serious flight simulator. Even seroius car simulators don't do nearly so well than many of the arcade racers. I just don't see why those people not interested to FSX/XPlane or even RoF or DCS would jump to another serious sim just if it would look like Outerra. Same rules apply. And MS tried a different approach with Flight for those who "X-Plane and FSX just dosen't cut it". It looked good, had relatively low learning curve and was cheap to start with. No magical sales number there either and I just don't see how Flight would've fared any better for those people if it would have beem any harder or more realistic as we simmers hoped it should be. Simming will always be pretty small but enthusiastic crowd interested in this sort of stuff.
  9. If yuo are running P3D from SSD, don't defrag it! When it comes to scenery loading times, you really can't help it if you add more and more complex scenery: it will take more time. And for the hardware: Dude, you can't get any better. You could of course change your graphics card to GTX680, but the benefits aren't that big and your 580 should do the job just fine. When I went to GTX670 from 480, I got only marginal improvements. Responsiveness is a strange thing, because even though my P3D is loaded, I don't experience that at all.
  10. Wow! Based on the .kmz the area covered is even larger than I expected. I hope we will see more Europe from ORBX in the future (Norway, Sweden, Finland, please!).
  11. This is correct. People have sometimes strange beliefs that 64-bit computing is a holy grail. Yes, it can also improve performance, but not in general and performance benefits are in the area of encryption/decryption, compiling, encoding and HPC solutions, where large registers decrease the need to reads/writes from/to cache or memory. In fact, games are one application where performance gain is negligible. Thus with games and *ehem* simlators, the pretty much only point moving to 64-bit is the larger memory address, which of course becomes critical at some point as we have experienced. Regarding FSX/ESP/P3D, we still have to remember, that many addons running along the simulator on a separate executable, like REX weather engine, doesn't consume FSX VAS or memory space. Only modules loaded within the sim does this. Also, transition to DX10/11 will decrease the VAS usage, because with DX9 you have to have a copy of VRAM in system memory and DX9 command parts of VRAM usage needs to be mapped to process VAS. That is also the reason why DX10 users experience far less OOMs and their VAS usage is significantly lower. So, when P3D makes the transition to DX11 with their 2.0 version during the 2013, change in graphics rendering engine also alleviates memory consumpiton, not giving full remedy of course.
  12. Your launcher keeps getting better and better! One thing, would it be possible to add checkbox for ifronly setting? There is this ifronly-setting in prepar3d.cfg which, if not set to zero, causes P3D not to show any general aviation AI aircraft using VFR rules. Bigger problem is, that after changes in display settings, P3D for some reason reverts ifronly back to some other value than 0. So, I was wondering if you could spare time to add a checkbox for ifronly=0 setting, which if checked, would write to prepar3d.cfg when launching the sim. Lockheed has promised to fix this thing with next release, but it may take a while and until next release we are stuck with this bug.
  13. </Launch.Addon> was missing from your own copy paste. CoolP's is different from yours.
  14. Sim-outhouse forum is great place if you are interested in vintage and also modern military aviation for FSX. Flightsim.com is one good site and has really good file library for freeware gems. Must have addons list is too big to mention in one post. For continental US good scenery start package would be Ground Environment X and Utlimate Terrain X. For sceneries in general, pretty much everything from ORBX is high quality stuff, same is with Pacific Island Simulations. Many if not most of the Aerosoft stuff is of high quality and MegasceneryX has some nice photoscenery. Aerosoft, FlyTampa and FSDT have some terrific single airports all around the world. For aircraft some "trusted" publishers are A2A, Classics-Hangar, Warbirdsim, Flight Replicas, Lionheart, PMDG and Milviz just to mention few. Also many Aerosoft, Iris and Razbam planes are good ones.
  15. You are missing </Launch.Addon> after AI Carriers.
  16. Maybe that means that DX11 P3D is knocking on the door
  17. I've also been using 2.3 version this evening and for me, everything seems to work perfectly. Once again, you made this seemingly small app that is still one of the best utilities available for P3D: it simply makes using P3D a nice experience. Thank you so much!
  18. Opus sure looks nice on those pics. However, I don't suffer drom that unlimited visibility with REXE+ OD. Even with clear weather I have pretty nice "fade" to haze. Does Opus demo have all the goodies in Wx so it gives full picture of all the features. Can I also use just Opus Wx as I'm not that interested in other features and I've also heard of some trouble wiht ezdok and TIR.
  19. Oh yes, but of course, stupid me! I have just used launcher few days and always loaded a flight on parking and this didn't come in to my mind at all. For the day time selection, I'm pretty sure it worked a couple of versions ago, but I'm not completely sure. Magnificent little app you have made and it really improves things with P3D as I said. Cheers!
  20. I have also bit problems with my launcher and P3D. If I edit the flight I can't get to aircraft selection tab, tab just doesn't work. However, if I choose new, I can select aircraft like I should. Also in Time of Day selection all but Dawn and Night selections don't "stick", that is selection cursor jumps from Day to night after selection. This doesn't affect anything else but preview as Local Time and UTC stay where they should. I have also experienced few freezes, but nothing major. Also for some reason, launcher stopped launching my P3D. I'm pretty sure that my first launcher (1.7 or 1.8?) worked normally and I got these bugs after last couple of updates, but I'm not completely sure. I test earlier versions again during this weekend. Still, big thanks as this utility really helps with P3D!
  21. Issues is somewhat strong word here if not truly knowing the guy, but this just sounds so Justin He's been complaining before and there is nothing new here. It doesn't actually bother me although first I was a bit surprised. I have GalaxyXpress subscription myself and I like FSGenesis meshes a lot and have many of them installed. They really ramp up the scenery and with some Class9 landclass installed, even default scenery looks great. I couldn't fly without them anymore. One thing just puzzles me that if meshes are selling poorly (which I don't completely bite), why FSGenesis don't do partner up with scenery designers who need high quality mesh for their work? You would think that with the reputation FSGenesis has scenery makers would gladly team up.
  22. Many of have also invested big bucks to addons, so new platform really should offer huge improvement over souped up FSX. I've tested many versions of XP10 demo's and I think it is great sim platform, but my biggest gripes about it are lack of AI (max 20 planes or so) and that most airports lack buildings. Scenery is probably something that can be improved with addons: city sceneries just don't look right. Of course addons require another investment, a start from scratch again after FSX. I'm not even sure that XP has addons comparable to GEX/UTX or ORBX series which improve large areas. FSX has also huge advantage over available addons, whether they'd be sceneries, planes or utilities. But X-plane's multiplatform game engine seems still terrific and it is evolving all the time, which may of course be a bad thing for devs. 64-bit version should be out pretty soon and I'll keep my eye on where it is going.
  23. I tried this with Prepar3D and with mod it ends every time in start to d3d.dll crash. There wasn't any errors in the log and I also tried to fiddle with ingame/inspector/SweetFX AA settings, but no go: always crash at start.
  24. Those two display entries don't affect negatively. FSX creates 0.0 entry for DX10, so you can have different AA and aniso settings for DX9 and DX10. They do not cause blurries in any way. I'd suggest OP to delete CFG and let the FSX create a clean one and then apply tweaks along Word Not Allowed's guide, which mainly is BP=0 and perhaps AM used with internal limiter. Every other "tweak" just causes trouble.
