  1. Hehe, no broken bones yet but my niece talked me into renting a snowboard so there's still hope of an extended vacation. Indeed, the RV is a competent little plane but more than anything it's about having fun. The Legacy is all in all probably the better kit but I feel that it lacks a sense of humour. I'd still have the RV any day.
  2. If the RV-7 and the Lancair Legacy went on a long and boring bus ride together the Legacy would pass the time trying to find a solution to global warming while the RV would make obscene noises and moon passing motorists. Which plane is best for you depends on your personality.
  3. Nah, let them have their ego-boost. Seems like they need it and it's not like it's hurting that Snave guy in any way.
  4. Depending on your internet connection it may be beneficial. Personally I haven't used any download managers since I ditched dial-up and there's never been any problems.
  5. Seems like the reports of the rudeness of flight simmers are greatly exaggerated. Merry Christmas, Mephic.
  6. I still disagree and believe that having to make a number of forced posts in a subforum that doesn't interest them is more efficient at scaring away new members than the seemingly infinite list of forums available to them. If anything I think that list gives the impression of a well organized site where you don't have to wade through tons of irrelevant threads to find what you're interested in. But if you really think it's such a problem maybe you should focus on streamlining a bit rather than adding more. Additionally I think you're a wee bit patronizing towards the user base here. It's not a "real challenge" for anyone intelligent enough to get through the registration process to find the subforums he's interested in.
  7. I think it's a bad idea to restrict new members to a small part of the forum. Not everyone who comes here are new to flightsims and they don't want to be locked out of the discussions that interests them until they've got their post counts up or otherwise have proven themselves worthy. Most likely they will just go somewhere else instead. As a means to fight the rampant rudeness that apparently plagues Avsim these days I don't think a newbie section is the right way to go either. It may have it's benefits but on the whole I think it's rather unnecessary. Better to just adopt a more stringent policy against pointless RTFM and GIYF posts and such.
  8. On the other hand we have a bunch of old dogs complaining that the new kids don't take it seriously enough. "It's a sim, not a game" and all that nonsense. So which is it? I'm with you on this one, by the way. A slightly more relaxed attitude towards the hobby wouldn't hurt. Edit: Just to clarify: I do not have a problem with people taking flight sims seriously. I just have a problem with those few who can't accept others not sharing their view and uses th phrase "It's a sim, not a game" as a fact rather than an opinion.
  9. Whenever you get a feeling that a certain community is just full of a--holes and s---heads it generally helps to spend a few minutes reading YouTube comments. Be warned though that prolonged exposure may cause you to lose any faith in humanity that you previously had.
  10. And in my opinion the best thing about MechJeb is that it's entirely optional. B)
  11. Hi Guenter. Thanks for the comments and for trying out my program. The reason why I don't want to mess with fltsim.0 is that the program uses it as reference when importing new repaints and changing it may possibly create problems during that process. Therefore I want to keep fltsim.0 as the plane makers made it, besided the ui_manufacturer key of course. I can see you point though if you have hundreds of variations and don't want to show them all in FSX but still being able to select your favourite ones quickly. Being able to easily change the order of the fltsim sections is something I've thought about but haven't got around to do yet. For the moment I'd just like to have this version tested and uploaded to the library so I can focus on other stuff for a while.
  12. Hello again! New version ready for testing. The biggest change is that I've completely rewritten the entire importing procedure. The new one can handle multiple files (just ctrl-click files in the file selector) in one go and also handles files that contains more than one repaint as long as all directory names are unique. It will also do a more thorough job looking for template fltsim sections in text files. Minor features added includes an option to set .air file to use in case for instance an add-on developer decided to change the name of said file in an update thereby causing problems with repaints made before the update. I've also added an easy way to edit [views]eyepoint in aircraft.cfg. Before I upload the new version to the library I'm looking for a few brave souls who are willing to put their sanity and FSX installations at risk for no reward whatsoever. Download link is here: https://db.tt/XRhUfFLY
  13. Here's your answer: It's just human nature. Solution? Just ignore it and go for a flight using whatever platform you like.
  14. Now I know what the new rep system needs! A "No s***, Sherlock" button.
  15. Looks like it's got more realistic crashes than FSX at least.
  16. I don't know why Skorna was banned from posting in that particular thread but personally I didn't see anything that I would describe as abusive. I would rather say it was all those people who kept downvoting every post he made because his opinion about the popularity system and the way he expressed it didn't go down well with them who were abusing a system. One of Skorna's posts apparently got deleted and I can only hope it was because of what he wrote there that he got locked out out the thread. I truly hope that the admins aren't taking popular opinion into account but relying solely on their own good judgement when deciding who gets the boot.
  17. I just want to say that anyone who's interested in joining in can do so by logging onto the AVSIM teamspeak server and enter the BCPC channel at the bottom. There are people on most days. Usually evenings european time. A word of warning though: A reasonable tolerance for people not always talking sense may be required. Also don't bring a jet!
  18. Do you seriously believe that the thought of getting a few downvotes have ever deterred anyone from speaking their mind? There are a few here who are more outspoken than most and they generally don't care about popularity points. They are on the other hand not actively out to annoy anyone either but because some people are more easily offended than others there will always be a certain amount of crying over what they have to say. Yes, there is a very small but very vocal minority who are actively trying to offend people but to be honest I have very, very, very rarely seen any of them here. There are however a number of people who always gets highly offended every time someone expresses a contrary opinion. Those people are for some reason also often the quickest to resort to namecalling, sarcasm and twisting of words.
  19. The popularity points system wasn't taken down because one person was against it. It was taken down because of the way people who were for it responded to the person who was against it. By the way, I'm not a fan of JSkorna and his 20000+ posts weights less to me than a fart in space. still, I've never seen him referring to another community member as an "ahole"...
  20. Not only works but makes a lot more sense too.
  21. It's probably the first time since I joined Avsim that this happens but I strongly agree with Jim on this one.
  22. For those reasons, no. For getting upset about my post, yes.
