  1. I feel pretty much the same about the clouds in REX OD. Just pick the fluffiest looking of the non-HD ones.
  2. No, this: Yes, it's almost as old as the sim, it has no fancy effects, quality is awful by today's standards and I hate the music more than I hate most things in life (not The Valkyrie though), but it still is the only fun FSX video ever made.
  3. Silliest thing I've heard in a good while. Why don't you just delete that profile then if you feel that your computer had been defiled by it simply because it was given to you in an act of pure kindness buy a guy who once committed the heinous crime of pissing off an administrator of an internet forum?
  4. This is not just a temporary glitch in their service though. They are knowingly providing a service that doesn't work; a store that accepts payment and then directs the customer to a dead download link. Now, I'm very sure it's in no way out of malice that they're doing this but it is irresponsible and they need to fix it before it causes any damage to their reputation. At the very least replace the checkout page with one that links to the Flight1 wrapper downloads rather than to Paypal. Let me finish by saying that I don't dislike McPhat in any way and I know they make some really nice stuff and I am not intending to discourage anyone from buying anything from they. I'm just hoping they will take their responsibility as professionals and fix this.
  5. What kind of nonsense is that? They have a store up and running that is functional up to and including the point where they actually take your money so it's their responsibility to make sure the rest works as well, or take the store down completely. It doesn't matter how small their team is or how nice the things they make are. Yes, I know it says "Do NOT order via our store" on the product details page but why doesn't it say so on the store front or after you click the "Add to cart" button? Sure the OP should have been sensible enough to read the product details before going through with the purchase but that's not really an excuse for McPhat to leave their website in this state, with a store that will take your money but do nothing else.
  6. Nothing wrong with you as far as I can tell, although if you want to enjoy your flying more I'd say just turn off that GPS!
  7. I think most people in that situation believe they could have handled it...
  8. Too modern for me. This is what a Cherokee dash should look like! B)
  9. No worries. I'm hopelessly behind in the popularity contest anyway.
  10. You mean like getting together on a server and actually being able to see each other in the air? Wow, there's a groundbreaking concept! But wouldn't that require a degree of social interaction slightly beyond anonymously posting on a forum? That's not something the flightsim community seems too interested in given the fate of the AVSIM TeamSpeak server.
  11. I suppose what they tell you in aviation ground school about always treating an engine as if it could fire any time does not apply to crotch-clenched chainsaws.
  12. Damn you, Badfinger! I'm recovering from surgery and even a minor chuckle hurts like hell, although probably not as much as it would hurt if that guy got his saw running! Thanks for livening up my day even if it nearly killed me. :LMAO:
  13. Well, it may not be the most solid piece of software ever released but... http://forum.avsim.net/topic/409034-hows-fsx-working-for-you/
  14. Made me feel like having a smoke.
  15. Don't keep your hopes up. It's not that MS don't care about flight sims or simmers, it's just that MS is, and I know this may blow some peoples minds, a profit driven company and as long as the people who provides it's income (the consumers) don't give a toss about flight sims neither will MS. I would love that. Flight was pretty much right up my alley. Low altitude tearing about over well-modelled terrain kinda like what I enjoy doing in the Baytower RV-7 over Orbx PNW but with a framerate that belongs in the 21 century and with a bit of purpose. Also multiplayer was a lot of fun. Sadly most people are too focused on job simulators so without any tubeliners in it it was doomed from the word "Go".
  16. Indeed. Pirates rarely ask for permission before helping themselves to your stuff.
  17. As an example I often take the club planes to and from a service workshop at an airfield 42 nm north from here. It doesn't have any VOR, only two NDB serving as fixes for instrument approaches and because the flight is less than 30 minutes all I put in the flight plan is "DCT SS" (SS being the nearest beacon when coming from the south). Another route I often fly is ESGJ to ESSV. At ESGJ we have a VOR called JON and at ESSV there is one called VSB. The route is 138 nm and magnetic track is almost exactly 90 degrees. Because ATC requires you to have at least one waypoint every 30 minutes of flight in your flight plan my filed route is "DCT JON090045 DCT VSB270045 DCT VSB". The waypoints indicate radial and distance from the stated VORs. SIDs and STARs are things you don't really want to use as it's a waste of time and fuel but if the ATC demands it you have no choice but to follow them. Usually you'll just get vectors to final but it depends on airport size and traffic density of course.
  18. Nothing strange about it. You just don't bother with airways. When I fly IFR for real I never follow airways because it's a waste of time and the planes I fly don't really like it up there anyway. For very short flights I often file altitude rather than flight level.
  19. It's the best rendition for a C172 that there's ever been for a PC flight sim, but that doesn't mean it's for everyone. Good as it is it's still just a 172 and if tubeliners is your thing then this most likely isn't. As for the learning curve there really isn't one. It's no harder to fly than the default C172, there are just more things to do if you so desire.
  20. @LAdamson: Everything you say is true, but I still think being a magenta slave is boring and I will never use GPS for leisure flight unless I get hopelessly lost, which hasn't happened yet and hopefully never will. That said I'm mainly talking about VFR here, which is something I always do with map and compass simply because I enjoy it. Sure using GPS is more efficient but who cares? I don't find flying so boring that I'm desperate to shave every minute possible off the en-route segment. IFR is a different thing and I mainly see that as a means to improve my chances of getting home as planned even if the weather has worsened overnight, in which case I might as well use GPS if I have it, but even then I'll still have more fun using radio navigation, and having fun is why I fly.
  21. Felt pretty much the same after buying their Avanti a couple of years back ...
  22. Briefly? We didn't always have GPS. And besides, GPS is boring.
  23. Pretty much exactly why I don't bother with online ATC either. In real life ATC serves the purpose of improving flight safety and I've always felt that it's nice to know someone is there on the other end if something goes wrong. In flight sims however it's something I'm happy to not having to deal with. If you like flying small props you might wanna log onto the AVSIM teamspeak server and join the Back Country Prop Club room. There are people online most days, mainly when it's evening in Europe.
  24. Indeed, your modesty greatly exceeds you landing skills, Ron. B)
