I am experiencing the same problem. On September 21, I returned home from an 18 day trip. During that time no one had access to my machine. When I left, Flight was working fine, and I had signed in the day before my departure. When I returned, the splash screen would come up, but it wouldn't let me sign in, and gave the following error messages: MS Flight sign-in attempt yields this error message: "The profile could not be signed in to LIVE. There may be a network problem or the Windows Live ID service may not be available." There is also a GFWL error message when I click on MS Games for Windows Marketplace: "The client must point to the same Windows Live ID environment as the Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant service." I do not now, nor have I ever had an XBOX Live account. My machine is running Windows 8.1 I have done the following: 1. Made sure my network connection is functioning correctly--it is. 2. Made sure I am signed in to Outlook.com--I am. 3. I have tried clicking on Games for Windows Marketplace before and after entering the Flight program. Either way, it gives the above error message. 4. One of the options in the Sign In dialog box is "Sign in with Another Account." I tried that using another user ID I have for Outlook.com. It worked fine and treated me as a brand new user with no history. It issued me a new user ID and started me on the initial training flight around the balloons. Now I can't get rid of that account. UPDATE: i FOLLOWED WINJIMON'S ADVICE ABOUT "UNCHECK REMEMBER PASSWORD" AND THE SIGN-IN WORKED PERFECTLY. Thanks winjimon Dean

From Kavinda's table, it would appear that nobody will ever reach level 50 before Flight has gone the way of the dinosaur. Probably not even level 40, either... ...unless a mysterious benefactor with deep pockets buys the rights to Flight, and keeps all the servers online, which is about as likely as pigs growing wings and flying like a pegasus...only it'd be a pigasus.

Thanks Paul. Now all the points I've piled up have a bit more meaning. I'm at level 30, and I still have over 300,000 points to go for level 31. It appears you've set the jumps at this level to 1,000,000. That means, with an average of about 3,000 points per mission, I'll only have to complete about 110 more missions...or Flight disappears, whichever comes first. Happy flying, all... Dean So if it's a million points per level, at an average of ~3000 points per mission I only need to complete ~6,666 more missions (give or take) to get to level 50. Piece of cake if I work at it 12 hours a day for the next few years. NOT!

I had the same experience as AlbacoreTunaMan, and have had no problems since agreeing to the new terms of use.

I recently upgraded my Windows 8 machine to Windows 8.1, and the first thing I noticed was that a couple of my icons had disappeared from the desktop. They were the ones associated with using G-Plan and Gmaps with FSWidgets as a GPS for my activities in MS Flight. Even worse, not only did I lose the icons, but I seem to have lost the function as well. MS Flight still works great, but I can't seem to find a way to bring up the FSWidgets window during a flight. I used to have it set up so that when I started Flight, I could also start FSWidgets and then I could open/close the inset window with a ctrl-shift-z command. I have checked the obvious. G-Plan v3 and Gmaps are still installed and working fine on their own. I still have the FSWidgets download in my Downloads folder, but can't see that it's actually set up and functioning anywhere else. But now it only works with FSX (which it was designed for). Has anyone else done this Windows 8 upgrade and found the same problem? Any simple solutions short of starting over from square one?

Moe-- I clearly stated in my post that gave you the link to HAXIGE, that the download link on that site is a dead link. You have already been given the necessary files in the link provided by AirWaysMan (the first answer to your original question). The ONLY thing you need to do on the link I gave you is READ the info provided by HAXIGE, which tells you how and where to install those files along with some helpful hints on how to play that saved game. Read it fully and carefully and follow the instructions.

Hah! I ran the saved game again, this time with more control input during the first 200,000 feet and found that my Reverse Speed record has increased to 1,242 knots. That's close to Mach 2 in reverse. All the other stats remained unchanged.

On the Career page of MS Flight, I found some interesting and spectacular statistics after the fall from the fringe of space: Max Positive G-force: 42.2 Gs Max Negative G-force: 22.3 Gs Highest Altitude: 303,261 feet Fastest Forward Speed: 2,173 knots Fastest Reverse Speed: 946 knots That reverse speed was achieved in the first 100,000 feet while the plane was least controllable.

