  1. So, sit in the back/jump seat. We don't really care where you sit. In the United States of America where I fly you can sit where you damn well please! Just hope you can reach the pedals. Best BaldyB
  2. I found that adjusting you position so your actually sitting in the seat makes a world of difference. After taking out a ASUS 380 4 gig vid card and replacing it with a RX-480 with 8 gig made an even bigger difference. Flyinsides message board has an article explain how to permanently position yourself in the aircraft. Each aircraft is different regarding the settings, once done you will always land in that seat when you fly. You are 100% correct in what you say, VR is the future as long as you don't get motion sickness, gee, just like real life! Best BaldyB
  3. I said Intel couldn't make a graphics chip that was worth putting on a card. Didn't say that about NVidia! I do not run the 480 in cross fire, don't give a hoot about that! My $230.00 480 looks as good as my friends NVidia 970, 10xx does as far as I can see. And by the way, they agree and were surprised. My eyes are my guide! I did not make any claims to actual performance regarding AMD's RYZEN CPU's or upcoming platforms. I simply stated that the design looks good. Of course you wait to see how good! AMD did show at an event how they were running a war game next to an Intel high end cpu and matching it's performance, they must have been cheating right? If and when I spend a grand on a video card it had better be something real special and make coffee too. When I use Flyinside VR I can read the gauges with no problems, period. I owned a computer store, a networking company, wired many a building. I made a ton of money writing POS systems with Paradox 3.5. Wrote many systems for Machine Shops, so the manager could get on a computer and tell a customer in what stage of completion his job was in and when he could expect to receive it, all without getting out of his chair, some shops had 100's of jobs in progress. I had computers long before Mr. Watson from IBM said their is no market or use for personal computers. But thanks for the sdvise. Best BaldyB Denis Bolduc
  4. Doesn't matter if it's slightly worse. When coupled with AMD's Vega graphics it will be something Intel cannot beat. Intel cannot develop a graphics chip worth putting on a card, what they have on board is a joke. I suppose that's the reason they just made a deal with AMD/ATI for better imbedded graphic chips? I have owned high end NVidia Cards, paid $600.00+ way back for a 6800 GTX. It was good when NVidia fixed the drivers, before that it stuttered, crashed a few time Etc. All that is understandable to a point. With AMD I never had stuttering, crashes, but even tho the picture was not as crisp at times I never had a problem with fluidity or OOM's, even at low FPS. The Queen II with my recent $230.00 RX-480 is stunning in all respects. The VC textures are so sharp it's amazing. I don't mind paying at all for a product that's worth the money, the Queen in my opinion is worth every cent, as is the 480. My old ASUS Sabertooth V1 with AMD 8053 is getting old but it still does a good job @4.4GH with the new 8GB vid card. When I do a new build it will be a killer machine, I guarantee it! 5. PMDG is the best of the best! Case closed. Happy Flying. BaldyB Denis Bolduc
  6. As I have posted before, I'm waiting for AMD's new CPU and Vega graphics. I am running an AMD 8350 and just added a ATI RX-480. The difference is quite noticeable. Just fired up the Queen II's Tutorial to show my grand son in-law the bird and let him try his hand. Sitting at KDEN with AS16 I am seeing 30-35 FPS, did not expect that. The RX-480 also handles VR very well. Always get a card with 8GB of vid memory. For a $230.00 video card how can you go wrong? As usual PMDG has blown the competition away. The 747 has always been my favorite! Best BaldyB Denis Bolduc
  7. If the first 4 core are multi threaded it could make a huge difference. Single threaded app's don't care where the threads come from. thread scheduling with logical look ahead features as AMD I believe explained could be a real winner. The whole deal looks very good to me but like everyone says, the proof is in the pudding! Or was that my grandmother? She did make very good putting! Best BaldyB Denis Bolduc
  8. Vince has electronic caulking compound to rectify those types of issues! Best BaldyB Denis Bolduc