Correction: the file uses FSX type files, but HAXIGE has hacked them to be used as a saved game in MS Flight. Took me a while to figure it out, but HAXIGE explains how to use it and where to put the files in his blogspot, here: http://haxige.blogspot.com/ Don't bother trying to download his zip file from that page because it is a dead link. In fact, the blogspot hasn't been updated for about a year and a half. Using this "saved game" you start at 300,000 feet in an Icon A5. After you're in the saved game, pause and switch to the Mustang. I got the Mach 2 & 3 badges on the way down, along with a couple of others. I had already achieved Mach 1 in the regular free flight mode by placing the Mustang over the peak of Mauna Loa, then climbing to the Mustang's service ceiling and pointing it straight down with full throttle over the ocean. The G's are massive on the pullout...real world would have destroyed the pilot and the plane. Thanks for the file, AirWayMan

Hey, Steve-- I've tried both of your Lost caches, but get no indication of success. I understand that there's no marker, but is there still supposed to be a yellow flash with success?

The demo is by Graphine, a European company....NOT Microsoft, and it's specifically aimed at the future of DirectX allowing computers to graphically display massive amounts of graphic data (in this instance over 32GB) using some kind of tiled or tiling architecture. As the MS guy said in the first video, it will eventually allow even more photo-realistic graphics for gaming.

Good one, Steve... That lighthouse is a useful visual when running clandestine cargo at night in and out of Princeville. And up close and personal it's a nice looking lighthouse that I'd take a photo of if I were in that part of the Pacific.

That was a strange cache... I positioned my plane flying west along the Napali Coast close to the cliffs and never saw the yellow marker, but suddenly, while flying at about 200 feet altitude, I got the yellow flash and the credit for the AOTD. No challenge whatsoever...perhaps it should have been rated one star instead of three.

Thanks guys -- I was looking in all the wrong places. I thought they'd be saved to some subfolder in the Flight program files. Interestingly, I also looked for guidance on this subject in the Flight user's guide (pdf) and, while it said that V was the screenshot key, it didn't say where the pictures went.

When I press V to take a screenshot, where does the captured image go? What is the file type? What directory? I've searched this forum and can't find a direct answer. Appreciate any help... Thanks, Dean

Thanks for the info, guys... I am certain that whatever it is, it is NOT initiated by the host. I set up my own session just to see what I got and everyone who came in was level 44. There was a post by kittychix (?) earlier today about server maintenance, and I think it may have to do with that, since virtually everyone in multiplayer is now showing the 44 Level. Good to be here, Air1. I too am an old stick and rudder GA guy. In my youth, 1960s through the 1980s, I was a CFI at a couple of FBOs; also delivered new and used planes around the country to their new owners, then later flew small charters for another FBO. I'm new to the flight simulator world, but it certainly is a lot of fun and brings back a lot of fond old memories. I found my old skills and judgement came back rather quickly.

Multiplayer may have been hacked. I was in several different multiplayer sessions today, and every one of them had at least one player with a Level 44 rating, and NO experience points of any kind. One session had ten players, and every one of them showed the fictitious Level 44 rating. I spoke to several of them and they said they had no idea why it was showing that way. I found some of them in other sessions later, and they had their regular rating (1 thru 20) back with all their experience points showing. Anyone seen this weirdness before? I just left the session a few minutes ago that had all players with a level 44. Everyone's labels and flight characteristics seemed normal, but when you look at them in the menu....44s. I'm a bit concerned that this may be some kind of hack that may mess with our accounts, stats, and other things.

Yeah, that was weird and surprising that it showed up this morning...but even weirder was that there were TWO Hinalele Falls icons at different points up that valley. I got both of them and got credit for both. Did you see the second one? I had gotten Hinalele Falls a while back as a routine grab while tooling around Kauai, so I didn't expect credit for the second one, but it came in as a good get anyway...go figure. I guess it has something to do with the fact that they repeat caches every now and then...

Hey guys --thanks for the quick response. Makes for some interesting backward flying / hovering with full flaps on the RV6A.

Today in a multiplayer session, the host had set steady 68 knot winds at Upolu airstrip. It was great fun, but I was never able to contact him to find out what settings he used to achieve those wind speeds. Does anyone know what settings to use for these high winds?