  9. Sorry for not updating sooner. I have been busy, We moved late last summer into a different home and got a good deal on it, repairs required of course! I am the type who sticks his nose into everything, never brought my car to a mechanic, became one. Never hired an electrician, became a reasonable one and studied the code. Same with plumbing, ETc. So, it needed a new 200 Amp service, did that myself, including hooking up the power drop to the weather head. Got Misibisi Mini Split units 5 for the house and 1 for me. Built new cabinets for the kitchen with Formica Calcutta Marble counter tops with a farmhouse sink. All out of wood, hate particle board. Needed a slew of minor repairs. I'll be 82 in a few weeks so I don't move as fast as I like! I did purchase another sensor from Oculus's site, took forever, could not find it elsewhere at the time. I found tracking was improved and placed the sensors at a bout a 45 degree angle and about 3' from my head. I need to build a workstation better suited for VR and will do so soon. I re-installed PMDG's 737 NGX and found Flyinside could handle it better, not bad at all. Like half or more of the FS universe I purchased PMDG's 747 V3 yesterday. I have not heard much nor have I had a chance to fly it. Putting European style hinges on cabinet doors at the moment. My daughter the painter is waiting! I intend to wait and see what AMD Ryzen and it's new Vega has to offer. It looks real good so far. Is another TBird type CPU coming soon? The RX-480 turned out to be a good investment for the money. Flyinside needs more work but is still stunning. I have it set up to be usable for now. Wish I had more time but am eager to get out of the cellar for meals, cooking Etc. It is a clean cellar but Coleman stoves are better for camping! Between the Samsung Multi Fuel $3,000.00 stove and a high end Samsung dishwasher came out to about what I paid for the first house I bought, Crazy, no? I will keep you posted as best I can. Best BaldyB Denis Bolduc
  10. Did you consider PM'ing Robert for the answer to your question. Do you think the kind of development effort with a multitude of folks working on a HIGH END product who are professional grade people should not enjoy some sort of compensation? I was an Operating Engineer by trade. Never built cabinets! My daughter could not afford to hire a cabinet maker. She was willing to go with particle board. I said no, I WILL BUILD YOU WOODEN Cabinets. I did so. She is extremely happy and satisfied, so am I. The laminate Marble counter tops with a farm house sink and new soft close drawers and cabinet doors are what she considers art! So do others who looked! So my advice to anyone who is not happy build your own!!! Best BaldyB Denis Bolduc
  11. The first time I saw the 747 was in Boston s Logan Int. I was on the observation deck 2 stories high, not household dimensions! The pilots were looking down at me. I could not believe my eyes. Much bigger than my Piper Colt I was flying at that time. No rubber bands on that landing gear! Best BaldyB Denis Bolduc
  12. Why go with a boxed version of FSX? The Steam Edition has been re-compiled and re-optimized, also it's been set up to handle VAS and memory management in a much more efficient manner. I find it much smoother and fluid Etc. My boxed version has been sitting on the shelf for ages. When the grand kids grow up a bit more I will build em a machine and let them play with it. Send me a PM, maybe I can help you! Your choice of course. Best BaldyB
  13. Kyle. With all due respect, sometimes it's tough to find that leaky faucet after the house has collapsed! When I installed a new SSD why would I not re-install my OS and flight sim software? Having done what I described has created a much better environment, that I will swear is so on a stack of bibles. Best BaldyB Denis Bolduc
  14. I will try to make this as quick and painless as possible. Multiple installs on a machine into different directory's Etc. results registry key's being created, set, and not reset. The end result is side by side FSX, FSX-SE installs were a problem for me. Lousy frames, lousy load times, lousy memory handling. For years we installed in C:FSX to get around the [permissions that were coded into Program Files(X86). With FSX it was a solution! For FSX-SE it is not needed. Dovetail recompiled and fixed those issues, No need to worry about permissions!!! Dovetail made some enhancements to VAS usage and memory handling routines, like releasing memory of terrain you flew over and are most likely to not see again. OK, those are all good things, wouldn't you agree? To realize FSX-SE benefits as they now stand! Uninstall your flight sim software. If you have a dedicated HD or SSD reformat it and install FSX-SE from Dovetails site. Once you create an account your good to go and FSX_SE will always be in your library and RE-Down loadable whenever you need it after installing a new OS or whatever. When D-Loading let it go into C:Program File (X86), no need to worry about user control at all! After installing adjust your Windows Firewall for permission to allow FSX to use. Adjust any virus programs exception to leave FSX alone. Remember by reformatting and re-install you are creating new accurate registry entry's. On a Stand alone FSX-SE installation you will be pleased to know that your file names are FSX, NOT, FSX-SE. You will see User/ your name/common/ FSX. Not FSX-SE! Your files will be in C:steam/ steam apps/FSX. You will find with a clean FSX-SE install a somewhat higher performance and all the other benefits I pointed out above. The most pronounced effect for me was the fluidity, much, much, more fluid. I also installed into a new install of Windows 10. I had no problems with Win 10 at all. I found it to be faster, more stable and has a better networking facility than Win 7. You can turn off a lot of crap you don't need or want, your choice. Your PMDG installer will work flawlessly as will or Operations Center and Livery functions Etc. I have never enjoyed my PMDG aircraft before doing what I have described. That I DO know! Best BaldyB Denis Bolduc.
  15. Remember way back when MS was sued by IBM? On the surface both OS's looked identical but MS won the suit because the code was written using different syntaxes and wording,to make it simple. The judge could make no sense of it. To his eyes the code was completely different in all respects and stated so. No copy there said he. I have written apps that would come crashing down without a certain function or argument, then during optimization that function argument or whatever was never used. At that point you could get rid of it? Best BaldyB
  16. Go to flyinside-fsx.com. You will see Support/ Manual/ Message Board. Also info about Flyinside and Leap Motion Etc. Sorry if I offended anyone, just thought any info about VR is interesting. Will no longer post on Airosoft forum! BaldyB
  17. Right on Steve. A few guys at MIT loaded a glass slide that was backlit with sand grains until no light was visible looking down at the slide. They actually counted the darn grains, it was a tedious job! The slide was 1" x 1" , from that they calculated the fact that an 8 lane highway from LA to Boston could not hold ! Trillion grains of sand laid out in that way. Nowhere close. At that point they calculated that the total grains of sand visible to the eye from an airplane flying over both US coasts would not see 1 Trillion grains of sand? Best BaldyB
  18. With Flyinside you can fix your eyepoint for any aircraft on a permanent basis. Once fixed it stays there. Look at Flyinsides message board, they explain the whole procedure. I posted my results, perhaps I wasn't clear enough? It is nice to not have to make any adjustments for eyepoint or position every time you fly. If I remember right you can download the Wiki user manual that also has what you need. Best BaldyB
  19. The Rift CV1 lenses need to be upgraded and adjustable both vert., and on the horizontal plain, expense??? You need a top notch video card with 8GB of memory. I found a vast difference between my RX-480 8gb And the R-980 4GB. I saw no screen door effect with either card. I am waiting to see AMD's new CPU and Vega GPU's before making a major upgrade! As whitav8 stated, your eyepoint adjustment is very important. If you use Fl;yinside you will see your view. eyepoint change positions every time you change a view window. In other words if you go from VC view to outside and back (like I did) you may find your self going lower and lower each time. You then get a marvelous view of the bogees and the underside of the center console construction details etc. How to fix: Navigate to Flyinside installation directory. You will find an Aircraft CFG. Folder. In my case I opened the 777-200 fv freighter version. You will find a long list of various parameters, about half way down just before a slew of camera views you will find the 'VIEWS" section. It will have a string of 3 numbers. The first is a reference number 80' in front of the airplane. The first for me was 80.125, reducing the number by a fraction put me closer to the seat, another slight adjustment put me IN the seat. The second string was 1.825, adjust for left and right!. The third string adjusts up and down. I could not see over the damn panel to see the runway, kind of hard to take off like that! My first adjustment had my head sticking out of the top of the cockpit, another adjustment was needed. After you complete the adjustments they will not move around on you. Things are stable with regard to your position across all views, You will also notice better reading of textures on you panels, your sitting closer. I also notice my adjustment seemed to carry over from PMDG's 777-200 to the PMDG 737-NGX. The NGX seems to be a bit easy on Flyinside than the 777. Set your resolution in FSX to your native monitor resolution and match it in Flyinside's setup. Found that to work best. There are a slew of settings and bindings etc., in Flyinside. Flyinside is Beta, Dan Church is working his butt of to build a first class/world class VR application. I personally think he deserves some support. It's not a lot of money! Of course as some of you know the HTC or Oculus (I use Oculus) equipment is a bit expensive now but will come down in time. After playing around for a few hours and doing the needed adjustments I decided to go for broke. Set up a flight outside of VR with PMDG's 777-200 FedEx. I figured a nice hop from KLAS tp KBOS would be a good start. After starting Flyinside I found if I used the large window view and left the status bar visible(Do not auto hide) you could switch back to flight sim desktop if you got kicked to regular desktop view by clicking on FSX. I found that by exploding the FMC with the mouse and then making it a little bit wider you suddenly got a different little hand mouse pointer that was much smaller than the regular mouse which is too big and not much use. The direct to button binding give you a blue dot to high lite a control and to use some of it's functions. The little FMC mouse pointer is perfect. Sitting IN the cockpit on RNW 25rt and getting ready TG was immersive as all get out, No need to switch views, just turn your head and look out at the ground sinking away from you is amazing. The first time you approach a cloud bank you feel like your actually in a cloud. Big difference in seeing a cloud and feeling like your IN a cloud! Landing in Boston was a pure definition of Immersion as I ever experienced, unbelievable, flew right by Deer Island where I ran a crane a few years back. It's far from perfect but I find myself going back to VR, monitors are so....flat! VR will be the future of flight sims, too bad some get vertigo or motion sickness. But then again, if it's real life like then it's real life like! Best BaldyB
  20. Has to do with certain control types! Denis Bolduc BaldyB
  21. Never had Saitek. Did own C&H yoke, pedals and quadrant. The quadrant died but the pedals and yoke have been going strong for about 15 years, I did have a brief problem with the yoke's shaft sticking a bit, a one time spray with Prestone Dry Silicon cured it for good. The Prestone stuff is very slippery but dry. I used it on a Lincoln Premier I had with leather bench seat and left the divider up, big mistake! Made a left and found myself in the passengers seat, barley able to recover. I will by another quadrant for PMDG's Queen. The C&H has 4 actual throttle levers! Best BaldyB
  22. Both Shared flightdeck and EFB are laudable, and very well regarded. But VR will blow your mind! If PMDG can make the queen play nice with VR programs like Flyinside etc., In a relatively short time you will know how it feels to be IN the cockpit, not looking at it in front of a screen. The 737 NGX is a bit better with VR than the 777, not as taxing! The next round of CPU's and more powerful video cards will make a big difference. What also will/should be in the works are yokes, flight sticks, and gloves with sensors. A Spanish company is developing gloves that can feel rain drops and be used to play an on screen piano, and the lady plays like a pro! Flyinside is still beta, but I believe the guy deserves support. I support software I have a high regard for, doesn't everyone? Of course that includes PMDG. Best. BaldyB Denis Bolduc
  23. I agree with vortex661. A clean FSX-SE install on a reformatted drive or one who's registry is clean of prior FSX installations is the most important aspect in my view. Side by side Boxed and FSX-SE registry entries do not seem to play nice in my experience. Win 10 and FSX-SE are flawless with me. Better FPS, smoother, better memory management, much less VAS usage. Best BaldyB
